Greatness comes in many different forms when you see it in sports.
Sometimes it's one incredible moment that forever goes down in the history books,
and other times it's unyielding consistency mercilessly putting the pressure on your opponents.
And you know what?
Jordan Anthony from the University of Kentucky,
an 18-year-old freshman, is fitting the definition of consistency
possibly better than any other sprinter in the nation right now.
At the 2023 Red Raider Open at Texas Tech,
Jordan Anthony just threw down one of the fastest 60-meter sprint times of the year.
With a solid start and a very quick switch to his top-end speed,
Anthony won this race with a finishing time of 6.55 seconds,
one of the fastest times in the world this season.
This win was another convincing win, as he took the victory by .05 seconds,
which doesn't sound like much, but in the 60, it's actually a pretty solid gap.
But what makes this performance even more incredible is that it now lands him
as the fourth fastest junior 60-meter athlete of all time,
now only falling behind Mark Lewis-Francis from Great Britain,
D'Angelo Cherry from the United States, and Sven Mathis from Germany.
Looking at Anthony's season so far, his 2023 campaign has been miraculous.
For his first competition, he actually ran three individual 60-meter races,
clocking times of 6.63, 6.59, and for the finals, he threw down a 6.57.
But again, he somehow managed to dig out an even faster time,
and at 6.55, he's solidifying himself as one of the greatest indoor junior sprinters to ever compete.
Now, we've seen Anthony perform extremely well in high school,
winning the national championship in the under-20 division in the 200 meters at 20.35,
and also running one of the fastest times in 100-meter history in high school at 10.14.
But I gotta say, his 60-meter capabilities are looking quite incredible,
and amazingly, this is only his second competition of the year.
With every single race that he runs,
I'm convinced that this man needs to give track and field a real shot,
because believe it or not, he also spends many hours on the gridiron,
focusing on football for the University of Kentucky.
And with speed like this, this man is going to run away from any other competition.
Thanks for watching, everyone.
And as always, until next time.
