Today I will take you around the Korean traditional market on Jeju Island. From fresh produce to seafood, hallabong oranges to street food, it's all there. We tried many different types of Octopus Cheesecake that looked like Bunggeoppang but in reality they weren't. For lunch, we visit the Public Market where food stalls serve Hwedeopbap (raw fish with rice and vegetables) and more. Watch the video to see how the exploration unfolds!
Annyeong chingu!
Today we're eating street food on Jeju Island.
Afterwards, I show you an underground shopping mall.
Annyeong chingu!
It's a very sunny day on Jeju Island.
And today we're going to show you guys a traditional market here on this island.
It's called Dongmun Market.
There are multiple entrances.
Here's one, another one, and yet another one.
One of the specialties on Jeju Island is the Hallabong, these mandarin oranges.
You could buy them as gift sets.
Seogwipo Hallabong.
Seogwipo is the south side of Jeju Island.
It is Thursday.
We have trucks pulling in with the goodies.
Due to customs, it could be a challenge to bring back Hallabong to your country.
Instead, you could buy them in preserved form in chocolate, pies, and other snacks.
Okay, let's make a right.
What is that rotating thing?
It's to help prevent flies.
The entrance right of number three is fresh produce as well as kimchi and other side dishes.
Dried seafood such as squid.
And this one is omegi.
The inside contains red beans.
Oh, it's very cushiony.
I was expecting to be very sweet.
It's a very mild flavor.
It's delicate.
Grandma-friendly in terms of texture.
That one has an orange flavor.
Also not too sweet.
You get a hint of that citrus in there.
It's actually quite nice.
It's subtle.
The name of the shop is Yeosin Tteokjip.
Here you see various souvenirs.
We have dolharubang, the haenyeo, more haenyeo, and the heukdaeji.
We made it to gate four and we're gonna make a U-turn.
I'm gonna check out the other rows.
Damn, this grandpa got swag.
His pure white beard with a rainbow patch top is a win.
This is uncut jokbal, pig's feet.
Jeju Dongmun Fisheries Market.
It is lively in this area.
There's a lot of chatter amongst the vendors.
Admire the iridescence.
Do you think video does not do it justice?
You must see this in real life.
For the lively seafood action, enter or exit through gate six.
Interested in some Korean kitchenware?
You could cook your ramyeon in that, in the golden pots.
It's not too humid.
However, I am breaking out in sweat.
Gate seven, here we come.
We have more seafood except this area.
They are more dedicated to the dried sort.
For those who want to fiber up and are staying at a hotel,
you could pick up side dishes, more hallabong oranges, as well as juice.
If you're wondering what these discs are about, it's to help prevent flies.
Is it just me or does that long wavy plastic remind you of a hair commercial?
Oh, this is gorgeous.
You know, these are so cool.
It looks velvety.
You're supposed to dip it with the sauce.
This is the beginning of gate eight.
So here you could get fresh seafood.
On the second floor, they have a restaurant where you can sit down and eat.
This shop uses straws to get rid of the flies.
On the south side of the island, they were selling this at the Olle market as well,
the crab croquette.
Flavors come in kimchi cream, Korean vegetables.
And you could put sweet ghillie sauce on there.
Hiking gear.
These look like bungeoppang, but they are not.
On the inside, it contains dried octopus, Jeju barley, and cheese.
Each one costs 2,000 won.
Wow, look at that cheesiness.
This octopus bread shop is located right next to the butcher shop.
And I am taking advantage of this fan.
All right, my baby's almost ready.
Oh, that's the back.
This is the front face.
Let's do the cheesy test.
Let's pull it apart.
Is it going to be majestic?
Oh, yes.
What an interesting combo.
Having octopus and cheese.
Needless to say, A plus on the stretch.
And the outside is not oily.
So you can touch your face without feeling gross about it.
Let's see what else there is to eat around here.
A classic Korean street food, tteokbokki.
I've had tteokbokki many times before, especially in Korea.
And I had it last week.
So I'm going to skip on that today and try other things.
