quite simply AJR 123 sjr 117 simply
requests that Governor iers sent Aid and
resources to the US Mexico border to
assist with immigration
efforts um maybe I should have included
the president in that as well but as a
state legislator this is what I can do
this is pro-immigration that is lawful
and
orderly unlawful and the illegal
immigration hurts legal immigration and
our country as a whole and you guys just
heard a story from the gentleman from
the 32nd about his experience I'm going
to talk a little bit about one that I
had last summer that was quite impactful
for me um a friend and constituent of
mine invited me along for his wife's uh
naturalization ceremony in
Minneapolis um a friend of mine Isaac
him and his wife Monica they own a
appliance store actually in the uh
gentleman from the 93rs district and
he's a very outspoken uh conservative
minded individual so he's got a lot of
opinions on immigration while Isaac met
his wife Monica well he was serving in
the military uh in the Czech actually
what's now the Czech uh but was Czech
Republic so years and years ago Monica's
lived in the US with her husband for
about a decade and it took a little over
nine years for Monica to get her
citizenship going through all the legal
process in the correct way to become a
US C citizen um I'd never gone up to the
immigration office in Minneapolis before
and there was lines and lines of people
that were excited and there for the
ceremony and there was probably about
half as many people in the room as we've
got members in this body but people from
all different backgrounds all different
colors races religion you name it and to
be there with my friend Isaac and his
wife and their two teenage daughters to
actually witness the legal immigration
process work was was quite amazing and
impactful and the tears that the family
had when she actually got her
citizenship and I am all for completely
legal immigration following the process
you know the other sides talked about we
already have a process and procedure in
place they are swamped if you talk to
the customs and the immigration people
that are out there they are tirelessly
working to try and secure our borders
but it's failing the system we have
currently is not working the US is
currently facing a crisis at the
southern border due to Illegal
immigration in December 20123 and I
think one of the other reps already re
uh referenced this but more than 300,000
migrants so essentially the city of
Madison were apprehended in December of
2023 that is the highest month ever
although I should check my numbers
because I don't think it's going down
this problem continues to get worse and
worse cartels and coyotes are profiting
from trafficking women and children
across the border earning tens of
millions of dollars weekly and I know
that was referenced before but you know
I think the gentle lady from the 78th me
mentioned well who requested this I
don't know about you but I'm out talking
to my constituents and this is a real
problem we've got human trafficking in
our districts that is out of control and
if you're not aware of it you're just
not paying attention get out there and
talk to people and see what's going on
this is quite alarming as a father of
four basically all teenage daughters
this is very very concerning what's
going on partially due to the open
border that we have in this country and
then you get into the fenyl epidemic we
have fentel coming across the southern
border this is a real problem this is
not made up this is all we can do as a
state legislature say hey Governor A's
join the other Governors that have
already sent
support US Customs and Border Protection
enforces immigration laws secures the
borders and works tirelessly but like I
said before they are overworked they do
not have the resources
currently States not on the southern
border are even having
issues just this morning I read about an
encampment in New Hampshire how far away
from the southern border do you have to
get for this to be a
problem we need to send resources we
need to
help then you started looking at other
issues obviously recently I can even tie
this to the hospital closure
our public services are getting just
compromised soaked they don't have the
resources this influx of people coming
across our borders is overwhelming our
hospitals our Medical Systems our
schools our
communities you know obviously there's
even Refugee resettlements which that's
completely different than what we're
talking about with this bill but our
communities can't support all this going
on we need better immigration policy
obviously but this is designed this
resolution says hey let's send help
let's join those other states that have
already sent resources our previous
governor I have no doubt would have sent
Resources by now this would have been
dealt with so this is just a simple
resolution saying hey Governor iers send
help this vote should be as easy as one
two3 on this
and who is this who is this resolution
for it's for the people of Wisconsin not
Venezuela not South America it's for the
people all people of Wisconsin so Mr
Speaker the vote on this resolution is
green as a spring day so with that the
vote is
green
