FIXING THE ALLOTMENT BEDS / ALLOTMENT GARDENING FOR BEGINNERS

so I brought this drill with me today because this is the one that's fully charged there a spider welcome to another edition of DIY with Emma there's my little thumbnail getting oh God I just missed the flipping bit of wood does this thing go backwards I think it goes backwards hang on good morning guys welcome back to my lot Diaries my name is Emma these are my lot Diaries um I would love you to subscribe to my channel if you're new this is my lovely allotment plots it's been raining all night long it rained really badly um so I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing to be honest I'm inclined to say it's a good thing cuz I I think we need all the rain we can get really some very kind alotment neighbor has sorted out my long pathway going down the side of my plot and they've like cut it all back which is amazing I'm pretty sure it's these guys here so big thank you um to everyone on that plot if you if it was you um but they've done all down here as well so I'm assuming it's you guys um and just yeah just thank you always appreciate that um because I find that bit there so difficult without like a strammer um to sort out so that's really really nice of them um yes so like I said rain lots and lots of rain um I think it's good because everything that's green looks a lot more green after the rain does that make sense like it looked green before but once it's been raining everything looks very very vibrant and green which is a really nice sight really still got the old purple sprouting broccoli here not doing very much certainly not sprouting any broccoli um but again look green and they're alive so I'm just going to leave them to it really see what happens um the child's looking a bit sad and the the spinach there I have to clear that up and tidy at some point um and then down here got all my tulips coming up which is amazing I do think the rain has done something to them because a lot of these look very new like they've just sort of sprung up which is amazing there still a lot of chips on my plot all coming up everywhere so it's going to be really nice I hope my new chips and my new plot come off as well cuz that would be even nicer so the last time I was here I started sort out my wildlife area which is going to be sort of here in the middle of the plots it's a little bit of a a dead space otherwise in the middle cuz we got this lovely tree I don't want to chop too much of this down cuz the birds love it and I love it for like leaf mulch and stuff and but around here you know it would be difficult to grow anything sort of vegetable like so what I'm doing is turning it into a massive sort of Wildlife Area we've already got the little Pond there which is lovely I might expand that but not this year not this year um and then I'm going to Plants and Things around here we're going to have the bird bath and the bird table and and um things like that I don't know lots of planting and stuff I think that' be a really nice project to kind of get on with um over this year really and take my time on it a little bit and make it look beautiful and not rush it do you know what I mean do it properly um and that I can I can get that done while I'm sort growing other vegetables here the garlic is coming up really well now looking beautiful I really think it was only a couple of days ago where I showed you this and it wasn't gr very very tall but now you can see very clearly it's all coming up all looks absolutely fantastic in this bed yeah it's amazing what a bit of rain can do right I'm going to get my tripod out and then I've got something very exciting to show you I think a lot of you are going to be very happy with today's Vlog actually cuz I get a lot of comments about what I'm about to do um a lot of very annoyed and angry comments so you're going to be pleased all right now I do get like mult multiple comments on my channel from people being very very annoyed that I haven't put my raised beds together properly and the ones that have fallen down here I haven't really fixed properly yet you would not believe the amount of comments I get about this so I brought this drill with me today because this is the one that's fully charged um and uh I think it's charged yeah it's charged and we're going to screw our beds together it's the first thing we're going to do and the only reason I'm doing this is because I'm sick of the comments people telling me to do it so you've kicked my B into gear and we're going to do it um did I have screws yes I did what bag of screws let's just go around and just screw everything that can be screwed together let's screw it together that's our first job of the day good morning Einstein thought you might turn up you come to see what I'm up to you come to see what I'm up to what I'm going to do is I'm going to try and screw this thing together yeah oh look you're standing right on it it's got such a habit of standing exactly where I need to be I don't know why he does it that Robin just knows where I need to get to and it's always in the way right we'll start with this one I say not even knowing how to open the bag of screws I can't do it with these gloves too big oh this is why I don't do these jobs I find them very very stressful very fiddly I just want to dig all I want to do is dig and I'm no dig it's all I want to do going right well firstly that's the wrong BL ow what was that get in there like that you stand up straight like that and then you stand up straight what we're going to do is we're going to screw you into there no we're not going to do that it's not working it's not working right I can't do that one so we're going to move on to the next one next one's this one over here hopefully this one will be a bit easier right okay I just don't know how to do this sort of thing I just don't know why doesn't it go right for me right okay you hold still there Einstein you are so annoying you're just in the way just all the time and just stressing me out so much where's the screw gone I've lost the screw now that's your fault Einstein I don't know why just is just is do you want any worms today back off Bird right which way does the bleeding thing have to go oh that way I think it's up it's not going to fall down so it's up as far as I'm concerned that is up now we can stick one in we can stick one in welcome to another another edition of DIY with Emma everyone gets very infuriated when I try and put things together like this but you know I just don't know I feel like I need to do a basic DIY course or something did I even do those that's what I need to do basic DIY course the drill in oh God hey what's up hey look see that won't fall down now right cool let's move on to the new [Music] [Applause] beds go we [Applause] going there a spider bloody hell it's a great big spider there and I tried