veth you're saying it with a
lisp I'm saying it with a lisp like
there's a way to have a Lis
ve veth a lot of people will tell you
that they like Indian food but the truth
is Indian food is not as popular in the
US as you might think and with us to
discuss this we got Kai vth in the house
Indian comedian and Chinese comedian as
well at the same time take three got it
right yeah yeah yeah uh Kai you are up
and coming comedian here in New York
City you're half Indian half Chinese
your dad's from India your mom is a
Chinese
American do you know a lot about indan
food I I know quite a bit I know no no
more than you for sure but but you know
what I feel like are your biggest Indian
Stripes you've opened up for Russell
Peters and Hassan Minaj which I would
say allows you to speak on this issue on
Indian food sure yeah thank thank you H
hey I might know more than you think I
know though I think you know more than
me but you I might know more than you
think that I know no Chinese guys in
street we definitely know a lot about
Indian food in New York that's funny
that's true that's true all right so let
me lay the groundwork for this video
guys because I know a lot of people out
there when asked oh do you like Indian
food everybody always says yes I love
Indian food oh my gosh I love naan I
love butter chicken oh no no get it
right garlic naan I love garlic naan I
like chicken Tik Masala and samosas and
that is what most people are referring
to maybe they'll throw in Chutney if
they had a lot of Indian food but I will
tell you this judging by the statistics
based on how many Indians are in America
almost 4.4 indian-americans right 4.4
million indian-americans they are now
the biggest Asian group in America they
only account for 7% of the Asian
restaurants so not a lot what do you
think I think it's cuz we don't have our
Panda Express right you're saying a mass
Market there's no like there's no entry
point to Indian food in America you know
what I mean I'm not saying there needs
to be but I'm saying if we wanted to be
more pular but isn't the isn't the entry
point the Frozen butter chicken at
Trader Joe's that's disgus yo you think
so that's Andrew got seven of them in
the fridge right now you love that I
will throw them out your window yo I
checked I will throw them out of your 20
story window I checked into the river
with Indian Foodies before on it now you
might disagree but I've checked with
other Indians it's not spicy is you're
talking about the one with the flap and
you open it's half rice it's not bad
though it's not bad chicken tick it's
terrible all right well I'm not I can't
I'm not going to convince you and
because he didn't just say oh yeah good
Andrew you have white people taste I
don't know white people taste so you the
so Andrew how could you do this about
these Indians bro this is like so bro
what if what if I was a white guy being
like yo orange chicken 100% no it's
different 100% dude Trader Joe's is way
more off I don't get offend you know
what yeah you're right Trader Jo is very
Indian it depends on where they S one of
the most Indian institutions Indian
people are cooking it they're not no
they are there possibly Indian people
cooking those recipes though or at least
Trader Joe's you think there's Indian
people working in like the back Factory
at Trader Joon no what if an Indian
person came up with the recipe does that
count
sellout I'm just asking questions here
anyways guys so we're here to talk about
how Indian food could potentially even
more popular than it is because judging
by the numbers right there's not that
many Indian restaurants so how come but
interestingly enough we got to say this
I did some research because I found
competing articles so I found some
articles from America that said why
isn't Indian food more popular right but
I found articles from New Zealand
Australia UK Scotland Ireland you know
the British Isles basically that said
that Indian food is the most popular
ethnic food outside of like the native
Western food in those countries
interesting so B basically indan right
behind like shepherd's pie yeah it's
right up there with the Guinness it's
like I'm saying that in those countries
like England Indian food is like the
number one ethnic food but in America it
might be like number seven is it like
real Indian food that they're eating or
is it like Trader Joe's Chicken ticka
stop dissing on Trader Joe's man we got
we got to talk about it like for I'll
make it for you right now I will go
microwave it right now we can taste it
and you can give your honest spe I will
I will do that I will want 100% do that
but end of this video end but I feel
like you're already going to hate it
anyways just all right I like Trader and
I should set a reference point I'm not
anti- Trader Joe's I like Trader Joe's
I've been to Trader Joe's there's one
around here let us know what you guys
think about the Trader Joe's Indian
offerings I I think they're pretty good
it's it's disgusting to me what do you
think about the Indian food you I like
the Trader Joe's Frozen shaolong ball
that's fine I like them too I think
they're great micro wable the one with a
six that's good yeah so we're on the
same Baseline so I'm right what do you
think about the Indian food in England
because some people say that it's even
better than India obviously I'm sure
Indians in India would disagree but I
had uh I knew somebody on the west coast
