Last season's closest challengers to eventual champions Paris Saint-Germain met in the final
game of the weekend, but with hosts Lance in 10th going into the match,
9-9 has placed Marseille on goal difference. Very different to how they finished last season.
Whilst Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is yet to find his scoring boots since his summer arrival from
Chelsea, he retained the support of Gennaro Gattuso as OM looked to close back in on the
European spots after just one win in their previous five. Both clubs were though showing
signs of turning their seasons around after worrying starts.
And that's headed down the tunnel on level terms.
Marseille finally got going after the restart, but a corner only led to a half chance at the
third attempt. And there was a shot on target for Isamba, somewhat untroubled as he claimed
Samuel Gigo's header. Corner at the other end came far closer to finding the back of the net.
All the way through to Wesley Said, unmarked at the back.
His deflected shot cleared off the line by Jordan Veretout.
Goal line technology making clear it had not crossed the line.
There would be one more chance for the hosts. Another corner in the 90th minute and this time
they would not be denied as Jonathan Grady stooped low to divert home. Swamped by his teammates,
understandably so. A huge moment as Lens continue to turn their season around,
getting ahead of his marker and finding the gap in the sea of blue shirts.
There would also be one more chance for the visitors. Space on the left, a good ball in,
but Aubameyang flapping his lines at the crucial moment. Still can't make it happen.
In the French top flight, result 1-0, which sees Lens continue their climb up the table.
Now up to sixth, it means they've only lost one of their last 14 home fixtures.
Whilst Marseille have won just one league game under Gattuso,
going to score for the fifth time in seven league outings and slip into the bottom half.
