The Easiest Trick in Snowboarding

So you finally figured out snowboarding
and you want to learn your first trick.
Well, in today's video,
I'm going to teach you the easiest one that you can do.
You're probably not going to think it is at first,
but I promise this is the easiest trick in snowboarding.
And it is the half cab.
What that is, is a Switch Frontside 180.
And the reason why it is so easy
is because you naturally want to get back
to your regular way of riding so bad
that it just comes around.
It's super easy.
So let's jump into it.
First things first, you need to know what is Switch.
So this is the way I normally go down the mountain.
So Switch would be the opposite way,
my right shoulder forward.
So this is Switch.
Now, before we start jumping off the ground
and doing this trick,
because you do got to leave the ground
in order to do the trick,
let's do it without jumping.
So if you say, you don't even have to be very good
at riding Switch to do this trick.
Let's say I'm uncomfortable at riding Switch,
but I want to practice this.
So I'm willing to start the run my uncomfortable way.
And what I want you to do to practice
is you're going to go to your heel side edge,
and then you're going to just swing your board around
until you're back to regular.
So literally we're just kind of reverting it.
So we're Switch, heel side edge, back to regular.
And we're doing that basic half cab motion.
Boom.
Notice how my lead shoulder, my arm start to turn.
Might go to my heel side edge and then boom,
now this is in the front.
So that's how you can practice it prior to jumping.
It's going to, if you can go out and do a bunch of that,
start your run, always Switch,
and then just revert to regular,
that's going to help you out a ton.
So now what we want to do is we want to find a side hit
that's on the left side of the run.
Okay, so when you find your little jump
on the left side of the run,
we're essentially just going to do
the whole revert thing again,
but we're going to kind of give ourselves
a little pop off our heels when we get there.
Now we need to take our lead shoulder and twist it.
Our lower body will follow,
and naturally you want to get back
to your comfortable way of snowboarding.
So it's going to come around really nice, like trust me.
So I got this little one over here,
I'm going to dip into the trees,
come around, little pop, and it comes around.
I got another one right here,
so I'm going to come down and switch,
pop, comes around nice and easy.
Now I suggest finding little side hits,
little bumps to do it on first,
because they're going to already be turning back
into the run, helping you with that 90 degree turn.
It's kind of cheating.
You're getting a little headstart on it.
Now if you're too scared to do that,
you can on the run in a mellow spot,
go to your heels, jump and do it.
You know, you don't have to do it off the jump,
but you do have to pop off your tail
in order to get air time to do that.
Your other option is to roll up to small park jumps.
Because they're so small,
you don't have to worry too much about like getting wrecked.
But two, it's very simple, you know,
like that whole like start, switch, go a little bit,
and then you can pull yourself around.
So like with this beginner jump,
I don't need a crazy amount of speed.
So I'm going to come down a little bit.
Now I'm going to go switch.
I'm going to come on my toes,
then go to my heels, come around.
Toes, heels, come around.
Once again, naturally, my body wants to come around
because I want to go to my regular position of riding.
That's why this is the easiest trick.
Another spot where you can practice and learn them
are rollers like in this section.
Come up to the apex of the roller, pop, pop.
Now the reason why the half cab 180
is easier than just a front side 180
is you're not landing switch.
You're landing in a position that you're comfortable with
and you can ride away.
So many people try to learn front side 180s,
but they can't ride switch.
So the front side 180, and then they're so scared
and then now they fly off the, ah!
With the switch riding,
we're controlling how long we're uncomfortable.
I'm only going to be uncomfortable for five feet.
And then 180.
The other thing is, as you get more comfortable with it,
you can start jumping off your toes,
which makes it really easy riding on your toes
because it's really natural to jump off of your toes.
So I do majority of my half cabs off the toes
because it's just, it feels so good.
So once you start dialing in the half cab,
try jumping off your toes.
I promise you're probably actually going to like it.
It's going to feel pretty good.
I think you'll be doing off of massive jumps,
getting, make it look steezy, grabbing your tail,
nose, whatever you want to do.
So go out, learn the half cab.
Easiest trick.
You're going to impress all of the people in your family,
everything like that.
And if you really want to impress them,
snag an evolution sticker.
That's one of the most impressive things you can get.
And with that team Uphouse,
thank you so much for shredding with me.
If you guys have any tips for the half cab,
fill them in, anything I missed out.
Also, what's the next trick you would like me to cover?
And as always, thanks for watching.
Keep evolving.
We'll see you guys tomorrow on another video.
It is daily on the channel.
We do do stuff like this.