who was from London moved to America and
this Indian guy from London was
insisting he's like no man I'm telling
you in the UK we've got the best Indian
food in the world it's even better than
India you can put me on camera I'll say
it wait can you do that accent again but
just a little more Indian cuz that
sounded a full British so I didn't
really believe he was he was like third
generation yeah but just I'm not doing
it I'm
not
oh no that was my we have the best
Indian
food there you go that was my riak that
was the Rishi sunak just felt yeah okay
go ahead um no I've been to I've been to
Britain I've been to Britain I've had
the Indian food there it was very good
it was very good what is better about it
in Britain oh I'm not saying it's better
than India no but is it better than
America it's a good question it's it's
definitely well here's the thing in in
Britain was the only time I've ever had
upscale Indian food like we're in New
York now there's some upscale Indian
restaurants like westernized upscale
like it's like a young Indian Chef like
the bear kind of guy like making Indian
food or his twist on it and i' never had
that before but I went to in in Britain
we had that cuz we were on the way to
India and we had and it was really good
you know there's this place in um
Midtown called India accent and it's
owned by British Indians it's called
India accent I'm kind of already against
it yeah that's funny right it's owned by
British Indians that moved to New York
Okay so maybe I'm I good have you been
there I didn't get a chance to go it's
pretty expensive man I thought you said
you knew a lot about Indian food I know
about you know $90 for butter chicken is
a lot man yeah but $5 for a Trader Joe's
one is is is pretty terrible you got to
be thinking butter chicken right now
because of the consequences isn't it
chicken ticka so they have everything
bro all right what do we think about the
ability of Indian food to develop uh a
Panda Express obviously saru is the mall
brand for chicken teriyaki for Japanese
I feel like Koreans and BB go I mean
there's a couple other brands that are
like really trying to break it they kind
of don't have entry points though cuz
it's not like people are all going to
saru like white people don't know saru
the way they know white people know saru
the way they know Panda Express saru is
like a mall brand so it's everywhere oh
interesting I guess all the Westfield
haven't just spent enough time in
Nebraska so in New York there are some
developing Indian fast casual like Panda
Express is there's a spot called day
I've been there there's deep I've been
there deep is also one and you can get
like not I mean it kind of looks like
you know it's like the compartmentalized
tray that you would like put the food on
so I guess like there are some you guys
might know more about Indian food than I
do in New York maybe in New York but I
mean just as we've been here longer but
yeah that's true uh somebody said that
one of the things that's holding back
Indian restaurants from proliferating is
the lack of liquor license possibly due
to any sort of like cultural or
religious Hang-Ups that's going to
prevent the proliferation but you can't
like get lit at like a Panda Express
either but there's a lot of old school
Chinese restaurants that you can't get
lit at like there's spots there's like
Hood Chinese restaurants that sell Like
Liquor well you know what's uh this is a
different conversation slightly but
there's no popular indian-owned bars in
the city like nighlife bars like yes I
see Indians out I see them at other
establishments but it's to my knowledge
there is no like primarily Indian owned
or like brown person like nightclub bar
you know I think that's because all the
Indians in finance just go to a bar and
make it
theirs yeah that's true and I see them a
lot at the Chinese Z Bars cuz I think
they feel comfortable there I have not
been to the Chinese Z Bars we'll go
sometime yeah um this guy said this is
from a Punjabi Chef by the way from
Reddit he said the Indian all the [ __ ]
from Reddit man hey man these are real
opinions you down the sources cuz you
cuz you look for Indian and Chinese op
opinions and there's only one place to
go hey man listen if you weren't here
I'm going to do the accent but since you
know out of respect for you I actually
think it's more disrespectful that you
won't do the accent in front of me but
you would still do the accent if you
were like I'll do no accents that's fine
but if you were like IND spices and
flavors for those with very distinct
paletes the complex flavoring of Indian
food makes it as such and that it
primarily caters to its own people that
was the his opinion you know I'm proud
of you for doing it thank you so
basically this guy just said I would not
encourage person that he has such a the
mixture of all the spices is so distinct
that I will be honest when because you
use the accent I didn't understand a
word you said I didn't I zoned out is it
a decent
accent uh sure buddy
okay um somebody was saying that Indian
food really went to the UK in a
different style that was more authentic
possibly the better chefs were the ones
that were able to go there due to
colonialism
there was
uh this is a similar argument of what
they say about Cantonese food in
Vancouver Canada being the best because
the best chefs from Hong Kong primarily
