These Noodles DESTROYED Me! Trying the "ORIGINAL" Juicy Lucy & Traditional Hmong Food in Minnesota

Hey guys, Mike Chang here in the Twin Cities And I'm going to a place now that I've been wanting to go for maybe close to a decade I first saw this on man versus food on the travel channel the Juicy Lucy If you don't know what a Juicy Lucy is it's basically two patties Hugging each other with a hunk of melty cheese in the middle over the years. I've tried imitations I've tried to recreate it on my own barbecue and now I finally get to try the original This is so exciting for the sit right in front of the grill smelling the burgers cook here it is Look at this mammoth patty Boiling hot gooey cheese on the inside pickles and onions on the bottom. This is a thing of beauty Here we go I have two regrets one is I didn't come here earlier And two is that I only got two of these look at the gooey Gooey cheese inside this giant burger patty I love the gorgeous charred flavor from the onions and the pickles just cut through the richness of the cheese This is the gooey-ish Cheesiest of all burgers. This is pretty much 10 years in the making and this is everything i've dreamed up and more Such a glorious burger meaty extremely cheesy again the grilled onions it's chopped up while it's cooking on the grill. So It gets so much of that beautiful smoky charred flavor I could do that all day long. Nothing overly fancy about this It's just so hearty and good Lunch number two, so minneapolis st. Paul has a huge mung population never really tried mung food before that's why i'm here at mung village So if you don't know the mung are ethnic group from the mountainous regions of china laos vietnam cambodia So a lot of their food is influenced by those countries So that's why here you'll see a lot of their versions of thai dishes vietnamese dishes chinese dishes. Let's get a bunch So got several things first is a very traditional mung dish mung sausage with sticky rice It looks like some chili sauce on the side as well It's actually purple sticky rice and as soon as you open this box, you smell that wonderful aroma from the rice right away Texture sticky a little mochi-ish so fragrant the sausage dunk into the chili sauce Taste it with some sticky rice the sausage Watch this whole combo It's just brilliantly delicious sausage. It's savory. It's got a subtle snappy texture On the outside casing. It's tender. It's succulent. It's juicy. It's just packed full of savory porky flavor And as you chew more and more aroma Comes out of the pork you taste some garlic I think maybe a little lemongrass and then you chase it with the rice which cuts through the richness and fat But adds to the fragrant flavor of that bite So good. Also, I got this this is called like a what they I think what they call a three color drink With coconuts and jelly And I think taro inside as well this i'm so excited about So This is a papaya salad And I had to go to this stall around the corner. That's kind of hidden and there's a lady. She really just focuses On papaya salad and this papaya salad. It's pretty interesting because of course there's papaya here tomatoes There's also a ton of seafood like fish cakes shrimp. There's calamari in here What's really cool is that she let me taste the papaya salad before she finalized to make sure the flavor is okay The flavor is extraordinary Wow, fresh crispy papaya Crunchy peanuts. There's green beans. There's tomatoes. She has her own unique sauces that she added here Let me tell you This is mind-blowingly good and compared to like a papaya salad. I had in I had in thailand There's a kind of a soupy element to it too. So there's a lot of the soup in here That's made with I think some fish sauce and I don't know what else secret concoction should put in here Make sure you kind of eat this like half papaya salad half soup Mind-blowingly good. Oh, there's little cuts up bits of hot dogs in here as well This thing is just unbelievably Spicy and citrusy. It's fresh. It engages the taste buds so well. The seafood Is very tender especially that squid little pop and sweetness from the tomatoes I didn't catch the name of the person who introduced this to me But thank you so much my friend. This Is a heck of a recommend and that papaya salad Actually goes really really well with the mung sausage That's a heck of a combo. This is another traditional mung dish. This is kapu It's a spicy noodle dish that's very popular in the lao and mung communities It's made with thin vermicelli noodles and this one in particular. It's just vegetables such a elegant Simplistic looking dish some herbs on top as well. Oh, my mouth is still burning from the papaya salad Simple elegant there's so much flavor in here vermicelli noodles wonderfully chewy The broth they use in here it's savory it's deep pretty much umami filled goodness And there is a ton of chilies in here. Oh, I thought that papaya salad was spicy And this kind of tricks you because it's chilled noodles. So you don't feel the heat Until it's right in your throat. Ah It's so good. But this is a punishing bowl of noodles definitely feel the common denominator and a lot of mung food It's the chilies and it doesn't stop I found this place that sold roasted meats look at this pork rib That is a lot of chilies on top of this pork rib. Oh my gosh Look at that. That's juicy looking too. This drink is becoming a lifesaver right now That's so good. Wow Oh, I love this super juicy pork rib Very delicate and tender the rib itself seasoned beautifully and then yeah that chili just hitting me now It's a punishing amount of chilies on this which actually works really well in cutting into the richness of the pork I love this. I really should have prepared myself by getting like five of these Also, I got a little chopped up beef rib. Look at this Nice amount of fat on the beef rib. Oh, this looks beautiful Savory fatty beef rib very rich as well chase that with some of these ultra spicy noodles The food I got today it really goes so well with each other This is such a great place too, I mean there's shops selling everything from clothes to souvenirs There's a grocery store and then this food court a bunch of stalls. I think I tried about four of them not a single bad bite, I mean a lot of spicy bites, but Not a single bad bite and this is just a little sample of what they have to offer There's also bolt noodles. There's chinese food. There's pho personally I think I made some good food choices today, especially with that papaya salad The sausage is amazing the spicy pork ribs. You gotta try that and make sure to get yourself a bowl of noodles And don't don't forget This will save your life Dinner is at pizzeria. Lola. This place has really interesting korean style pizzas You got two the first is called lady zaza. So on this there's pork belly kimchi gochujang Scallions sesame and italian red sauce. It's a zesty smelling pizza This is really really good beautiful bubbly airy crust light and crusty little bits of char Kimchi delightfully crunchy and spicy sauce has a hint of sweetness. It's zesty. It's spicy Pork belly is really toasty, too I love the bubbly crust of the pizza very thin the toppings are nice and balanced This is a really nice pork belly kimchi pizza So check this out, this is the korean barbecue pizza short ribs arugula Sesame with soy chili vinaigrette. Oh my gosh. This looks awesome Look at all the arugula on this thing This is so freaking awesome, it's pretty much A contrast to the kimchi pork belly pizza. Whereas the other one is more zesty spicy. This one is much more savory and cheesy You definitely taste the nuttiness But the mozzarella really nice crunch And a hint of bitterness from the arugula the sesame seeds add some additional fragrance short rib is Delightfully tender and every bite you get a burst of juice Also, there's a substantial Umami flavor from this pizza absolutely phenomenal for the ultimate in flavor and balance take a bite of the pork belly and kimchi And then take a bite of the korean barbecue that actually works really well And that's it for my short trip here in minnesota I mainly came here for the fair and the juicy lucy both exceeded my expectations and it's always nice to come back to minnesota Like I said, I used to live in austin home of spam the food not the mail I remember back then I pretty much just came from china. So My parents and I moved here. They were working for a restaurant and then every night after work We would go fishing in the local lakes.
