Off The Desk 10/22/26

Good morning. Happy Thursday and welcome to Off the Desk. I'm Julia O'Keefe. I'm Kaylee Collins. I'm Chris Pazakis. Happy Thursday. Happy Thursday. It's Friday, Junior. It's Friday, Junior. I said it on the news this morning. Since I've been back. Yeah. Yeah. Well, it's the first Thursday. Yeah, we kept that as like your thing. We haven't even said it at all. I don't think I think some people like it. Some people don't. I guess that's with anything. But it makes us just a little bit more excited that we're nearing the end of the week. Yeah. Yeah. It's a positive spirit. been on a Thursday yeah I like it we'll take it yeah I like it I like it too so yeah on this uh Friday Jr we are um you know there's some stuff going on on the national day calendar there is some riveting things and uh also we're enjoying yet another nice fall day it was a little bit chilly this morning but it looks like as has been the case the whole week it's going to be warmer heading into the afternoon and Chris you've told us all week long it's kind of copy and paste every day but really no complaints we've all been able to get outside and kind of enjoy this weather yeah I mean I don't think you can ask for a better stretch of weather this time of year uh looks to be nice and sunny today again temperatures in the 50s and 60s a little breezy exactly how it has been the past few days uh but going into the weekend looks fantastic you got any outdoor plans this weekend it looks great um and I was saying this morning if I could make the seven day even a 10 day forecast I would keep it all the way dry all the way through I don't see anything I think we can go at least good two weeks without seeing any rain wow so maybe not even longer I mean who knows uh which is a good and bad thing of course we like our sunny days and dry weather but uh we just got out of a drought and hopefully we don't fall back into one and it is that time of the year that all the brush and the grass and the leaves are all dry and dead so that's true if you're starting any bonfires outside or just any kind of flammable materials cigarettes and stuff there is a bigger brush fire risk now so heads up on that but I mean for October going into November temperatures in the upper 50s and 60s is not bad with a good amount of sun it's nice enjoy it because it's not going to last forever winter is coming we were talking the other day about the fall foliage and stuff too and just being outside whether you're driving around or going for a walk it just feels very festive yeah you get to enjoy it definitely feels like fall yeah like you get those comfortable afternoons it's not hot or warm but it's comfortable out yeah if you've got a sweatshirt on and stuff and then in the morning it's chilly leaves are flying around all the colors are there pumpkins yeah yes so it definitely has it's definitely fall for sure we love fall we love fall now Chris we know that today's actually uh not even Friday Jr for you, it's actually Friday my Friday today you get to enjoy a meaningful day off tomorrow yeah taking just a long weekend um and it's actually a nice looking weekend for me for the weather it looks great so i'm excited to be outside the next few days to just kind of hang out. Tonight, Patriots and Bears, which I did not plan that around this. When I saw that that was the case, I was like, wow, this is great. I can actually stay up and watch the game and not have to worry about it. So we're going to get together with some friends tonight that are also Patriots fans and just watch the game with them. And we'll be back towards my hometown. My family, every fall, around sometime in October, differs every year when everyone can get together. But we do this big fall fun gathering on my mom's side and that's gonna be on Saturday and it's just like the family gets together it's like fall food and drinks and everyone just kind of wears their an outfit like a funny costume or something and we do like uh stuff like in regards to like the have you ever seen the hot wings challenge yeah so we're doing that we did it last year and it's fun it's painful i'm not gonna lie i would be such a wimp with that the hot sauce is hot i wanted to give up when i got to like six or seven, but I kept pushing myself because the first few, not bad at all. You're like, this is it. But once you get to the fourth or fifth, it comes on to you. And then by the eighth, I couldn't breathe. I was like, I'm done. I don't think I can reach nine or ten. That's not enjoyable. No, you gotta stop when you can't breathe. But we're doing it again. Good luck. And we're going pumping, picking. Sunday, we're going to go golfing with my brother, my dad, my grandpa. a couple cousins and then my brother's birthday was this past week so we're gonna just have like a dinner for him this weekend too and i don't know it's just kind of a weekend to go down and see some family and that's great i've really been home or seen a lot of my family in a little over a month so it'll be good to be back down there nice you're gonna have to keep us updated on the hot wings challenge yeah when you come back i'll let you know on monday yeah yeah