Lobster rolls, baseball & vape shops: Top online searches in Phoenix in 2023

Just two more days left in 2023 a time to look back on the year that was tonight. ABC 15 data analyst Garrett Archer takes you inside the numbers on the top Google trends of 2023 in the valley and beyond from TV shows to concerts, food and more Google trends can show you a lot about where you live. The top trending TV show in Phoenix this year was HBO's The Last of Us, a post-apocalyptic zombie drama thriller based on a highly rated video game of the same name released about 10 years ago. Next on the list was Netflix's The Night Agent, followed by ABC's The Golden Bachelor, and rounding out the top five, Amazon's Daisy Joan in the sixth, and finally Apple TV's Shrinking. Swifties and gamers doing a lot of Googling in the valley this year. Google trends data showing the top trending musical tour was Taylor Swift's The Heiress Tour. The event was so big that Glendale renamed itself Swift City for one weekend in March when Swifties poured into State Farm Stadium to watch Taylor's first concert tour since 2018. The subsequent wide release of the movie theaters probably didn't hurt either. The Heiress Tour was followed in popularity by Drake's It's All a Blur Tour and Beyonce's Renaissance World Tour. We don't live near an ocean, but many were craving lobster rolls. Google says Phoenix was the only place in the U.S. where the phrase lobster roll near me was a top five trending search. But checking for air quality was a bigger deal. Of all the near me style searches, air quality was number one. In the versus category, Phoenicians were into boxing and baseball. Three of the top five versus trendings were boxing, with a title match between Canelo, Alvarez, and John Ryder topping the list. The semifinal game of the World Baseball Classic between Mexico and Japan took second. Even in 2023, Google accounts for about 90% of internet search traffic.
