An Inside Look at 90.3 The Core

The Core is a student- and community-run radio station right here on Livingston campus in the heart of Rutgers University. We broadcast live on FM frequency at 90.3. We are purely student-run — no outside things coming in and pushing us one way or another. A place where people, Rutgers students and anyone, pretty much community members as well, can come and learn how to broadcast and share their love of music. I would say my favorite part of our space is definitely the broadcasting air studio. It's where you do your show. I like to think of it as, like, a control room in a ship because we have the board and all the equipment, and I just take a seat, and it's like I'm driving the ship, but the ship is the radio. Most people who come here have no history in broadcasting or radio or, like, this type of media. You don't need to be a music fanatic to join. You don't need any experience — you can share anything that you want. You can share any kind of music that you listen to. I think we have such a unique space to express all different forms of underground music, and I would just love to see our platform flourish and just have high-quality programming with plenty of people listening.
