An Early 19th Century Japanese Lacquer Cabinet on Stand introduced by Timothy Langston

#Antique "Let me show you this Japanese Lacquer Cabinet which is one of our Exceptional Discoveries. It was made in the early 19th Century. Profusely decorated with Mount Fuji, cranes flying over, lowlands, a port scene with trading vessels.
Mount Fuji, of course, is a hugely important symbol (and still is to this day) in Japan and regularly features in Japanese fine and decorative arts. The composition of this relates very, very closely to feng shui with the perfect notion of a landscape: mountainous backdrop, lowlands and then water. It's a very positive, flowing, and very happy scene.
Internally, it is fitted with the most wonderful drawers. And the doors: one with a flying eagle above scrolling waves. The other: an eagle perched on rocks again with these swirling waves in silver gilt and various different colours of gold leaf. This cloud formation above beautifully decorated. It really is the most extraordinary piece. And we've mounted it on a stand so that it can be enjoyed free standing because the back is also decorated with this continuous landscape.
And if you'd like a closer look at this wonderful cabinet we'd be delighted to show it to you.
There's always a discovery"
