The seven sentences of the Confucius help distinguish
where is the person, where is the person, and where is the word.
The Confucius, who was a very hospitable person,
agreed with his answer that
one year had three seasons,
which made him feel very happy
because he knew clearly that one year had four seasons.
Finally, after the other guest left,
the Confucius analyzed this disciple in a way of consolation.
So how did he analyze
that made everyone agree to this noble answer?
I would like to invite you to find out together.
The Confucius did not argue with the eunuch
The Confucius had a student who liked to argue right and wrong with others.
One day, when this student came to visit the Confucius,
he met a guest standing in front of the house gate.
He called the other student and asked,
I heard that your teacher is not a monk,
so your education must be very expensive.
You let me ask, how many seasons does a year have?
If you answer correctly, I will bow my head to you,
and if you answer wrong, you have to bow to me.
The other student's blood boiled and thought for a while before answering.
Spring, summer, autumn, winter have four seasons.
The other guest argued,
wrong, there are three seasons.
The other student felt that what the other guest said was strange,
so he objected to him.
Clearly, a year has four seasons,
why did he say that there are three seasons?
At the same time, the two people were arguing,
they could not tell the winner from the loser,
so the Confucius went to the door.
The guest hurriedly asked,
Please tell us,
how many seasons does a year have?
The Confucius looked at the guest and said,
three seasons.
The old guest turned to the other student,
Are you clear?
Don't you want me to make a mistake again?
He said, he stopped laughing and turned away.
The other student did not understand what the Confucius said,
so he asked again,
Master, a year clearly has four seasons,
why did you say that there are three seasons?
The Confucius answered,
Don't you see the other person?
It's like the case of a butterfly.
A year, a butterfly only lives for three seasons,
spring, summer, and autumn.
It doesn't know what winter is.
And arguing with it,
isn't it that it never comes to an end?
The young man mistakenly thought that arguing is not a problem,
but affirming that logic belongs to him.
In fact, logic does not belong to humans,
but is the religion of the universe.
The work of a gentleman is to focus on the bottom line of logic,
which is called wisdom.
The young man uses his stupidity to argue with others.
In any field,
the young man must show his expertise and show his understanding to everyone.
To deal with such conservative people,
the simplest and most correct solution is silence and forgiveness.
In the Tao of Virtue,
the Taoist says that
the Tao of the Bodhisattva is to do without fighting.
One of the three principles of the highest cultivation of Buddhism is silence.
Silence without fighting is the highest cultivation of human life.
The gentleman is always a model of the old society.
The gentleman and the beggar are two opposites,
like water with fire, one sky, one object.
No one wants to be a beggar to receive the criticism of life.
But how exactly is the distinction between the gentleman and the beggar?
Confucius has given seven ways to see clearly where the beggar is,
where the gentleman is.
1. The gentleman understands clearly is the meaning of the Tao,
the beggar understands clearly is the benefit.
Specifically, the meaning is the difference between the values of the gentleman and the beggar.
2. The gentleman clearly distinguishes right from wrong,
while the beggar calculates profit and harm.
3. The so-called meaning is the value of morality over material benefits,
such as the meaning of the Tao itself.
4. The gentleman uses the meaning as a basis,
he uses the meaning to compare what he does and what he does not do.
5. The beggar only values benefits,
uses benefits to assess and consider,
will give up the meaning of the Tao for benefits.
6. The beggar only thinks about what benefits he can assess.
7. A genuine gentleman is the one who pursues a noble spirit.
8. Confucius said,
listen to the Tao, even if you die,
practice the Tao, and you will be happy.
9. The gentleman pursues the Tao, not the English.
10. The gentleman pursues the Tao, not the truth.
11. Worry about the Tao, not worry about poverty.
12. Love the Tao, not love sickness.
13. The gentleman loves the people, but still has his own view.
The beggar follows others, but does not love the people.
14. The gentleman pursues the Tao,
he will share the benefits, based on power.
15. Everyone embraces the heart of the person waiting for him.
16. To achieve the four benefits,
all the people on the outside agree,
but turn their backs,
look at each other, attack each other,
despise each other,
therefore, agree, disagree.
17. The gentleman pursues the Tao,
greedy as the water.
18. The gentleman pursues the Tao, sweet as wine.
19. The gentleman does not pursue the community,
he will not ask others to be like him,
each person keeps his own characteristics.
20. When dealing with a friend,
the gentleman has an attitude of listening.
It is a kind of pure pursuit,
does not tolerate exploitation,
does not take advantage of any benefits,
so it seems very normal,
as pure as water.
In fact, it is a kind of connection of the soul.
21. The beggar is not like that,
because the beggar pursues the community,
pays attention to the external form,
is the result of the same behavior,
together,
not the harmony of the heart.
The emperor said,
the gentleman is generous,
but does not fight,
unites,
but does not break up.
That is to say, the gentleman is generous,
lives in harmony with everyone,
does not break up,
unites,
takes advantage of the individual.
And the beggar is the opposite of the gentleman.
22. The emperor calls those who do not have a moral principle,
is a hypocrite.
He has to judge that
hypocrisy is the root of morality.
He pointed out,
the beggar,
the gentleman,
will definitely be mocked by everyone.
