The driver facing charges in the San Francisco West Portal car crash has been released from the hospital. Meanwhile, we hear from relatives of an entire family killed for the first time.
We are learning more tonight about the family of four killed in San Francisco in a crash in the West Portal neighborhood over the weekend.
The youngest of the family, a six-month-old baby boy, died at the hospital last night.
Family members say the family was waiting for a bus on their way to the zoo.
The woman behind the wheel who hit the family is no longer in police custody.
KTVU's Alice Wurtz has the latest.
As the scene of the tragedy continues to fill up with flowers, cards, candles and stuffed animals,
investigators are likely determining what charges, if any, are warranted for the driver responsible.
Lynette Thompson is a recently retired firefighter who lives just up the block from the scene.
She shared how sorrowful the community is reading a card that a child left.
This shouldn't have happened, you know. I'm really sorry.
And she's like, I hope you're happy in heaven and that you're all together.
Thompson shared many jumped in to help first responders, including neighbors who are nurses,
and performed CPR on the parents and the children right after the accident.
This was a really tragic event, in my humble opinion.
You know, 78 years old and probably got the pedals mixed up.
The video that was shared with the police from our block, it showed, you know, really screaming down the street and really running, you know.
And that's, that's not on purpose.
The police are investigating this case.
Former prosecutor Michael Cardoza says while many are mourning, others have to be investigating to find out what happened with the driver.
If a crime was committed, the district attorney will be looking at involuntary manslaughter
to see whether it's of the caliber of a felony, which means she could go to state prison,
or is it a misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter?
Many speculate this was just a tragic accident.
Was there something wrong with the car? Did she have a heart attack? Did she have a stroke?
What exactly went on? Did she panic?
They'll also look at her driving history.
None of us know that right now, but that will play an effect.
The attorney for the driver did release a statement saying that his client has been released from the hospital and police custody.
This is a difficult time for her and her family.
We are thankful for the San Francisco District Attorney's Office performing a thorough investigation of the incident,
and we ask for privacy for the family at this time.
Back here at the scene, many people are contributing to the memorial that just keeps growing for the family lost in this tragedy.
