But what a fun one this ended up being on CBS number one, Georgia taking on Vanderbilt on the road
The dogs looking for their school record 24th straight scary stuff in the second quarter though, Georgia up 14 7
Brock Bowers is gonna get the short pass before being taken down out of bounds
He ended up having to leave the game after he checked into that medical tent and did not return
Luckily for the dogs, it seems to be optimistic from Kirby smart and his team got it done with him in the locker room
There's Beck finding Dominic. Love it for the touchdown. Georgia was up 24 7 at the half
They wrapped things up 37 to 20 as you take a look at your box score there
Let's get out to a guy who covered all of the action in this one though as we get things underway with a man who?
Was in the booth. Mr. Ross Ross. This one didn't go as we necessarily
Anticipated but the dogs still stay on top. What did you see in this one?
Well, I saw the Vanderbilt was right there
I mean by far their best performance of the season for the Commodores
Hanging with a really good Georgia team
Obviously the number one team in the country all of the streaks that you referenced
But Vanderbilt was really just a play or two away from being in this thing until the very end
Ultimately Georgia just has better personnel Georgia made the plays they had to make to win the game
But credit Vanderbilt for making it a game when it comes to Brock Bowers
We saw him go to the locker room Kirby smart gave us a little bit of an update
But what did you hear about Brock Bowers in that injury?
Well, what I didn't like about it is that every time we saw him he was still limping and and they're calling it an ankle
Injury, sometimes you can kind of walk those things off
But you know
He kept struggling with it as we saw him limping around and limping into the locker room
The good news for Georgia is that they do have a bye week coming up
But after that they play Florida on CBS, that's obviously a huge game. They're gonna need Brock Bowers for that game
So we're gonna have to keep updated on that over the next couple weeks
He's as good of an offensive weapon as there is in college football
Definitely is there's a reason why people are talking about him for the Heisman trophy Ross last one before I let you go here
You mentioned the bye week for Georgia and then they get a little bit of a SEC slate after the or excuse me after that
Bye week, but with this Georgia team very similar to Alabama. They haven't quite hit their stride just yet
I mean, what is you what do you anticipate for the dogs going forward as they get to that back half of the schedule?
Well, I think that's a good point because last Saturday night against Kentucky they were utterly dominant, right?
I mean, they look like the team that won back-to-back national championships. They weren't able to pick up where they left off last week, though
They didn't carry over that momentum
Today was more like some of the other games they've had against Auburn against South Carolina where they didn't play their best if they keep
Playing games like this eventually, they're gonna lose one of them
All right. Well there you had it. He had a bird's-eye view for that one, but the dogs still staying on top Ross
Thanks so much for your time and for your analysis. Now, of course, he mentioned that Georgia Bulldogs schedule
So this is what we're looking at. If you look at the right side of that schedule, they get the bye week
So some time for Brock Bowers to reset and then they go into the back half of that SEC schedule, Florida, Missouri
Ole Miss before wrapping up at Tennessee
First of our doubleheader on CBS number one, Georgia taking on Vanderbilt the dogs looking for their 24th
Straight win a school record there and they've won five straight against Vanderbilt
But in this one at least it started a little bit different Ken seals dropping back fires down to London Humphreys who would take it
49 yards and give his team the 7-0 lead their first points against Georgia in 12 quarters and their first lead in Nashville
since
2013 but the dogs would get right back in it early second Kendall Milton taking the handoff. That's good for seven more
So Georgia takes a 14-7 lead
But later in the quarter things got a little scary for tight end Brock Bowers who is taken down out of bounds
Later being ruled as an ankle injury
Kirby smart feels optimistic about it, but Bowers did leave the game to the locker room again being called a
left ankle injury
We'll pick this one though back in the end of the second half Carson Beck finds Dominic
Love it to Georgia going into the halftime break with a 24-7
24-7 lead then we skip ahead to the fourth quarter Georgia holding a 16-point lead trying to put this one to bed Beck
Not quite where he wanted to go with that one. CJ Taylor runs it down the sideline finally knocked out at the one-yard line
But good field position there for Vanderbilt
Georgia those scored on six straight possessions before throwing the interception there and then Vanderbilt taking care of business Cedric Alexander
Taking that one into the end zone
They'd make it a one possession game before Ken Seals in rolls, right?
This pass was tipped by Kamari Lassiter
So Vanderbilt trailing 30 to 20 late in this one still time to stay alive
But on the ensuing Georgia drive Dajan Edwards gets the handoff and never looks back
Finally pushed out at the six-yard line and the dogs would take control
20 or to be 37 to 20 lead for Georgia and their 24th straight win
That's the longest streak in SEC history as the dogs take down Vanderbilt once again
It's a 37 20 finish in Nashville for the top-ranked dogs
It's the stick straight victory for Vanderbilt or against Vanderbilt for Georgia
They had quite the game in this one Vanderbilt was 2 and 31 though in the last 33 games against SEC
So Georgia will get the bye before hosting, Florida on October 20th Vanderbilt also gets a bye. They'll head to Ole Miss
Let's hear from Kirby smart with Tiffany Blackman
We're tested today by this Bandy team
But what did your team show you in the way they were able to respond to the early adversity?
Well, we continue to be having a little bit up and downs
But I thought we responded well
Came out and really won the middle what we call middle eight minutes of the game the last four and then the first four offense
Put together a great drive. We just got score touchdowns coach losing Brock Bowers in this one
I know how much he means to this team, but how proud are you or the way this group was able to emotionally regroup?
