We made it to Brunei Island. Welcome to an island off of an island.
Very much so. Yeah. Also I just did that in the surf so don't mind me. We love
hurting our faces. Yeah I just head-butted my board straight. First time I went on it.
But yes here we are and it's well sunny but still very fresh down here. We're so
far south. It is chilly. Yeah. We've got a bit of a... I mean it is Tasmania so the
weather keeps changing every second but we've sort of come along the normal way.
We checked out the famous neck of Brunei Island. Got to have a look at it.
Better on high tide on a sunny day but still cool. And now we're heading down.
We're almost at Adventure Bay which is gonna be protected from the wind today
but then we want to sort of go up over the mountain range and check down south.
Yep we're gonna check out Cloudy Bay which has been high on our list for a
while. Mmm tomorrow morning we're hoping it'll be pristine down there. And then we are
staying at a few Airbnbs that are really well known that have been on at least on
my list for a while and I'm dying to check out. And it's for our birthdays.
Yeah so Glenn's birthday is on the 2nd of March mine's on the 11th so we have
about like a week buffer where we just say that that's our week of celebrating
our birthdays. Plus our anniversary was literally a few days earlier so it's
quite an exciting time so we're just treating ourselves.
Good morning. Good morning. We're at the beautiful Cloudy Bay. We came in, we got
here yesterday afternoon but it was blowing an absolute gale so we just
stayed a little free camp literally 500 meters that way. I've come down bright
and early this morning because it's a pearler of a day. Hoping for some waves
but it's huge. Scary big. It's so big the whole beach is just closing out so we're
just gonna enjoy a little morning coffee here. So beautiful there's no one else
here which is lovely so we just hang out here for a little bit. We really don't
know what we're doing. No.
So a few people asked the last time I made potato hash to actually give the
recipe so you can do whatever you want I don't really know I just started doing
it and I don't really know exactly there's no real measurements but
basically dice and boil your potatoes, saute onion and garlic, chop and add your
mushrooms, chuck your potatoes in, then season as much or as little as you like
depending on how spicy you like it. So a bunch of paprika, chili flakes, cayenne
pepper, a pinch of curry powder, salt and pepper. Then if you eat eggs, crack eggs
over the top. If you don't eat eggs you can then just get firm tofu and crumble
it up really nicely. It ends up being like a really nice scramble texture.
If you eat cheese, chuck cheese on top. If you don't eat cheese get your favorite
vegan cheese or add a bit of nutritional yeast as well. So chuck that all
together really and then you can either have it in a bowl, in a wrap.
Sriracha mayo goes really well with it, so does salsa is excellent and of course
avocado everyone's favorite so so good. And that's basically it. So have fun with it, do
whatever you like but thought I might as well let you know what's actually in it.
But for now we're just gonna enjoy this with this incredible view. So turns out
we ended up staying here all day and in typical Tassie fashion. It's a bit doom
and gloom now this afternoon. So just enjoyed this and we've got a nice warming
ramen of some kind. Absolute favorite on the road.
What a pearler of a morning. We were supposed to get like 10 mils this
morning of rain and it's been an absolute screamer. So I've already had
two serves. Time for a second coffee. And just enjoy this sunshine before the wind swings.
And then I think we'll be heading up north again as it swings a full 180.
All of a sudden that wind really kicked in so we've now moved to a little bit more
protection. We're also expecting a bit of rain tonight so here's hoping it's not too
bad, not too cold, not too muddy for yeeeeah.
Got the lovely dhal on the menu tonight. Evenings are still really nice and cold
so it's so nice having real comfort food at the moment.
What do you reckon Leigh? Not interested.
Hey you. What are you doing? Sniffing around here.
Bit of a dreary morning at camp so we decided to head our way over to the west side.
We're in the little town of Elona. Elona, Elona.
Yeah we have two Airbnbs that we're going to be checking into.
Yeah we're just celebrating our birthdays. We're going all out.
We have the next four nights. Four nights.
So we have one stay, two nights at one stay, two nights at the next one.
Places that I've been wanting to check out for a while so yeah, very keen.
But just a slow morning, slow start to the day.
And just get ready for a little bit of... Kick back? Yeah.
We're coming into some, I say this all the time, but crazy bad weather so it's going to be nice to be in a house.
If anyone knows anything about Bruny Island, they all know the Bruny Baker. Famous.
Yeah you really can't come to Bruny without getting a loaf of bread from the bread fridge.
Literally on the side of the highway. You gotta.
Two fridges, stocked to the brim at nine and one.
We're a bit late. A little late.
This food smells so good. It's still warm.
And they're $7.50 each and it's just on an honor system so don't steal any bread.
Or we'll get ya. Or we'll get ya.
Yeah and then you just... Pay in the bottom. Pay in here.
I'm sure this isn't new to anyone but if it happens to be, definitely give it a crack if you come to Bruny.
And now we have the privilege of actually going to the Airbnb owned by the Bruny Baker.
So we're gonna take our bread, go check in.
Happy birthday! Yay!
So I've just found out a really sad thing about Glenn.
He doesn't like butter on his toast. Like, why don't you like butter on your toast?
It just doesn't do anything.
Are you kidding me? Butter doesn't do anything on toast?
So you're just eating it dry?
Oh my gosh. My mom, Kathy, if you're watching this, I am so sorry.
I didn't know I was dating a guy who doesn't like butter on toast.
What?
Oh what a lovely time. So nice.
And of course, we had to pick up a fresh loaf of bread.
And also, we didn't mention before but these are chocolate covered Anzac biscuits.
Yeah. So good.
These are also in the fridge for $2.50.
So for an even $10 you get a loaf of bread.
And two bickies.
And two bickies. Happy days.
Not for you.
Now we're just waiting in line for the ferry.
It comes every 20 minutes which is so good.
So if you are coming to Bruny Island, you literally don't even need to think about it.
Just roll up. On the way over, we literally drove straight on and left which was great.
So wait for that. It's been really nice. Not the best weather but I mean it's pretty standard for Tassie.
Just make the most of what you can. Really beautiful stays.
Yeah. Definitely recommend coming to Bruny Island.
Whether it's for a few of the stays that we stayed at or for camping.
There is a caravan park in Adventure Bay.
Yeah. And then there's a bit of free camping as well but most aren't dog friendly so that limited us a bit.
But yeah. It's a pretty beautiful spot.
And then the cool thing with On Island, same as Tassie but on a much smaller scale is
if it's the wind blowing one way, just go to the other side.
And it's amazing the difference too.
You could spend like a week or two here if you wanted.
Yeah.
Or a couple of days.
Yeah.
But now, we're on our way back to mainland of Tassie and we've got a new addition to add to Nigel.
Yeah.
It's not that exciting but I'm kind of excited about it.
It's going to make our living situation a whole lot better.
So next week we'll be showing you that and then we'll be heading back over to the Tasman Peninsula
to have a bit of a romp around there.
See you then.
Bye.
