Hi everyone and welcome to today's video session. My name is Thomas and I'm one of the IELTS
teachers here at Lango Learning System. These online video sessions are designed to help
you improve a certain facet of one of the four key competencies for your IELTS exam.
In this case, speaking. As we've already highlighted, the questions in part 1 are not as complicated
as the two following ones. So if you finish part 1, it'll make you feel less nervous and
more ready to tackle parts 2 and 3. Let's have a look at some part 1 examples focused
on our hometown. Part 1. Number 1. Describe your hometown. Actually, where I was born
and raised is neither a metropolis nor a place packed with people. It's a small city with
a variety of traditional customs and cultures. Luckily, residents don't suffer from pollution
as in other big cities. Despite the increasing amount of infrastructure being built, is it
easy to travel around your hometown? Yes, it is. Traffic congestion does not frequently
occur so you can enjoy getting around the city using a wide range of public transportation
methods such as buses or sea clothes. What is it known for? It's renowned as a peaceful
city surrounded by many splendid mountains. What do people in your town do? Agriculture
is the main manufacturing sector in my hometown. In the past, all stages were performed manually.
However, with the innovation of machines and technology, everything is becoming much easier
for farmers. In part 2, you will be asked more details about your hometown like its
geographical position and its main features in terms of culture and transportation, places
of interest and other things like that. The examiner will assess your language ability
and fluency in this part so you have to stick to the bullet points on the card to develop
your ideas properly. Here are some part 2 questions. Describe your hometown. You should
describe the place. What are the special features here? How does it compare to other cities
in the world? My hometown is located on the Red River Delta of Northeastern Vietnam. Although
it's not a super city, it has a long-standing culture of agriculture and a variety of tourist
attractions. Recently, my province has witnessed vast changes in the economy with the emergence
of factories and modern infrastructure. However, the directors of the province prioritise the
development of the economic sector while trying to preserve the more traditional features. Hence,
if you go there, you will see a combination of the modern and the ancient. Regarding
transportation, it takes me about two and a half hours to get from my province to the capital city.
Almost all of the roads have been resurfaced and are part of the national highway so it's now much
faster and more convenient than it used to be. My city also has numerous places of interest. You
can pay a visit to the ancient pagoda in the north with breathtaking mountains surrounding it. My
hometown is not as well developed as some other cities in the world but I find it very peaceful
to go back whenever I feel tired from working too much. On top of that, the comfortable weather is a
feature that attracts many tourists who go there for a holiday. Now we will move on to part three,
looking at some relating questions to gauge your ability to develop an idea and to discuss a topic
more broadly. You're not required to give an answer as long as for part two but you should
still try to fully respond to the question. Now I've got two sample questions and answers for you.
Part three, in what ways can you contribute to your hometown? My hometown does not spend much
money on developing a place for young people to go. Now it's more vibrant with coffee stores and
some shopping malls in the center of the city. Hence, I would like to build more infrastructure
for youngsters. Two, most people in the world do not live in their hometowns. Why? Well, I suppose one of the
reasons is that there is increasingly little employment for a growing population. Hence,
people have to go to sprawling cities to find a well-paid job. Besides, they want to get out
of their hometown which can be a comfort zone. People may also find themselves so distracted by
family problems that they can't focus on their own long-term goals. I hope that you found this
session helpful in preparing you for your IELTS test. If you want to sign up for IELTS courses
