Welcome to the 1st episode of our series on the North Pole Star.
The main content of this series is divided into 4 parts,
which are the origin, characteristics, way of determining, and interesting things.
First, we will learn about the historical origin of the North Pole Star.
In ancient times, the Polaris star was near the North Pole.
Although there was no star that could be seen with the naked eye near the North Pole at that time,
the point between the Polaris and Kozab was quite close to the North Pole,
and it seems that the whole star system was used by the Phoenicians to determine the direction of the North Pole.
Second, it is the characteristics.
The North Pole Star is not the brightest star in the sky, so it is very difficult to determine.
The North Pole Star almost stands still at the North Pole.
The North Pole Star lies at the tail of the small star.
Next is how to determine the North Pole Star.
Step 1. Determine through the Polaris star.
We take a segment with a length of 5 times the distance between the two alpha and beta stars in the Polaris star,
then we will find the North Pole Star.
Step 2. Determine through the Polaris star.
Draw a square segment with the gamma-sigma of the North Pole Star.
On the previous paragraph, take a segment with a length of about 7 times the gamma-sigma,
then we will find the North Pole Star.
The interesting thing is that there is always only one North Pole Star.
The North Pole Star is not the famous quote of Shakespeare,
quoted by the Roman emperor Julius Caesar.
I live far away like the North Pole Star.
So at some point on Earth, there is a star on the North Pole,
but many times it passes, the position of the North Pole will change,
so there will be many stars called the North Pole Star in history.
In the past, the North Pole Star of 2600 BC,
the period of the construction of the pyramid in ancient Egypt,
is the star Thuban in the star Draco.
Until 400 BC, the time of the famous philosopher Pluto,
the brightest star protector of Kochab became the North Pole Star.
In the future, nearly 12,000 years later, our ancestor will be called Vega,
one of the brightest stars in the sky is the North Pole Star in the year 14,000.
This is the end of our program. Thank you for listening.
