Let's see diode biasing
Biasing is applying a DC voltage across the diode and bringing it to the working condition
If we consider a diode, the current will not flow through it unless we apply an external voltage
Biasing is applying an external DC voltage across the diode and bringing it to the working condition
There are two types of biasing in a diode, forward bias and reverse bias
Let's see forward biasing
When external DC voltage is applied to the junction is in such a direction that it cancels the potential barrier thus permitting the current to flow
It is called forward biasing
When external DC voltage is applied to the junction is in such a direction that it cancels the potential barrier thus permitting the current to flow
It is called forward biasing
Let's see how to connect forward biasing
Let's see how to connect an external DC source to a diode
If we connect P region with positive pole and N region with negative pole, we can say that the diode is forward biased
When forward bias is applied, the positive poles in P region will move to N region
Similarly, the negative poles in N region will move to P region
As a result, the depletion width will decrease and the diode will start conducting when the bias voltage exceeds the potential barrier
This is called forward biasing
The current flowing through forward biasing is called forward current
A diode is connected in forward bias
Anode is connected in P region with positive terminal of battery and N region with negative terminal of battery
The depletion region is shaded between P and N regions
As the forward bias increases, the depletion width will decrease and the diode will start conducting when the bias voltage exceeds the potential barrier
The current flowing through forward bias is called forward current
In reverse biasing, the potential barrier is increased when the external DC voltage is applied to the junction
This is the specialty of reverse biasing
In forward biasing, the P region of the diode is connected with positive terminal of battery and N region with negative terminal of battery
In reverse biasing, the P region of the diode is connected with positive terminal of battery and N region with negative terminal of battery
In reverse biasing, there is a very low current conduction due to the effect of a minority carrier
In reverse biasing, the P region of the diode is connected with positive terminal of battery and N region with negative terminal of battery
Let's see the forward and reverse biasing of diode
In reverse biasing, the P region of the diode is connected with positive terminal of battery and N region with negative terminal of battery
Senor diode is a reverse biased heavily doped PN junction diode which operates in breakdown region
This is the field intensity of the diode
This electric field can break the covalent bonds in the diode and generate free electrons
This is the field intensity of the diode
Senor diode is used as a voltage regulator to protect the diode from external damage and excessive heating
This is the field intensity of the diode
Breaking of covalent bond is due to intense electric field across the depletion region. This greatest a large free electrons causes breakdown
Breaking of covalent bond is due to collision of accelerated charge carriers with adjacent atoms. This creates free electrons
Breaking of senor diode is due to negative temperature coefficient
Senor breakdown occurs in highly doped diode
Ideal diode is a diode which operates as a perfect conductor when forward biased and as a perfect insulator when reverse biased
Ideal diode is a semiconductor device which operates as a perfect intelligent switch when shut off and turned on based on voltage applied to its junction
