Watch I have magical powers
Hello bloggineers. We're at the Cypress College Theater
And we're gonna give you a behind-the-scenes look at Carrie the musical adapted from Stephen King's
1974 horror novel this musical focuses on an awkward teenage girl with telekinesis power
Right now they're doing a run-through of act two. It looks like they're doing PE
They're gonna do one more rehearsal and then we're gonna go backstage to look at some props
We didn't get on camera, but we just saw the chair move by itself
It's because in this show Carrie has telekinesis powers. So hopefully we get to see it again and film it
Tommy Ross and Carrie Wai
They just rehearsed the prom scene which is where everyone tricks Carrie into becoming prom queen so that they could pour pigs blood onto
Her and in the actual show there probably will be red liquid or something
but right now they're just rehearsing so they just fake poured it and then Carrie gets mad and
Basically forces everyone onto the ground with her telekinesis power
We're going on a backstage tour
Backstage tour
These are our bleachers
Where we have very fun things going on
We have dancing and we have singing
And we have
What else do we do on these bleachers?
We have class on the bleachers
People can doodle on the bleachers
It's a good time
This is our lovely set
So when you pour the blood is that like it's good just gonna be red liquid
It's supposed to be like red liquid in a bucket and they're gonna pull a string and it's all gonna fall down and it's gonna be awesome
It's gonna be I believe a mix of corn syrup, coloring, and cocoa powder
So it's edible too
Is it not gonna ruin whatever you're wearing?
That's actually been like a topic of discussion
I think that adding detergent actually makes it washable and they've also I think been coordinating with the outfits
So like like darker colors so things don't stain as easily
Yeah they've been like doing different tests of like mixes of the blood to see what wouldn't stain
Yeah that's been really cool
Yes and someone's gonna be on wash duty every night
These are the insides of the set
So down this way we have the prom stage
It's nothing too fancy yet
The little stage that they pull out for when Carrie
This is what Carrie's gonna be on when she gets blood like thrown all over her so that'll be cool
Hopefully it doesn't stain it
Carrie's gonna be a live band
When we came here for Beauty and the Beast they were just playing the soundtrack
So I guess this is better and they don't have an orchestra pit but they can do it backstage
It still works
We're going up
A lot of Sue's interrogation stuff happens up here
And some dancing happens up here too
These lights are gonna
We're working on having them be lowered so that we can be electrocuted
Oh
That's cool
We're on the upstairs balcony where they do a number of scenes including some dances
And this is also where the blood is poured down
Margaret which is Carrie's mom is going to be
It's gonna show that she's being like levitated in the show and this is how they're going to do that
And every time we're ever conceptualizing how the sets can look for a show
Our set designers will go ahead and do a mock-up
And from this they'll go ahead and figure out all the pieces they need to do
The exact measurements of all the lumber they need to cut out
And they make all the stuff that you see there on stage
We're gonna go see the costumes for this show
I remember this room
So this is the dressing room
Costumes here
This is the men's side
And yeah we have couple Carries
So the movie Carrie was set in the 70s
And these costumes that they use are from the 2012 to 2015 era
Here is one of Carrie's dresses
They're still testing to see if the blood can wash off
Because if not then they might just have to keep getting new dresses
But hopefully they can find a way to reuse it
There's a lot of cool props in here
A lot of the clothing items that we use are reused for lots of different shows
So some of these props may have been used in shows like five years ago
Probably even longer than that
Watch I have magical powers
That was so good!
And that is behind the scenes at Carrie the musical
I really like how they showed us some of the magic behind the scenes
And how everything worked
What's cool about this is there's a lot of tricks involved in the play
That they need to figure out
Like the flying book
And also we saw the device that's going to lift up the mother later
Which I'm excited to see in the actual musical
Be sure to check this out at Cypress College
On Friday to Sunday of the first two weekends of October
See you in the next video, bye!
