the Department of Public Instruction
supports the teaching of cursives
writing recommending it should be taught
to our in our schools most schools in
Wisconsin still teach young students how
to write in cursive but some have
stopped teaching it this bill would
require cursive writing to be taught in
elementary schools children benefit from
learning how to write in cursive Recent
research on cursive writing shows that
it stimulates mental growth improves
fine motor skills and benefits students
with learning disabilities in particular
dyslexia currently in America almost
half the states have laws that require
cursive writing to be taught to Young
students and that number is growing
notably just a few months ago States as
different as New Hampshire and
California have enacted legis
legislation to require cursive writing
to begin in Elementary School Mr Speaker
this should not be a partisan issue we
all have the same goal for kids in
Wisconsin and that is to get a great
education um Mr Mr Speaker one other
thing occurred to me this morning that
last week I wrote in cursive I wrote
checks out to pay bills also just a week
ago today I read a handwritten message
in cursive on a Valentine's Day card and
I'm happy I could read it thanks to my
teachers who taught me how to do that
the vote is green thank
you
