Bonjour tout le monde, I guarantee that by the end of this video, you'll be able to have a short conversation with me in French.
Let's start. I will be saying the line in red and you will be saying the one in blue.
First of all, I'm going to go through the full script with you.
First, to help with your pronunciation, and then it will be your turn.
So listen carefully the first time around.
Remember, I'm going to be in red and you're going to be the blue line.
And this is the dialogue.
Bonjour. Comment ça va?
Ça va. Et toi?
Comment tu t'appelles?
Ça va bien. Merci.
Je m'appelle Alexa. Et toi?
Moi, c'est...
And this is where you put your name here.
So you could say, moi c'est Mohamed or moi c'est Jessica.
Salut. Au revoir. Merci.
So this is the full dialogue.
What I'm going to do now is go through line after line and translate it for you.
Afterwards, we are going to have a practice dialogue
where you are going to say the blue bit
and I'm going to say the red bit.
Bonjour. Comment ça va?
Hello. How are you?
And then you say, ça va. Et toi? Comment tu t'appelles?
I'm OK. And you? What is your name?
Comment tu t'appelles?
So practice those with me.
Comment tu t'appelles?
It's all about the pronunciation, the sound.
And I say, ça va bien. Merci.
I'm OK. Thank you.
Je m'appelle Alexa. Et toi?
My name is Alexa. And you?
Moi, c'est. And then that's when you put your name.
So me, it is. OK. You could say, moi, je m'appelle.
In this case, we say, me, it's.
Jessica or Mohamed or Tom or Paul or whatever.
Enchanté. C'est un joli prénom.
Nice to meet you. I am enchanted, if you wish.
So nice to meet you.
It is a pretty first name.
Remember that prénom is first name
and nom is second name, as in your family name.
Je peux te poser une question?
Can I ask you a question?
Quite often in French, when we ask a question,
we just have to say the sentence,
I can ask a question to you,
and then raise our voice.
And this is what I've just done.
Je peux te poser une question?
And then you answer, oui, bien sûr.
Yes, of course.
And here's my question.
Qu'est-ce que tu aimes faire le weekend?
What do you like to do at the weekend?
Now again, here, that's another way of asking question
by using the est-ce que formula.
We have three ways of asking questions in French.
Qu'est-ce que tu aimes faire le weekend?
And you answer, j'aime apprendre le français et lire.
Et toi?
I like to learn French and read.
And you?
And I answer, moi, j'aime regarder la télévision,
mais aussi dormir et voir mes amis.
I like to watch television,
but also to sleep and see my friends.
And then you say, je dois partir, désolé, salut.
I must go, sorry, bye-bye.
So that's your way of saying I must go,
I can't keep on, keep up with this conversation,
or keep on talking to you.
So I say, au revoir, merci, goodbye, thank you.
OK.
How are you feeling about this?
Shall we practice this dialogue together
and read the red and you read the blue?
I can't wait to hear you speak French with me.
Here we go.
Listen very carefully to what I have to say
and read the blue bit.
Bonjour, comment ça va?
Ça va bien, merci.
Je m'appelle Alexa et toi?
Enchantée, c'est un joli prénom.
Je peux te poser une question?
Qu'est-ce que tu aimes faire le week-end?
Moi, j'aime regarder la télévision,
mais aussi dormir et voir mes amis.
Au revoir, merci.
Very good.
See how well you did in so little time.
OK.
This time it is no practice.
It's for real.
So here we go.
Are you ready?
Est-ce que vous êtes prêts?
Super.
Here we go again.
Bonjour, comment ça va?
Ça va bien, merci.
Je m'appelle Alexa et toi?
Enchantée, c'est un joli prénom.
Je peux te poser une question?
Qu'est-ce que tu aimes faire le week-end?
Moi, j'aime regarder la télévision,
mais aussi dormir et voir mes amis.
OK.
Au revoir, merci.
That's it for today, guys.
Amazing job.
I'm super proud of you.
If you want to continue practicing your spoken French,
try this dialogue out with a friend.
You can read the red part this time.
And if you want to practice your written French,
why not try to have a conversation with someone
in the comments below?
If you enjoyed this video,
you'll definitely enjoy listening to a real-life French dialogue
between two natives planning to go to the cinema here.
That's it for me.
Au revoir, à bientôt.
Bisous, bisous.
