Don't waste your money on expensive headlight restoration kits. The answer is already in your home! A simple treatment with a household product does the trick.
Welcome back tightwads today. We're gonna look at why we're gonna talk about why your lights get hazy and
How to clean them with more of a temporary fix. This is not a long-term fix that lasts for a few months though
There are some more permanent fixes you can do
That involve sanding and clear coats of spray paint of clear spray paint
But I don't have time or want to go that route
So I'm just gonna clean these so what happens is these get small little pits form on that form on them
It gets bug guts you can see
Got some bug splatter, but it gets little tiny pits in it, and that's what makes it look dull like that
It's not on the inside of the lens like a lot of people think it's actually on the outside
So the new sheen of the factory is worn off
And it pits a lot easier
Bugs when you get this kind of bug stuff on here and don't wash it like I didn't wash my truck in a while
It'll cause some streaks and some scratches, and that's what causes the haziness
So we're gonna look at an easy way to get rid of some of that today
All right first step in the process is to
wet the headlight
Next step is to get your chemical that you're going to clean it with I have a simple kitchen rag here
And I recently went to the dentist and he gave me some new toothpaste. That's right
Toothpaste the only difference in the toothpaste that you can use and can't use is
That one is a paste and one is a gel you definitely want to use the paste
So I squirt a little bit on my rag on my wet rag, and I rub it in circles on the headlight
You'll quickly
Start to know start to notice
That the bug guts come off they were stuck on there
smells minty fresh
Now if you have some deep pits
Where rocks have hit your lights, it's not going to take that off
Just keep rubbing in circles. You can see how dirty it already is coming off
It gets too dry
Add some more water
Make sure you get a good rub down everywhere
I'm gonna do another coat on here
You can buy the kits from AutoZone
Advanced auto other auto parts stores you can even buy them at Walmart you can order them online
For about anywhere from $15 to I've seen them up to $50 for name-brand kits
but
They all do the same thing they clean the light and they have a mild abrasive in them
Some with a little bit more abrasive with a multi-step process
But they're all just taking down the top coat of the plastic on the lens
Again this is temporary. It does not restore them to brand-new forever
But you can already see
That my lights are now clear
five minutes
tops
Less than five if five if you include the time to go get all your parts and the free
Sample toothpaste from the dentist and my lights look nice and clean