eager to hear for sure cool um well today on the national day calendar it's national color day very exciting so guys what's your favorite color my favorite color is blue okay gosh my favorite color is blue too mine's blue as well i like a baby blue like a light okay okay um i like a cerulean blue of course leave it to julia to have a very specific it's a crayola crayon color cerulean it's like a lighter or darker blue it's like it's like the in-between it leans more like no it does lean more like what's the rolling so it's blue like it's i'm trying to find it around the room like it's one of the colors on the off the desk logo kind of like not the royal blue but not the light light blue like the in-between you know like a medium almost leans aqua has a little bit of that blue in it okay i don't know you know what i have been really getting back into pink lately too oh okay i'm like a big like like baby pink baby blue like that kind of your baby maybe because of the baby because what's your favorite shade of blue i'm looking up so really um i tend to be a lighter blue fan okay yeah like my bedroom is painted light blue at home my bedroom at one point was painted like yeah our bathroom used to be blue but then when we redid it i also people fight over if it's a shade or not i'm a big fan of gray oh gray is nice gray is a good color to wear yeah yeah like wearing gray um we're like it's a good neutral it is different you're like painting a wall in your home or something this is cerulean blue okay that's pretty right yeah like the it's nice blue anyway good blue um anyway i like blues i i also really like green which is hard because i can't wear anything green and i have some really nice green ties that no one will ever see me wear oh yeah because i can't wear them on the green screen have you guys ever done like your um i haven't done it but i'm interested to do it your color analysis no but i'm also very interested in it yeah it's basically just somebody can or i don't know if there's like experts in it or if you could probably just go online and see what people say but um based off your complexion and your features like your hair color and um you know different features of like your appearance yeah somebody can tell you or you could find out for yourself which colors are more flattering and bring out different um kind of like accentuate certain features that you already have like your eye color and things like that so i think i i think i lean a little bit like warmer since i have like a lighter complexion but i'm interested to see what an analysis would be for that yeah i'm very interested in that too and even when like picking like makeup shades and stuff too it's hard to tell what undertone you are and that kind of sets up everything yeah and i've struggled which i guess means that i'm neutral but i think i lean cooler and a lot of like makeup products in particular lean warmer and so that's harder to match like i i know i don't look good in orange or like even actually not actually that i don't think i literally but like orange is tough because who's like yes orange is my color yeah yeah but or like yellow this is like i i'm not against orange like i like it this time of year i have an orange tie i wear yeah but no i wouldn't say orange is my favorite color but i don't hate it i don't are there any colors you guys hate orange you hate orange yeah i used to hate yellow when i was a kid like yeah i'm not a yellow fan yellow but now now i like it but again i like the lighter shades like a dark like mustardy yellow i don't not it yeah i like yellow i feel like if you take yellow out of the rainbow like just something's missing it is missing something's missing but i don't look good and that's another warmer color and like i tend to lean cooler so i don't wear yellow but i like it i don't wear a lot of red i like to wear yellow in the summer in the summer yeah you don't like red chris i don't wear a lot of red now okay okay i kind of like wearing red every now and again i have a few red ties but i don't think i own anything that i just wear red on the regular i have one red sweater and it comes out around christmas time and that's kind of it yeah yeah the festive feel the festive feel colors you know what about purple i got purple on i like purple that's a good that's a good purple too like a like a deep one yeah yeah my sister and my mom that uh both love purple both they're in my crib my favorite colors colors colors you gotta love them i guess a color you know you can talk about it all day we chatted about that for a bit um it's also national make a dog's day day so julia will be partaking in that of course i will yes and chris too yeah Oh, I'd take Hershey for a walk when I go home, probably. And then Hershey and I got a long weekend, just the two of us. Oh, right. Because your wife is going to be away. Yeah, she's out in Utah this weekend. Ah, that'd be good, though. Yeah. Cool. You and Hershey hanging out. Me and the girl, yeah, hanging out. So cute. There you go. I want to get a dog eventually. I think maybe once we move into the house and get a little bit more settled with our child. Well, yeah. because i want