In 24 hours, we'll start attempting the hardest thing we've ever done.
Welcome to my packing room for Mount Kilimanjaro.
This morning was the hardest day
that we've ever done.
So in typical fashion, Tracy is almost packed,
like doing pretty good.
And David is not.
You may think that that was him putting his stuff there,
but no, that was actually his wife.
He has no clue what he has packed yet.
So instead of annoying you guys and showing you every single item
that we're packing, well, here's our packing list.
So you can stop the video and have a look at it.
And what we're going to do, too, is like at the end of this series,
we're going to do kind of tell you, like, did we overpack?
Is there something we forgot?
Everything like that, because I know I have a lot of snacks.
I feel like I'm not going to need them all, but I can't leave them.
Yeah. So make sure to subscribe to check that out.
And I'm trying to see if I should wear.
I think he looks good in a ball cap.
I never, ever wear a hat, but I'm not going to do my hair.
So we're all packed up.
We're just waiting for transport.
We have a lot of stuff, but we're actually four.
It's not just like all for us.
We have two friends that came straight from Canada
just to climb Kilimanjaro, Simon and Angel.
Maybe you'll see them a little later.
They're a little camera shy in the background.
They're cool hat, by the way, Sam.
But yeah, we're just waiting for transport heading to the airport
and stress level, Tracy.
It's climbing.
I'm like a five out of ten.
To our left, we have found a big Chinese abattoir.
So right now, we can see Kilimanjaro at the distance
and we're literally lower than what we're going to be hiking.
Thank you very much.
Welcome to Tanzania at Kilimanjaro International Airport.
Yeah, it was just a 55 minute flight from Nairobi.
Yeah, a little bumpy, but nothing we can't manage.
It's so hot right now than like in and around the mountains.
It happens. Yeah. Oh, good.
Hey, nice to meet you.
Nice to meet you. My name is Simon.
Our driver's name is Simon.
So my friend Simon and the driver Simon already have a unique bond forever.
Time to go see what our hotel looks like.
Thank you very much.
Perfect.
So we just arrived at our hotel Summit Lodge.
Yes. So basically, you guys know we're climbing Kili
and we're actually climbing with a company called Climb Kili.
The concept is good.
That's a great name.
So our itinerary right now is we just arrived and we spend the night here,
but we need to go down and get our debrief as well.
So we should probably go do that.
And then we need to kind of reorganize our bags
because you can actually leave a small luggage here.
But you don't want to go up a mountain. Exactly.
So we're going to go get our brief.
And by the way, like this hotel is like included in the package with Climb Kili.
So anyway, we'll put their information down below as usual.
So ready for your brief?
Nervousness level?
Right now, not bad.
But ask me tonight when I try and sleep.
I'll ask you again tomorrow morning when it's a go.
Yes. As per usual, I need to give you a very quick room tour.
We have a double bed here.
We have a massive countertop storage area.
You're forgetting something very important.
Oh, yeah. There's an AC. Haven't tried to turn it on yet, though.
Whoa. Massive wardrobe.
And we already kind of like sat on the bed and like it feels pretty comfy.
And then everything you need in the bathroom.
Hot water. Toilet.
That's it.
You guys ready for the brief?
Oh, my God.
Straight up the gate.
No matter the answer, just say no.
Got my sleeping bag.
Now to rearrange and see if we can fit everything in with the weight.
OK, so we're allowed 15 kg per person
for our bag, which includes the sleeping bag.
So we're a little bit heavy.
So we're going to like repack.
We're going to also try different layers.
We just had a brief first summit day and everything.
So to make sure that we're not going to freeze to death.
So let's do that. OK.
Testing our outfits.
It's so hot.
So this is the moment of truth.
Going to go wear bags.
We're all repacked and see if we're good or not.
We're good. Tracy's 14 kg.
I'm 11 kg.
So we're up here for supper on a rooftop patio.
And it's actually really nice.
That is the only thing that is not included with the package
with Climb Kili, though.
So just something to keep in mind.
But we're going to eat some supper, go to bed early,
hopefully sleep and then early morning tomorrow.
OK, sleep well.
Get some strength overnight.
So now I think we're just going to relax.
Take it easy.
This is like kind of our last good night of sleep.
Though we're not going to sleep good,
but probably not as good as in a bed with AC.
Yeah, I'm not going to lie.
I stress level has skyrocketed for me.
She's pretty stressed out.
Like we went through the briefing and everything was fine.
I think it's just like there's a lot of people coming back
from the climb and kind of talking about their experience.
And it was all like they all made it to the top.
Yeah, but it was just more real.
Yeah. And now I'm like, OK, I need to chill.
So we're going to try and distract my mind a little bit.
So anyway, we're going to chillax.
We're going to see you guys back in the morning for breakfast.
Final preparation.
We've got like almost like two and a half hour ride,
a bus ride to to the national park as well.
It's quite a bit going on in the morning.
Yeah. Yeah. OK, see you then.
Time for the last shower of the week.
First sunrise over Tanzania, and it's beautiful.
The team is doing fine.
The girls are a little bit stressed.
You know, understandable.
It's going to be a big challenge.
But yeah, I think it's going to be quite an adventure.
OK, so the girls are logging all our valuables.
We're actually able to leave a full bag of stuff here at the hotel
because this is where we're going to come back after the trip.
And the valuables are going with client Kelly at their office in a safe.
So all the passport money and all that stuff you don't have to bring with you.
So on top of that bus right now, they're packing all the tents
and equipment that we're going to need, including the food for the next seven days.
How do you feel? It's getting real.
I'm still stressed.
They're going to be just fine.
I just need to get going.
Yeah, I'm not used to seeing myself with a baseball cap.
I'm not sure about it.
I think it looks good.
I don't know.
So I'm going to see the guys.
Everything is packed up.
We're ready to go.
It's happening.
Got to take our day one warrior picture first.
So we are on the bus.
We are headed to the park right now.
It's about a two and a half hour drive.
And then from there, we're going to meet up with some of our team.
But all of our team will kind of meet more on day two and three
because it's higher, obviously, and needing more things.
So, yeah, that's pretty much it.
The nerves are subsiding a little bit.
We took our picture, our before picture.
And we're just going to we're going to give it our best.
We're going to see how it goes.
So we just did a little pit stop, a little pee pee break.
There's a convenience store.
So if you don't have enough snacks, you can get some.
But we have a lot of snacks.
Yes. And then now I need to start drinking more water
because I was kind of scared to at the beginning of it
because of the altitude meter making me pee a lot.
But now that we've stopped, I'm good.
Got an hour to go. Let's go. Let's do it.
Simon is trying to bargain for a nice Kilimanjaro hat.
Back on the bus.
We made it.
And once again, I just signed my life away.
Tracy, now that you have a map, do you feel confident being our guide?
Absolutely not.
OK, so we should still go with them.
Yeah. So because there's a lot of people who have to like check in
and weigh all the weights for the porters and stuff,
we're going to have lunch here.
So our first meal here at the bottom of the mountain, which is really fantastic.
We have chapati. We have chips.
Why is it chips? I never said chips.
We have fries. I know. I was like, what is happening?
We have a salad, some fritters, some fruits, veggie.
Got to fuel up because the hike is going to start soon.
It's going to be a long hike today.
So this is it, guys.
We are about to start, but that's going to be in the next video
because this was just to bring you guys with us like from Nairobi to Tanzania.
I see all the preparation and what happens like the day before
and the morning of the climb that you start.
Well, yeah. See you guys.
Let's start climbing in the next one.