23. The emperor said,
judging a person is not based on the hatred of the crowd,
but should be based on the standard of good and evil morality.
The gentleman,
with principles such as right and wrong,
will never compromise.
24. The gentleman is open-minded,
calm,
the beggar is always red-handed,
calculative.
25. The gentleman is open-minded,
not afraid of anything,
not afraid of harm,
always pure in heart,
like the cool spring breeze,
like the pure white moon.
26. The gentleman is always kind to others,
always kind to others,
therefore,
open-minded,
calm.
27. The beggar is always worried,
always feels that others are wrong with him,
or that something is not good for him.
Therefore,
the gentleman is busy calculating,
led by desires and interests,
often falls into a state of anxiety,
fear,
therefore,
always calculative,
calculative.
28. The gentleman asks for himself,
the beggar asks for others.
It means that
when there is a conflict,
the gentleman finds the cause in himself,
and the beggar finds the fault in others.
The gentleman says,
the gentleman has the virtue of the gentleman,
which means
that the gentleman must have the virtue of the gentleman.
Seeking the virtue of the gentleman,
not being tired,
can reach the limit of the gentleman.
29. The monk asks the gentleman,
how to reach the gentleman?
The gentleman answers,
if you can fight your own self-indulgence,
return to the heaven,
then people in the world
will praise you as a benevolent person.
Benevolence means
the virtue of the gentleman,
which the gentleman can never reach.
The gentleman
is always in high spirits
in the virtue of the monk,
and the gentleman is always far away
in self-indulgence.
According to the monk,
the gentleman can contemplate himself
but in his heart,
he is not arrogant.
If he makes a mistake,
he is not afraid to correct it.
The gentleman does not stop contemplating himself
through self-indulgence
to complete self-cultivation,
self-cultivation, self-cultivation.
If the gentleman makes a mistake,
he always wants to make a mistake for others,
or use the American word
to cover up the mistake,
not dare to face the flaw.
5. The gentleman achieves what is good,
but does not achieve what is bad for others.
The gentleman is the opposite.
The gentleman does good for others,
does not promote bad things for others,
while the gentleman is the opposite.
The gentleman puts himself in the position
of others to contemplate.
The things he does not want to do,
he does them for others.
Self-indulgence, self-cultivation, self-cultivation.
What he wants to achieve,
he achieves it for others.
What he wants to achieve,
he helps others to achieve it.
Self-cultivation, self-cultivation,
self-cultivation, self-cultivation.
Without self-talk,
the gentleman must start from the beginning.
The gentleman does not have a purpose,
but has to raise himself up to the heavens.
All the behaviors of the gentleman
are both ethical and exemplary for the people.
The gentleman is also an example
of a person who practices morality and self-restraint.
The gentleman only sees the benefits in front of his eyes,
likes to collaborate to seek personal benefits,
not from means to satisfy himself.
6. The virtue of the gentleman is like the wind,
the virtue of the gentleman is like the grass,
the wind blows, the grass crumbles.
The gentleman has the social responsibility
to educate the people,
to take the responsibility to help the people.
This spirit of self-cultivation
is also a way for him to say
that the world is his own responsibility.
Tang Shum also said,
the wise have a great ambition,
a strong will,
because their responsibility is great
and the road is very long.
When the gentleman travels around the country,
what kind of place does he want to go to?
Where do people live?
Some people say,
that place has bad customs and traditions,
how can he live there?
The gentleman said,
the gentleman lives there,
so why should he have bad customs and traditions?
7. The gentleman has three fears,
fear of the heaven, fear of the great man,
fear of the words of the great man.
The gentleman does not know the heaven,
so he is not afraid,
when he receives the great man,
he respects the words of the great man.
The mission that the gentleman and the disciples
have been striving for all their lives
is to inherit the tradition of the Tao,
inherit the ancient culture,
to uphold morality, to help the world.
He said,
this is the responsibility that God has given him
and the disciples,
so it must be done.
In the context of the society of the band of bad music,
although the Tao is in turmoil,
it is constantly in trouble,
but the gentleman is still determined.
The Book of Proverbs says,
the sky is still strong,
the gentleman is always self-reliant,
never doubt.
The place is humble,
the gentleman uses thick soil to carry things.
The gentleman is the embodiment of ideal personality.
The virtues in traditional culture
are given to the gentleman,
teaching people to be gentlemen,
not to be petty.
It makes people think about the value of dignity,
of humanity and morality,
always humble, seeking truth,
not to fall into the vicious circle of profit.
The gentleman is a model that people used to admire.
In history,
because there have been countless wise people,
the gentlemen have persisted in upholding the Tao and the Tao,
so that people have overcome many obstacles,
gone astray,
and continue to this day.
Some people say,
it is very difficult to be a gentleman in this modern era.
There is little green,
and there is a lot of greenery.
The gentleman does not have the soil to use.
In fact, the gentleman lives according to the Tao,
and the Tao is eternal,
it is the source of all things,
including the human society.
How can those who do not follow the Tao
exist forever?
And how can those who follow the Tao
no longer be lost?
No matter what society,
the gentleman always receives respect and love,
because they are the bright stars of society,
the ones who can determine the prosperity of the country.