to pull away and I've I've screwed my glove into it oh god there he is look it's in there oh my gosh the fear my God oh God my heart's pounding I literally physically attached myself to that raised bed just as that spider came absolute nightmare where's Einstein Einstein will eat you it will love you this is just not a job I enjoy can you see why now oh missed it the frustration I just missed the flipping bit of wood does this thing go backwards I think it goes backwards hang on I think it goes backwards if I click it the other way I think it take it out in there and I can put that wood where I want that wood to go oh we'll just we'll move on we'll just move on I can't do this anymore I don't see this as a necessary job why is it necessary why do they need to stand up why can't they just lie down right oh stood up what do you know Joe right now every bed that can be screwed up everything I can screw I've screwed okay I've screwed everything around here everything that you can see has been screwed by me um so I Can't Screw anymore cuz I've been I've been knackered and I don't know what I'm doing anymore you know the beds are sort of up they're not going to immediately imminently fall down anymore you know this one here in particular look at this is up all right it's up that one's up it's up all right it's not great it's not good it's not like perfect it's far from perfect but uh okay what am I going to do today well what I'm going to do is put down some more ground sheet I know the reason is right when I got that original plot over there I decided to leave the back so I cleared the whole plot on the first in the first year and I decided I'll leave the back and I'll deal with that next year well all the weeds grew because I didn't do anything to it it just literally grew weeds everywhere so I know that if I leave any of this at the back here if I don't do anything with this don't put any ground sheet down don't sort out beds or anything it will just turn into weeds you can actually see there are already little green sprigs of weeds coming up everywhere this is not good we don't want this so whether we want to or not we have to finish that this year like before spring basically so I'm going to do it [Music] [Music] now [Music] over the face [Music] today [Music] right so here's how this is looking now with the little um Pathways in and then I've got the three the three raised beds well three raised beds the three beds here growing beds um which should just be in the ground I think in this one I'm going to have a sweet pee te pee that' be quite nice and then we have some salad crops in this one and some sweet corn in that one this home layout might change at some point I don't know I have left Slither at the back to put some corn flowers and Cosmos and stuff in in front of that fence which I think could be quite nice but um yeah this bit of the plot is sort of almost done now I think there are some tricky areas that I'm struggling with a little bit so like this area over here I just move this out the way breaking the fourth wall by seeing the tripod um yeah this area here firstly I'm not sure if it's my plot all the way back there or not um but secondly it's very overgrown and then i s of don't know what to do there do you know what I mean someone said about compost area maybe but the thing is as this area gets so much sun It'll be such a shame to kind of waste it with a compost area and then the other area I'm struggling with so if you see now we can sort of come down here walk down our pathway come through our pathway here this is the other area that I'm struggling with a little bit not entirely sure what to do here do I continue the pathway do I I mean this is all going to become over isn't it this might make a good bed here I could put like a potato bed in there and have just potatoes at the back here or something like that um but yeah can you see how it's just tricky like I've got loads of these like tricky areas but I'm sure I shall figure it out in good time so okay we've sorted the back of the plot now that's really good that's a weight of my mind actually I need some more wood chip I need a lot more wood chip um and I've screwed the beds together there was another job I wanted to do but I don't know if I'm going to have time look how much better that's looking that looks so much better I'm so happy with that oh just fantastic um the other job was I think God what was it why am I [Music] here I yes I remember it was to sort out his little birdhouse thing and and secure it to something properly now I've got my drill here yes that was it I want to put this tree trunp with the ground an angle straight and have it on that yeah so I'm going to dig a hole let dig a hole tree St here let's try it [Music] maybe I can screw some things into the side of it to keep it up a bit more it's very very wonky do you think he'll mind you know what he's lucky he's getting anything to be honest so it you bage you know it's not my problem you know what that is actually very very secure on there now if only the trunk was Secure into the ground eh if only but yeah all right okay so I might have to dig a bigger hole next time but I think that's the general idea that's the general idea of it oh it's quite quirky I like it it's quirky and fun I really like that being on there like that I think it might need some like you know like when you do wood coming out of it like that like a tripod I might do that um or I might dig it in a bit back because there were lots of tree roots there but that looks good doesn't it that looks good and then I just need to figure out a way of attaching this to something someone said about the chair things but they've all gone now someone else has nabbed them so I'm going to have to think of something else to that but yeah that that's looking pretty good you know quite a cute little wildlife area I think I might stick up my I know the drills run out of battery so I can't do that one today I'll have to figure out how to charge the drill um and then we'll have to bring it back cuz this is quite fun actually I have to say it's not my favorite activity drilling cuz I'm not very good at it but um it don't I have got a lot done I do feel quite productive just for having a drill there's my little thumbnail um yeah excellent okay right so we got actually a little bit more done today than I thought I would get done which is really good but I think I'm going to call it a day there cuz I'm a bit knackered and um it's a bit wet and muddy I don't know if I'll be able to come back tomorrow guys cuz it's going to be really really miserable weather and if not then the pumpkin Archway fixing up e thing will be up next week cuz I have to film it next week um but I'm basically going to secure my pumpkin Archway um which is the old poly tunnel frame and show you exactly how I do it and and work