her to have like a childhood dog too yeah oh yeah they're the best they're the best they really are so make your dogs day today because really i mean my dogs make my day every day so they deserve it they deserve it yeah all right should we take a break yeah come back with some other some other things stay tuned stay tuned all right welcome back to off the desk on thursday here we are here we are back at it yeah um so this has been obviously something that gets talked about every year around this time of year but i feel like last year we knew earlier what it was going to be we're talking about the super bowl halftime show and uh yeah it still has not been officially announced yet it has not um of course there's been rumors i know miley cyrus is a big one that i've heard about yeah people are speculating but this week a headline came out that someone reportedly chose himself as the Super Bowl halftime show headliner. That is Jay-Z. Not confirmed. The headlines were literally just Jay-Z reportedly chose himself. And that's because he works closely with the NFL or he's something involved in that whole realm. Has he ever performed at the halftime show? Not a headliner. I don't think so. Has he appeared for anyone else's performance? Well, Beyonce did it. i don't know for a fact whether he was in that or not i don't know if he was either i feel like i i mean i'm not gonna lie like i think some of the old school jay-z is good and like if he wants to bring out beyonce that'd be kind of cool that could be good right of course now yeah people are saying well would he bring out beyonce right yeah like he could be into that yeah he's got some bigger songs with rihanna too rihanna just recently did it too she did it hers was so good i loved that rihanna did a good job at the super bowl halftime though yeah no you're right i've heard a lot of my with cyrus i've even heard justin bieber okay justin bieber i think i would get i'm kind of surprised he hasn't done that one i'm surprised right he's also been kind of mia lately yeah no one really sees a lot of him his coachella set was he cut that kind of like gave him a comeback yeah people were really into that yeah yeah that was and it was very nostalgic too oh yeah for sure so i could see people wanting to see that again but also that wasn't too long ago so how do you make it different again to kind of like if you're the headliner at the super bowl halftime show obviously so many options but this might be a hot take what about the jonas brothers i'm there they've been like making waves they have like they're back on tour yeah i see them all over tiktok they're super funny yes and very seems like they're relatable for celebrities you know and they're they're talented it would be a very nostalgic just fun halftime show i think that would be kind of cool i could get behind that or hear me out so miley cyrus if the rumors are true miley cyrus brings out the jonas brothers that can be good too and it does like a hannah yeah like song or something yeah that could be kind of fun too incorporates the jonas brothers i mean i would love to see miley cyrus i think it would be cool um also lady gaga is just one that always comes to mind one of them one of the memorable performances in the past but also she's amazing i think she's very talented she's a good performer yeah puts on a good show because more goes into this than just being a good well-liked artist it's a whole production it's what about like i wonder if you know obviously now that there are these more up-and-coming artists and stuff like i'm thinking eventually we'll probably see like an olivia rodrigo carpenter kind of thing sabrina carpenter or like tate mccray maybe tate mccray because she's on tour right now too right yeah and so is Olivia Rodrigo yeah I'm seeing clips of them um they But Tate McRae is a dancer, so she really dances a lot when she performs, which could be interesting for a halftime show. But I've seen a lot of clips of Olivia Rodrigo and the way that she incorporates her set design and also her fashion and everything and special effects. It looks like it's just a really fun show to watch. That could be kind of cool eventually for a Super Bowl halftime show to see how she performs on a stage like that. No, I agree. And I think Olivia Rodrigo also appeals to more than just like people see it or like her album covers and hear some songs and think she's a teeny bopper like for the teenage girls. But I saw videos or comments from parents who brought their kids to the concert and they're like, she's a punk rocker. She's got she's kind of got a whole she appeals to more than just the one generation, even if people don't know that without listening to her songs. But she puts on a good show. so has Post Malone or Drake done one I don't think so Post Malone would be great yeah especially because Post Malone like people are saying now I don't know if his new song his new single has been released yet I know it was teased recently but um he kind of did a shift into doing a lot of like country collaborations and people were kind of like we missed the old Post Malone when he was doing more rap and like hip-hop stuff yeah and this