Can A Pro Surfer Teach Amateurs To Get Barreled In 2 Hours?

This week we're in the Mentawai. Perfect barreling waves behind us. We're the pro surfer and the whole mission is to get barrels. ------- go! Horrifying dude. Are you kidding me? Alright you guys, crazy video this week. We're in the middle of the Mentawai Islands, which are like the best surfing islands in the middle of nowhere in Indonesia. We brought a professional surfer and he's going to teach us how to get barreled and I think it's going to be carnage. I have no doubt that we're going to come out of this with some crazy tubes. I think if today lines up to be the way that it's forecasted, Siggo's boys are going to be tube hounds by the end of this trip. You haven't watched enough of our videos because every single pro says that every single time Allow me to further introduce Tanner. We met Tanner almost two years ago in Portugal and discovered he's a ripping surfer from Southern California that is very familiar with getting barreled. We brought him on the trip because he's incredibly talented at navigating the tube and we knew he'd be essential when it came to tips and pointers that could help us achieve this difficult mission. A bunch of dudes from Oregon that haven't surfed too much to get an actual proper barrel and it's going to happen. I've been barreled maybe once like a tiny bit, maybe a little itty bitty but I don't think any of us have really gotten proper barrels. Everyone's like really excited but also like kind of not saying it but really scared because it's been super big. I've been seeing all these clips on Instagram of the exact same place just like super sharp reef, super gnarly so everyone's kind of like oh I'm ready man until it comes and they're just going to be like ****. We had the most fucked up travel to get here. It was literally like three days, maybe even four days of just craziness. Boats cancelled, super long flights, Max didn't make it but we're finally here now and it's like the most beautiful thing ever. You ready Gibbs? I'm ******* scared dude. I'm so scared. Every single clip I've seen is just the most insane barrel onto like the driest reef ever. Just like actually if you mess up you're done for. Let's go see what's up. That is not lost on me but this is like seeing your dream girl through a glass window and all you can do is look at her and that part's special, that's amazing but you can never introduce yourself. You can never say hello and that part really hurts. That leg's not working. Wow guys look at this place. This might be the most beautiful water I've ever seen. You can see fish straight through it. Wow. Are you kidding me? Alright, first time going to hunt down some waves. Let's see what the Mentawi Islands have to offer us. Oh this little one looks sick. It's pretty big. It's nuts. I think when you get out there it's going to be a lot scarier than it seems. You guys are going to be fine. It's all good. Yeah we've heard this song before. I would say one of the best tips that I have for this wave is find a way to slow down enough. You want to be right on the fine line between the blue water and the foam ball so that you can come out of the barrel but it's always better to be a little bit too deep when you're learning because you might not make it but you're going to understand that timing about how far back you need to be when you see the lip starting to break. It's easier to get speed than it is to shave it off. Especially when you're front side. Coach is going to give us the test run here. It's looking a wee bit sketchy but we're going to go see what we can do here. Woo! Hopefully this gives you some confidence for when you're out there getting freaking shacked. You had a mosquito net and I didn't get bit once. I've been getting destroyed by bugs this whole trip and I don't know how. Horse is the only one who took malaria pills because he's scared of getting malaria and now he's the only single person with mosquito bites. I don't have one. I haven't seen anybody else. I'm in the same room. And Jackson doesn't have one bite either. Dude, they've just been getting strapped in your mosquito net. It ******* hurts man. They're trapped and they get pissed like by the bugs. There was a cloud of mosquitoes all over me. It was actually like 30. But then last night I had a mosquito net and I still got bit everywhere. You're such a ******* bitch. Why me out of everyone? The one guy afraid of the world. I'm not afraid of anything. Give him an itch stash. Don't. I can't itch them. Because then they're going to believe that I'm going to get a staph infection. Dude, you've got to stop running from the world. I have them if I do get a staph infection. What else you got? He just said, does it count for the video? He's just looking for any excuse to quit. I hate to say this. If any of you were on that wave, you would have got so barreled. But at least he didn't bail. I'm proud. I'm super proud of him. At least he didn't pull out. That would have been tragic. Looks like Forrest got a decent wave. It just didn't really line up for him on the way in. I don't know if he'll get another opportunity like he did. Mother Nature just handed Forrest a barrel, and he said, no thank you. We got a set out the back, boys! We got a set coming! Go, Jubu! Go, Forrest! Oh, my God. Forrest is on. Holy ----. No! Are you kidding me? Jubu! What happened, Jay? What just happened? I'm heartbroken! That was the best wave of the day! Forrest caught it, and it rolled him into the most insane barrel ever. And it spit, and it threw so far out, and he jumped and left the wave. He bailed so hard. He bailed so far. Oh, my God. That actually makes me want to cry. Did you guys film the wave? I did. Holy ----! That was the best wave of the entire day we've seen. That was the best. Great wave selection out here, man. He's caught in two insane ones. His first one he rode decent. That one he bailed. That is just a disgrace. Bro, it's barreling so perfect, and he's just swan diving over the barrel. Well, he just went over the falls on, like, a seven-foot wave on the, like, two-foot-deep reef. That was kind of worst case. No success. It was just hard to find it out there. Dude, you should have seen Dubu's two waves. I know. I saw. I saw. I saw. I was on the inside. I watched it barrel onto my head. You guys give me ----, but I did catch two really good, solid waves. You did. Caught two of the most insane waves of the day. Paddling in, yeah. I think you got the best wave of the day that I saw. And that's why I'm completely happy and satisfied. You've left it. You kicked out at the best part of the wave. You did technically surf a wave that barreled super hard. Forrest surfed a barreling wave. Honestly, that made my day a lot better.
