So today we have come to Kamakura and Kamakura is one hour away well approximately one hour away
from Tokyo so it's a great place to come for a day trip but what's best about this place is it
has a lot of street food and that's what we're going to be trying today so let's go!
For transportation if you're going from Tokyo then taking the train would be your best option
and here are the two lines that will take you directly to Kamakura station.
Kamakura is often called the Kyoto of Eastern Japan and has many temples, shrines and beaches
around the area which makes it a very popular tourist destination. However today we will be
focusing on the street food. So when you first exit the station you will see this shrine gate
that leads you to the main shopping street called Komachi street. Here you will find a lot of
interesting shops, restaurants and delicious street food. Now this shop caught my eye so I
decided to go here first. So we are at our first shop and it sells korokke which is basically
fried mashed potatoes and this is a really popular place with the locals and it doesn't just have the
normal like beef one it's got a lot of different other flavors like it's got chocolate, it's got
black sesame, it's got sweet potato, plum. So I'm gonna be getting the chocolate one
and the normal the normal beef one so let's go try that out.
It's popular.
And let's try it to see what it tastes like because it sounds pretty interesting chocolate
and mashed potato. It's really good because it's not as sweet as I thought it would be. I thought
it'd be really sweet but it actually goes really well with the mashed potato which is a weird
combination right like chocolate and savory however it actually tastes pretty good. Okay so let's try
the next one the beef flavor. This is more of a standard flavor with your fried mashed potato.
Okay the beef is probably more more inside so let me take a bigger bite.
It's so good. I think I definitely I definitely like the savory one more
however the chocolate one also goes really well it's a really interesting combination
but this one I like this one more. Next let's go to the shop that's popular for its sushi wrap
and fried tofu.
So this is called inari sushi but it's a little bit different from the normal ones where they
just stuff rice inside the tofu skin. This one it's got like a I think it's a carrot I'm not
quite sure what it is and the skin's actually wrapped around it so it's like a sushi roll.
Let's try it.
The burdock root in the middle gave the inari sushi a crunchy and salty punch to the flavor
which was really good. It's really good it's a good combination. So the next shop we're going
to try is this rice cracker shop behind me and it sells freshly made rice crackers so
they make it right in front of you which is a really cool scene so let's try it and see how
fresh it tastes. You can smell it already it smells really nice. Just got the freshly made
cracker the rice cracker and they make it right in front of you and then they dip it in the
soy sauce and then they put seaweed on it so it's freshly made and it's really hot and it's really
fresh so I've already had half of it but let me try. It's really crunchy so it's much crunchier
than the ones in the packages. Really good. You can also buy the pre-packaged ones for a very
affordable price and take it home. This is the one I wanted to show you guys this is the takoyaki
but it's a little bit different from the normal takoyaki. So the normal takoyaki only has octopus
inside however this shop also puts whitebait which is a type of small fish inside. Now whitebait is
very famous around this area so you will see it in a lot of these shops menus and it was my first
time seeing this in takoyaki so I just had to get it. Let's try one of these and see how it tastes
this is my first time trying the shirasu in takoyaki and it's really hot so be careful if you
can't really eat hot things like me it's not a good idea to eat it in one bite so
it's really good. Now if you get thirsty while you're eating all the street food I recommend
getting a drink from this juice bar that sells really unique drinks. I decided to go with the
lemonade to cool me down in the end. If you come to Kamakura there's a lot of street food you can either
just try a lot of street food and get full from that or you can go to a restaurant because there
are lots of restaurants here as well and eat there but I prefer trying a lot of street food
and getting full from that it's just a lot of fun more variety and you can also see the streets at
the same time. This is seriously so refreshing this is my first time drinking from like one of these
packages. So after eating all these savory foods I think it was finally time to get some sweets
and I came to this popular dango shop that sells a lot of interesting flavors
with their most popular flavor being the cherry blossom flavor.
It's really chewy but it's not too sweet and the flowers have a little sour texture to it
so it makes the tones down the sweetness a little bit. So if you get a little bit full while you're
eating all the street food there's also a lot of things you can do around this area so let me go
show you that now. Every street you turn have interesting shops so try wandering off the main
streets and check out what shops are around. It's also good to come on a weekday because there's
people and it's less crowded. Parallel to the main shopping street there is a path that takes you down
to one of the most famous shrines in Kamakura. There's a few stairs to climb before you get to
the top but once you get to the top you will see this spectacular view. There is also a pond inside
the shrine covered with lots and lots of lotus leaves. I found this one here where people were
throwing money inside for maybe good luck or something so I decided to give it a go.
Another thing you can do is ride the electric railway and see some of the great views it has
to offer and I just love how retro looking this train is. So this train goes in between through
the local areas and I felt like it was part of a Ghibli movie. You can also get a view of the
beaches and the sea in this area so it's a really relaxing ride and if you like anime and are a fan
of slam dunk then you should definitely check out this station and see some familiar scenes.
Last but not least definitely make sure to check out Enoshima station. It has a lot of shopping
streets, good cafes, restaurants and of course beaches. I hope you guys enjoyed seeing all the
street food and the Kamakura and Enoshima area. It is a really nice and peaceful area so I recommend
you to check it out if you're ever in Japan. I've been here I think two to three times now I think
this is my third time since it's so close to Tokyo it makes the perfect day trip and I thought I knew
this area however there's just so many streets every street you turn there is shops there is
just something there so I might have to come back and do a hidden spots video for you guys
but also definitely check out this area during the weekdays because in the weekends there's a lot of
tourists a lot of Japanese coming from all different regions so yeah I hope you enjoyed
the video and I will see you next time. Thank you guys for watching and now you can just see me
playing at the beach by myself hello can you see me so watch my previous video over here
I will put it I will insert it somewhere on that side and let's let's go to the beach let's go to
sand is getting in my shoes oh my gosh sand oh that's a pretty cool sand castle okay let's go to the beach