new single that he's supposedly releasing soon sounds more like his old stuff so if he was doing kind of like a switchback he also did release a little album back in the summer a few songs that he never released back from when he was in that and so they're back into his you know rappy post kind of thing I just get nostalgic about that because that was what I was listening to in college and it was always fun. I'm not going to lie he has some good country songs but I do miss him a little bit from his old self so cool we'll see what happens it probably won't be Taylor Swift I've kind of written that one off i don't think it will she's never done it i mean i guess now that she's married to someone in the nfl maybe she maybe she would i just think a lot of things i would say that that wouldn't happen yeah well she surprises me because like i things i wouldn't have thought about taylor swift has has like changed and even like the sound of her music and stuff has seemingly changed but She kind of does that. She likes to shake it up and go to different genres. So, yeah. Who knows if she would eventually want to do it. You know who I really like? Usher. Remember when Usher did it? Yeah, that was a good show. Usher was a good one. I like Katy Perry's She's just so funny. And her set. The left shark, right shark. The dancing sharks. There's so many over the years. You think about all the memorable moments. Coldplay, another one. That was very, very well done. Didn't Maroon 5 do it too? Probably. Red Hot Chili Peppers. Remember when Shakira and j-lo oh yeah they were like dancing and yeah i mean it caused some controversy but the way that they could like still dance i was like wow for you guys yeah yeah the weekend the weekend oh yeah so there's been obviously some great memorable ones and we'll have to see what happens this year if the rumors are true if Jay-Z did in fact choose himself um in other i guess new uh performance music news this is pretty exciting Glee is officially getting a reboot that's crazy never seen Glee no no okay it's actually so funny i it's funny i've never watched it start to finish but my mom and my sister would watch it when i was still living at home and every now and again i would like go and sit and watch with them and i've seen clips of it over the years too it seems very funny there's so many talented there were so many talented people who were part of that cast um and i catch myself a lot of the times like when i'm looking for certain songs i like the Glee version of things like i love the Glee version of Don't Stop Believin' i think that that's really good obviously it's not better than the original but i love that one um around christmas time oh holy night okay version i just i love that one uh what's her what's her name Leah Michele yeah Leah Michele she just she sings that song so well yeah um so yeah not a huge Glee fan but there was a lot of Glee appreciation i honestly like i'm in a similar i'm in a similar uh but i never watched it start to finish but yeah watched episodes here and there um and also love the Glee cast version of many songs, 'Somewhere Only We Know', great fantastic that's I actually knew that song the Glee version before the real version oh that's just very yeah well known um but there's a lot of them so that's exciting and some of the original cast has already been confirmed to go back to oh really yeah so i bet i bet it'll be successful i think so probably you never like reboots are tough there are some that really hit and some kind of miss the mark but we'll have to see what happens we'll have to see how many seasons were there of the original quite a few i i don't feel like i remember there being a lot but i think there were a lot would you give it a shot chris watch the new reboot probably not no i don't know i've never seen anything of it and i don't know it's funny six seasons from 2009 to 2015 um yeah it's kind of like The Office like it's like a high school i don't even know how to describe like high school drama but comedy and then there's like adult like can you tell that it's like i don't know how to describe this but like you know how The Office is like it's almost when you're watching it it's like it's like live like the camera like it's not like documentary style it's almost like documentary style or like it's not like that no I would put it more on like par with a new girls it's a sitcom it's yeah got it yeah so not documentary style like the office, parks and rec they're in modern family parks and rec is a good one too I love modern family yeah so many that was one of my like postpartum binge shows Like shows that I binged when I was, you know, at home with the baby. But I got to like, and that was a show that I had watched random episodes, but I watched it start to finish. And it's funny. I love Modern Family. So funny. So good. So there's some good ones. You can add that to the list. Wanted to talk about Halloween music? Yeah. There was like a list of, on Today, had a list of like the best Halloween songs. And there was, I could remember from when I was, you know, in elementary school, it was helping you learn how to spell Halloween. do you know oh i