本首分成三個樂章，原本是為二胡、箏與擊樂的作品，作曲家為凸顯一個對比鮮明的探索，描述柔情與力量，雄渾與安寧間氣之移動而改編。本作品原是由加拿大蘭韻中樂團（Orchid Ensemble）委託創作，並在2000年獲得加拿大藝術評議委員會（Canada Council for the Arts）之創作補助。今晚演出版本為2014年配合溫哥華跨文化管絃樂團（Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra）編制而重新改編的版本，擊樂獨奏由加拿大獨奏家Jonathan Bernard擔任。

Written in three movements, this work (originally for erhu, zheng, and percussion) is an exploration of contrasts, moving between tenderness and strength, forcefulness and tranquility. The Orchid Ensemble commissioned this piece in 2000 with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts. This performance is a re-adapted 2014 version that was performed with the Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra. The percussion solo is performed by Canadian Jonathan Bernard.