went to Vancouver Canada because that's
where more of the upper class Hong Kong
have like the ghost towns in Vancouver
like the ghost um you know what I mean
the houses like the people oh no no no
you're talking about just buying it for
the equity balance of the real estate
but not living no but I'm talking about
like like decades ago when when people
were migrating from Hong Kong to uh uh
Canada so a lot of the good chefs went
there do you think that the hundreds of
spices that Indian food is famous and
loved for Indian food is is like famous
for is that also a barrier to entry for
some people who are like maybe I'm used
to Five Spices in my food not 500
totally yeah I mean it's oh well I think
it being about a lot of spices is like a
different thing but I think even just
like level of spiciness is a problem
right like that's why that's why place
is like Trader Jo tone it down to make
it more accessible which is you know and
and delicious and delicious and amazing
accessible yeah but um some people were
talking about how Northern Indian food
it's more meat heavy it's a little bit
less
Tamarind uh for example versus South
Indian foods where you know like your
your dad's Heritage is from it may have
more appeal to a immediate appeal to a
western taste palette agree or disagree
um well it's definitely more popular I
mean I don't know about Tamarind what is
tamarind I don't you don't know what
Tamarind is the orange yeah no like
Tamarind Chutney it's like kind of
fruity yeah I mean by the way my dad
loves doses my dad loves Southern
coconut doses uh from South India and
and Sri Lanka I mean honestly I think a
part of it is like some of the North
Indian food or at least the stuff that's
popular it's like curry in a bowl with a
bread that's like very simple and easy
to understand but like a DOA is like
this weird like big thing it's like
things in like little containers like
that's just like a harder weirder thing
to wrap your head around you know what I
mean the masalas and but but you know
what it is I I feel like I was just
thinking that that even though maybe
there's not a lot of Indian restaurants
given the amount of Indians in America
but everybody's had Curry and Curry
originates from India so that's like you
Indian curry or just Curry c like no the
whole concept of Curry okay even though
Curry is mostly gar technically it's a
Le what are non-indian curries that
people have you never had the Chinese C
you you ever had Japanese Curry no oh no
no there's always all Curry's to if you
call it a curry originates originally
from India if not you know if by way of
like immigrant you know diaspora damn
all Curry comes from India well the con
I should say the concept of Curry comes
from India like Thai people their Curry
definitely comes from the indosphere
like the influence of India across that
water and then like Hong Kong Curry
obviously Japanese Curry actually comes
from the British I I had no idea there
was a such thing as Hong Kong what I'm
trying to say is Trader Jo solid Trader
Joe's is solid that's what I'm saying
what do you think about the heavy
vegetarian dishes mostly in South India
are are you a fan or you're like give me
some meat it's incredible like it's so
it I was just in South India and you
have vegetarian meals there and you
don't even realize it it's not like it
was all vegetarian but you could be it's
so much easier to be vegetarian there
whereas here it's just like a caesar
salad or something right uh there's a
lot of use of mutton yeah m is great
what is mutton I think it's goat I think
I looked it up once and it said it was
female or castre a goat but I don't
think they follow that I think it just
means goat okay um fried things baji
samosas Vada fish
Meats yeah I don't I don't know what
Baja is but some of those other things I
don't know uh have you used of G ghee
ghee which is Indian oil right sure yeah
it's clarified butter yeah um chat
different types of chat yeah chot chot
is interesting I mean chot is like it's
like kind of like dips some but like a
little more street so from your
perspective is there a region of India's
food that you prefer and then also is
there a a region of Indians food that
you think can be more popular and and
blow up yeah so two my answers to these
are the opposite I the one I prefer I
think will not be popular or okay what
do you prefer you got to try Chet food
Chet Chetan it's a place in India it's
in the South it's really spicy it's
known for being really [ __ ] how do you
spell like c c h e t t i
n chicken Chad I see that okay yeah but
there's just a bunch of like naturi
Masala like mutton roast like that's
actually that's that's the place where
we had like the chicken lollipop and GOI
Monon stuff like that out of Roy Paratha
Nan kulta Dosa Italy nuggets nuggets PES
pesaru your Italy what what are you
picking P Pata or Dosa is amazing have
you had P oh so you're not a naan I like
naan I like garlic naan but I prefer p p
is like a layered bread that they fry
it's crazy to see them make it you have
to or very similar SC PC yeah kind of
yeah but it's more layered it's more
complicated they like layer it and then
smos it and then layer is that they they
smack it right they throw it and then
yeah yeah it's it's really comp I made
it once in Chet in India because my
family knew how much I liked it and we
took a trip to ched the one time we
didn't just stay at my Grandma's house