don't know that one no i'm gonna sing it because i'm also congested so it just hurt my voice that's why you're not gonna say i don't you know okay right now but um that was always a good one it'll get stuck in my head right now as i'm thinking of it but um thriller you i feel like you always hear on halloween playlist the monster mash the monster mash it's like the only one i hear yeah those monsters i always think of the one from hocus pocus too um when they're at the they're on the stage i put a spell on you oh yeah yeah yeah um that one sometimes is added to playlist it's like somebody's watching me or something yeah yeah yeah fun or like the the one from um it's like michael like the it's just like an instrumental spooky song from like the michael myers yeah where he's just like behind people yeah i know what you're talking about okay yeah it's like i don't but that's okay that's okay cool there's a slew of them yeah get your halloween playlist together because it's coming up about that time you're hosting a party you gotta have good aux right get those songs on there all right we're gonna take another short break and come back with just a few minutes left all right welcome back to these last few minutes of off the desk um something that i saw today time magazine released their top inventions of 2026 and there's some very interesting things on there so if you have time to look at all of them there was like 300 of them i looked at the wow yeah tons i looked in the consumer and technology section um that's what i would think would be like the most yeah yeah but there there's a lot of cool things on there and especially you know the holidays are coming up so if you're looking for a gift for someone might be a good place to look but of course on the list was the um the apple iphone duo that's definitely taken well it hasn't really been released or it hasn't been released it's been released but the iphone duo is that the tablet looking one yeah the one that foldable okay yeah foldable i don't know if it's in stores yet but they've released or they've announced yeah i don't know if we talked about that recently like it's like a thousand dollar and it folds it's like have you seen the samsung one yes it's like that yeah so that was obviously one of them another one though completely different realm um the company is called or they're introducing the dumb phone too and it's a flip phone the dumb the dumb phone yeah so it's the complete opposite just scaling back to the basics yeah sometimes i wish i had a flip phone hey you can get the dumb phone too sometimes i wish i just went back to just the phone calls yeah yeah because you don't right yeah so the company is dumb co and uh yeah this is their not the smartphone but the dumb phone just a flip phone it gives you the basic necessities um another thing was interesting this says that people i guess they were inspired by people saying they miss the clicking of like a blackberry when you're texting so there's um a detachable or attachable keyboard for the iphone that is a small keyboard thing you can slide it and it slides down if you want to if you want to text like oh if you were texting on a BlackBerry but then that makes your phone like longer yeah well it would it would fold up so you pull it down from like the back of your phone so if you've ever had a portable charger on the back of your phone okay it's kind of like that but then it's just another accessory you got to carry around make your phone bulkier yeah i don't really have the desire to and i think i would miss the buttons but i don't know i don't know um okay this one i thought was really cool i don't know how this works and i can't even begin to try to understand but it's called eye polish and they're press on nails acrylic press on nails and you can change the colors based on some infrared technology that you put a wand over it and you type in what color you want and it changes the color that's crazy so you can get one set and then you have access to hundreds of colors that's a game changer right it's crazy as long as it's i mean i guess you're i mean your nails are going to grow though so you're going to have to get it replaced anyways but if you right if like after a few days you're bored of the color you can just change it yeah change it based on what you're wearing like i don't know yeah looks kind of cool so interesting those are some standouts but i mean like i said there's hundreds and hundreds um but it's interesting to see you know how far we've come in 2026 i was thinking just like hearing that there was all these different inventions this year it's got to be kind of difficult though like you got to get pretty creative to come up with something brand new right in like in our modern world especially since with social media and stuff and like if you have an idea and god forbid you share even like a little bit about about it online it could get like swooped away real yeah um or to like think of something that somebody else hasn't already thought of you know right that's impressive what's going to be next who knows new things every day all right that's it for this episode today that's it on this friday
