This week on a Sunday ride, I cycle from Malang to the easternmost point of Java in 300 kilometers.
We visit the Rainbow Village in Malang, we have the Tumpak Sewu waterfalls all to ourselves
and we witness a magical sunrise at Mount Ijen. So sit back, relax and enjoy the ride.
All right we're back on the bikes and we're leaving Malang. Unfortunately yesterday's sunrise
adventure kind of turned into a fog adventure from the viewpoint above which is one of the
best places to see Mount Bromo. The weather didn't clear up in time and all we could see
was a white wall of fog. Very unfortunate but on the other hand it's mother nature doing its thing
so that's all right. And luckily down below we had some better views of Mount Bromo and the area
which was still great to see. And right now we're making our way out of Malang
towards Bali. We're getting closer and closer but first we're gonna make a stop
at the Tumpak Sewu waterfalls.
However we took a last minute decision to go on one more adventure before leaving this island.
Because the far east region of Java is home to Mount Ijen, a volcano group with the largest acid
lake in the world. And we're gonna climb it just after midnight. We're gonna drive to the entrance
of the park and then start our ascent in the middle of the night and hopefully we can catch
and just before we got into the entrance we got one of these gas masks. The reason for that is
that the air around here can be very toxic. There's a lot of sulfur, also a lot of mining is still
going on and as well there is a blue flame which is being created when the sulfur is being emitted
from the earth and mixes into oxygen it bursts into flames. Let's see if we can find one, not sure
but at least let's go to the crater.
Wow what an amazing adventure that was. Landscapes were simply breathtakingly beautiful.
Really incredible and because of our early start we went back at nine and right now it's ten.
We're back on the bikes, we're cycling to the ferry and onwards we go to Bali.
Next week we are discovering the beautiful underwater world and visit stunning temples
while cycling through the islands of Bali and Lombok.
But that's it for this week and I'll see you in the next one.