Yet another tteokbokki shop.
They also sell kimbap, as well as dumplings, mandu.
We have various fried goods, as well as gimmari.
Another tteokbokki shop, Sarang Bunsik.
Welcome order, like, kimbap tteokbokki group.
Public market.
I've never been in this area, so let's take a look.
Oh, they have a bunch of restaurants in this area.
Most of which is closed.
And here are the shops that are open.
Oh, quite an extensive menu.
I haven't had a real meal today yet.
So let's do it.
I want to keep it light.
I'm going to order a hoe-deopbap.
So there's an area you can keep your shoes on and sit, western style.
Or you can sit on a mat.
Just got a hoe-deopbap, as well as a variety of banchan.
This is doenjang-guk.
Of course, we have our napa cabbage kimchi.
I'm guessing this is squid with a bowl of white rice.
Garlic.
I've been spending quite a bit of bling bling on filming food vlogs this week.
Today, I'm going to take it a little bit easy.
Go lower budget, eat lighter, eat more veggies whenever I can.
You could put sauces on the hoe-deopbap.
Why is that steaming pan left untended?
Who abandoned you?
I will give you my love.
That one's sweet, a little salty, a little sour.
It's delicious because of the sourness.
Raw garlic can be too spicy.
This garlic looks to be pickled.
Sweet.
Very sweet.
And I don't know why, it gives me alcoholic vibes for some reason.
The beginning of that flavor makes me want to say it's one of the worst kimchi I've ever had.
But the ending flavor makes up for it.
The ending tastes more fermented.
It's actually too sweet.
Very much like candy.
Okay, let's wash that candy down.
Nearly tastes like water.
Here's the thing.
If you eat somewhere for a cheaper price, you cannot expect them to use all the ingredients
to their fullest.
They're going to skimp out on some ingredients, save some money.
That's not to say cheaper food should not taste as good.
But it just explains why food may taste the way it is, depending on how much you pay for it.
I'm enjoying the hoe-deopbap though.
For those looking for flavor, I would recommend getting a stew, something like that instead.
This is a fish you have to eat mindfully.
There's a lot of thin bones.
There's nothing particularly like, you know, poorlicious about this fish.
But I like fish.
Just plain grilled fish.
I finished my entree.
I'm ready to go.
But I'm waiting for one thing.
My leg is asleep right now, so I have to wait for it to fully wake up.
We're going to head back to the main market area.
I would eat more.
However, I gotta save a little bit of room in my stomach to film my next mukbang.
These are traditional Korean tables.
For those who watch my mukbang on my Miss Mina Oh channel,
that's the kind of traditional Korean table I use to film on.
Here we have hotteok.
Some hotteok just contain sugar.
Other ones contain veggies.
We made an exit at gate one.
On the outside of the market,
we have ladies who have set up umbrellas and selling fresh produce on the street as well.
I took you guys on traditional Korean market tours a couple times before
in Seoul, in Busan, and also in Jeju-do.
They may look similar, but they all have their differences.
Like in Jeju-do, they have their own specialties.
So at Dongmun Market, you'll see a lot of hallabong.
You know, the Mandarin oranges.
At Gwangjang Market, it's all about the street food.
Many, many options.
Here, there aren't too many street food options.
You did see the tteokbokki and some soondae.
Hope you guys enjoyed the market tour and eating with me.
I'll see you guys in the next travel video.
And remember to follow me on Snapchat and Instagram.
Next to gate four of Dongmun Market,
we have a shopping mall on the basement level.
We're going to walk down these stairs.
Thankfully, we have AC down here.
Oh, I like that threaded detail on that.
We have clothing for children,
clothing for males,
tassels.
I must have avec moi.
That's French for with me.
Etude House,
Fae Shop,
brands that you won't leave Korea without seeing.
This underground shopping mall spans for blocks.
We have tons of makeup shops.
Aritaum, pajamas, women's fashion.
So whatever age you are, there is a store here waiting for you.
Hey, that girl looks familiar.
What's this?
