Followings for man and nature
Wind power. An ecological and economic disaster.
A guest comment by Dagmar Jastrozemski from November 21, 2023.
With the supposedly climate-saving giant plants,
severe havoc with inevitable consequences for man and nature is rampant.
Nevertheless, the public is largely silent about it.
On the night of October 14-15,
an 80-meter-long wing fell off a wind turbine
in the Windpark Alfstedt-Ebersdorf in the Rothenburg-Wümme district of Lower Saxony.
Subsequently, the district shut down all eight wind power plants,
i.e. the energy office in Bremen.
The plants of a total height of 250 meters
were only put into operation in May and June 2022.
Already in September of last year,
a rotor wing of another wind turbine was bent in the same wind park
and shortly thereafter broken off.
Sharp-edged debris pieces and fine debris
on the surrounding meadows and hedges
were scattered and scattered for months,
distributed over a radius of more than 1,800 meters around the wind turbine.
Only at the end of February did the energy office
respond to the demand of the district
to transport the broken pieces and clean the area.
So far, the 50 damaged farmers have not received compensation
for not being able to manage their meadows and hedges
in a limited manner.
The district had failed to produce a soil assessment
to determine the contamination of the soils
by fine, so-called nasty fibers of nanoparticle size
as a result of the damage.
The manufacturer of the rotor blades is General Electric Wind Energy,
short for GE Wind,
in Salzberg, Lower Saxony,
a subsidiary of the US company General Electric.
Again, on 26 October, a rotor blade of the wind turbine broke off,
which had already lost a blade in mid-October.
It seems that the controversial issue of the cause
can be solved in due time.
Wind power failures at an unreachable height.
In the context of this, it is obvious that
neither politics nor the companies in the wind industry
are interested in the fact
that data and information about wind turbines
are being published.
The damage should probably not come as a shock.
According to a private account,
a total of 56 wind power failures were documented for 2022,
after 35 in the year before,
and thus as many as never before.
Broken rotor blades,
machine houses burning for hours at an unreachable height,
and, as a novelty, collapsed towers.
The steeply increasing number
often goes back to incidents with the new types of systems,
which again shot up by 50 meters
and thus to a total height of 250 meters.
The hub height of the towers is 160 to 175 meters,
the rotor diameter 160 to 180 meters.
For comparison, the Olmer Münster,
just before the Cologne Cathedral,
the highest church in the world, measures 161 meters.
The Colosseum in Rome reaches
a maximum diameter of 188 meters.
To illustrate the size of a wind turbine,
one imagines that the Colosseum
would rotate sideways at the top of the church tower.
And the land circles participate.
Why not build the wind turbines even higher,
to achieve more wind output,
popular choice of the so-called windmills,
and thus higher revenues?
In China, the USA, and recently also in Europe,
in remote regions such as Norway,
and Sweden, Lapland,
extended wind parks have been set up,
in which 300 meters high wind turbines are still being added.
More deaths of reindeer.
The industry expects a leap in performance
from the skyscraper windmills,
as they absorb the stronger and more even high wind.
Another comparison.
The Eiffel Tower is 328 meters high,
the Cologne Cathedral 157 meters.
Accordingly, the ground vibrations
generated by the gigantic industrial facilities,
flickering shadows,
clocked noises,
and the health-damaging infrasound.
From the devastation of large regions
in the Scandinavian tundra,
only the indigenous Sami people
are affected by their reindeer herds.
But the Sami in Norway
demand with their supporters
the reconstruction of all 151 windmills,
because the gigantic wind turbines
frightened their animals.
The number of miscarriages and deaths
among the reindeer should be significantly increased.
With their demand,
the Scandinavian indigenous people
should be granted more rights
than the rest of the EU citizens.
The last leap in size of the windmills
is reminiscent of the parable
of the tower-building to Babel.
But in the present,
it is not a single building,
but a whole army
of raw-material-degrading
industrial anomalies
in our landscapes
and more and more often
in protected forests,
allegedly to achieve
a fictional climate neutrality.
In reality, however,
because the financial market-relevant
green-capitalist business
with the actually non-regenerative
natural energies is also politically relevant
and therefore uncritically supported
in the international competition.
Rotors longer than a Boeing 747
Since 2019,
GE is building rotor blades
of 107 meters in length,
and 1.4 times as long
as a Boeing 747.