oh okay yeah okay so what's the Indian
food that is just pop I mean it's more
Northern Indian food that would be more
popular I think butter chicken is is
butter chicken and naan is kind of like
our pad tie right like so you're
thinking if there's going to be a Panda
Express for Indian food at that type of
entry point Mass Market Middle America
it's going to be butter chicken and naan
yeah uh yeah I think so I mean it's
probably not going to be goat right the
mutton is going to be tough I think I
had I had mutton liver growing up you
ever have that no mutton liver I might
have had
one time I've had liver before obviously
but not I don't know specifically mutton
mutton liver and it's like spicy and
stuff like that we we were offering
mutton brain growing up like that was
also an option at one of these ChatOn
places I did not have it that's a little
little too far for me I think that Goa
food food from Goa which is a region in
India that used to be a Portuguese
Colony so they have a lot of Portuguese
and a lot of pork there Portuguese
colony in called Goa you guys can look
it up and so uh yeah I just seen a lot
of Goa
restaurants pop up that are obviously
cuz it's more europeanized because it
was a Portuguese Colony so I could I'm
not saying that that's for a second I
forgot that Portugal was in Europe and
not in South America oh that's funny uh
so yeah I I think that that's what I
would look at but yeah I think uh Andrew
ultimately first of all we're going to
have Kai try the the butter chicken but
but what what what is your final
thoughts how can they have a Panda
Express is in going to do it who's going
to do it well listen I think uh
Americans love bread I think naan is a
great bread and I it's like garlic bread
it's like garlic bread I even see uh uh
American brand serving like there's this
brand I just saw a commercial the other
day Stone which makes bread and they
have a non bread that they're trying to
bring to like the M you know like to the
American palet like they want white
people or non Indians to just pick it up
off the bread out be like oh look at
this fluffy flatbread oh this is great
you know cuz it kind of looks like a
pita you're saying in the same way that
like Mexican pasas have or fajita WS
have become more tortilla tortillas yes
have gotten to that point I think that's
what they're hoping for NS right cuz
it's just a bread but if that doesn't
count as Indian enough I think that oh
that's Indian enough sup
supy Chicken Chunks is oh my God that's
the worst way to describe it I've ever
heard supy Chicken Chunks this is what
Trader Joe's has done to you man this is
what trer Jo has done to you is now
you're like soupy chicken ier to it for
that for a reason oh my God I did listen
you didn't let me finish you just got
offended gen
Z get offended you watched me doing
comedy you watched me doing comedy last
week offed that's crazy
super I'm offended as a person not as a
comedian
microwave I'm dreading
this all right all right all right all
right all right here I have
microwaved one of my favorite tra Frozen
Trader Joe's dishes by the way I'm not
saying this is like 10 times better than
Indian restaurants I would never say
that I'm just saying it's decent and I'm
trying to get you to say that is decent
so Kai taste the butter chicken from
Trader Joe's microwav there's basmati
rice there's butter chicken right there
you want me to read the ingredients I'll
read it sure read the ingredient I feel
like this just give us a visual
analyzation real quick man
cuz it looks kind of looks kind of thin
and watery and
uh yeah it doesn't it doesn't look that
garlic ginger butter spices salt spices
cane sugar citric acid would you say
that's so funny that it just that they
just say spices right that is funny for
Indian would you would you say that this
butter chicken needs more butter this
butter chicken I I'm not a chef so I
have no idea just try it just try it and
take a couple bites before you it smells
good from
here it does smell pretty good all right
just
go this is microwave from Frozen try it
with the rice and and and take a couple
bites before you say anything just enjoy
it analyze process okay this is Kai vth
he opened up for Russell Peters Hassan
Minaj the two largest Indian male
comedians probably in the world I would
say arguably or at least from the
America the
americ one more yeah okay yeah Stewie
Chicken Chunks yeah you like it huh
I give it a five out of 10 okay all
right terrible though not terrible not
just the score just describe it just
give us not as bad as I
remembered what's but not as good as
what's in Andrew's
head Fair all right you guys listen if
you guys have any ideas for how Indian
food can enter the game like Panda
Express or or you know anything more
than this Trader Joe's frozen butter
chicken let us know in the comment
section below check out Kai's stuff on
the internet and I just want to thank
Andrew for being so thoughtful as to
microwave one of his own prized butter
chickens we treat our guests with the
utmost respect and service here at the
hot pop Boys Everybody check out Kai's
stuff down below he's a standup comedian
check out his shows around New York City
or wherever else he goes follow him to
be honest I'd say that serving me that
was actually pretty
disrespectful I like to disrespect
people too I think it's funny all right
everybody please uh thank you so much

next time we out
peace