Oh, they're great. We had a couple guys go down. They stood up rose up. It's been a long seven weeks
So we got a well-needed much-needed
Off week coming some lengthy drives for this offense
How is Carson back able to sustain those through his decision-making good execution? We got to hit some explosives
Can't have 1718 play drives. You got to hit some explosives. Thanks coach. Congratulations. Thank you. Go dogs
Go dogs as I mentioned Georgia still unbeaten in the longest winning streak in SEC history
As you look at that list Georgia now with 24
Straight wins as I mentioned it earlier six straight win against Vanderbilt their 34th straight regular season win
That's a school record
All the dogs do is win lately and for more on this game to break it down even further
We hand things off to Emily proud and our crew at 24-7 sports in Nashville
Thank You Haley before we get to the actual game
Of course the biggest story line going down in the second quarter when Brock Bauer's out with that ankle sprain according to Kirby smart
Carl reacting to this news just looking forward to the rest of this season
I mean, we don't know how long he's gonna be out. But if he does miss some time, how does that affect this Georgia offense?
Well, he's their best football player. So it definitely affects it, but they do have depth behind them
I think it's most important that you get them back
For the SEC championship in the playoffs when you're gonna be going against some of the top teams in the country
I do think that if he had to take some time the rest that they could get by without him in the interim
I think the bye week comes at a great time
I think Kirby smart said that not just for Brock Bowers, but this seems like the last seven weeks
He just mentioned right we got to get to a bye. We got to get healthy and you got, Florida
You got Missouri got Ole Miss. You got Tennessee. You got some teams that can put up some points
They need their best player back in their offense and that's Carson Beck's kind of safety blanket
But if there is a team equipped to deal with the vacancy of a guy like Brock Bowers, it's that Georgia tight end room
I kind of mentioned Oscar Delp being one of those guys Pierce Berlin lost and lucky
They got some guys that can play some ball. They just haven't had the opportunity yet
So I think they're gonna be okay as they hit the bye week a good time for us to sort of evaluate
What we thought we would see from the Bulldogs at this point in the season 7-0 really no surprise
I think that was the expectation but
Coop from what you've seen from this Bulldogs team is this about what you expected as they go towards that three-peat
It's hard to do what they're trying to do, right?
We mentioned that they are only the second team that is trying to accomplish this and that happened a long time ago with the Minnesota
Team right so doing what they're trying to do is really really difficult and they have a target on their back every week the thing
About Georgia, and I think you go back to that, Kentucky game
It's about getting better
Weekend and week out and you got a first-time starter in Carson Beck who just seems to get more and more comfortable
Weekend and week out and we'll see what happens with Brock Bowers
But that is a good development everything that's happening with Carson Beck turn the ball over today
Obviously would like to have that back. Like I said, I think the bye week getting healthy going into a rivalry game against, Florida
I don't think that can come at a better time
So George is one of those teams are gonna play up to their competition
And if they play down and win by 17 against Vandy, that's okay, too
Winning is hard winning back-to-back
Championships in itself what Georgia done was extremely difficult winning the third one becomes tough because you have to overcome
The staff changes changing offensive coordinators
You have to overcome the quarterback changes huge losses on the defense
But they're still finding a way to win and they have championship pedigree
So they are trying to do something that is extremely difficult
But every single week they find a way to win and you have to find a way to win in every type of
Situation and they have been able to do that
Consistently you mentioned the turnover on defense
It seems like the last couple of years the NFL draft has been
Sponsored by the Georgia Bulldogs defense clearly a lot of turnover on that side of the ball
You don't want to make too much of the fact that Vanderbilt was able to score 20 points and you know Haley mentioning earlier
That it was the first time that Vanderbilt has scored on Georgia in the last two meetings
And so it's been a while. This is a new look Georgia defense, but overall just based on where they are week seven coop
What is your evaluation of that side of the ball?
I like where they are
You know Glenn Schumann one of the highest paid defensive coordinators in the game for good reason
You know a lot of people are after this too
But you know Kirby smart is one of the best coaches like yeah
I can't believe that needs to be said right but so many people want to talk about Nick Saban from a psychological
Standpoint and willing his team to victory you talk to some people around Georgia about the way they feel about Kirby smart
They think their biggest advantage is their head coach his ability to adapt week in week out get his team ready to play
Mentally physically and I think that is their advantage
That's kind of their wild card and if I'm Georgia the thing is you look out there right now
There's no elite team right and you know that you have enough talent to go out there and make a run for a third consecutive
National championship there is no better coach to lead that team the Kirby smart Kirby smart special
We know it not only has he been special at Georgia
We can go back to the national championships at Alabama where he was a key
Cog as the defensive coordinator doing those runs as well. He's won everywhere. He's went everything
He's touched his turn to go the Georgia program is set up to win. They have recruited at elite level
They have high level coaching you Cooper talked about Glenn Schumann the defensive coordinator on the defensive side of the ball guys
Like Will Muschamp on staff Trey Scott the defensive line coach
They are doing an unbelievable job and people want style points, but championship coaches like Kirby smart
They just want to win on the scoreboard whole conversation very reminiscent of what we'd say about Nick Saban and Alabama for years and years
Although you have the turnover at all positions and at the coaching position as well
You just figure it out and good coaches do that. Thank you both for the great conversation