LM Windpower,
with its headquarters in Kolding, Denmark,
has been producing rotor blades
of 100 meters in length
in French Cherbourg since 2019.
Developers in Saxony
want to build two 380-meter-high
windmills soon.
To minimize the weight of the blades,
the manufacturers use almost only
the more expensive carbon fiber-enhanced
plastics CFK.
The typical balsa wood of 50 trees
is processed in the constructions
of PFAS Chemikalie Bisphenol A,
among others.
CFK materials reach temperatures
of more than 650 degrees
in a fire
and fall to the critical size
of nanoparticles
that can penetrate the lungs,
as Sebastian Eibl from the Institute
of Environmental Sciences in Erding said.
You can't put out fires.
In the Allgäu municipality of Fuchstal
from September to the beginning of October
three windmills in the municipality forest
Leda have already delivered
all new rotor blades of the manufacturer
LM Windpower damaged.
The hub height of the windmills
is 166 meters.
The length of the blades is 80 meters.
For the storage and transport
to the towers, wide slits
were drilled in the forest.
LM Windpower was taken over by GE in 2016,
but remained operationally independent.
For the regulation of cost
costs must be determined
whether the cracks in the strongly bent
rotor blades on the long transport route
from Denmark via Swinemünde
to Fuchstal have arisen
or due to a construction error.
As it is said, the operation
of the windmills should be delayed
by only three months due to the damage.
The investment costs for the municipality
and Bürgerwindpark amount
to 22 million euros.
In December 2022,
an XXL windmill
of the manufacturer Vestas
with wings made of CFK plastic
was completely demolished.
The Repower plant
was only built in 2021.
At the height, the fire brigade
could not extinguish the fire
and therefore had the fire
controlled.
Extinguishing measures on windmills
are not possible.
The fire brigade had to limit
itself to the spacious closure
of the site and the fight
against wildfires.
Unknown consequences.
Is there a danger?
On January 16,
Petra Weishaupt,
an employee of the Federal Environment
Agency, said on TV
of the Saarländisch Rundfunk
that she does not see any danger
due to dangerous fibers.
It is not known
to what extent
nasty fibers are released
in such fires.
This is due to the danger
of burning wind turbines
with the effect of a large-scale
pollution of forests and soils
due to fibers and nanoparticles.
They rely on the actions
of the government.
Further information
about the considerable contamination
of the environment with pollutants
as a result of the explosion
of wind turbines is urgently needed.
In the Hohenmarck
near Lippramsdorf, Haltern,
the tower of a wind turbine
of a total height of 249 meters
collapsed the day before
it was put into operation.
The engine room collapsed
with all the technical systems
and rotor blades.
The wind turbine of the Nordex
manufacturer could not be rebuilt
and was therefore blown up
in April 2022.
A self-destructive process.
A 3,000 square meter
large piece of forest had to be
removed and blown up
with the same type of wind turbines.
With the large-scale environmental
pollution caused by fires,
breaks of rotor blades and
explosions, no one in this country
knows what to do.
Instead, the problem is
tried to be solved for a while.
The numerous recent failures
and high financial losses
of the wind turbines manufacturers,
not least through sheer gigantomania,
do not open up a playground
The greed of the businessmen
with the natural energies
leads to a self-destructive process
when the playgrounds of the feasible
collide with the physically technical
limits.
Does the technology competition
ruin the wind turbine industry?
The headline of an article
in the Handelsblatt of July 25, 2023
was the technical development
of the wind turbines is rapid,
but it has its price.
The industry is well advised
that the wind turbine industry
should be more, faster,
and more meaningful.
The companies put additional
pressure on the lack of skilled workers
and rising raw material prices.
Wind power makes horrendous losses
After the billions of debacle
at Siemens Gamesa,
many participants were
encouraged to take a break
from the race.
In an interview with the World
on Sunday, Siemens Energy
concluded,
Noteworthy?
Despite decades
of state aid and billions
of subsidies,
the Schlamassel has
stepped away from the tax
budget.
The federal government
had practically
abolished the supply chain
law on wind.
If it were to be amended,
the dead silent
would be the
dead silent.
The headlines
climate protection and
sustainability of the
actually non-regenerative
wind energy would
now be maculature.
