And I'm going to teach you how to open a bag of chips.
I'm hungry.
I've been hungry for weeks.
You want to start going?
Where are we going?
So today we're going to go hit some tourist spots.
We're going to go first to Mayor Hill, which will have a beautiful view of KL city.
So I want to hit that early in the morning.
Yeah.
Gonna love the view there.
So let's go there first.
And we've got a squad.
Morning.
Ben needed to work, right?
Yeah.
He got his new job.
He's missing out today, huh?
Okay.
So Ben, in Malaysia, we call it Semoga Riziki Dimurakan, which means
hope your wealth can be easily obtained in your new job.
We will send it when he gets on off the flight.
So good morning.
We are out with Melvin, his name is, and his friends.
Headed out on a little 40 kilometer loop out towards some scenic parts.
And there might be even a couple of cheeky little squeezes along the route
and some Strava KOM attempts.
Who knows?
We'll see.
What I do know is it's just after seven o'clock in the morning and it's already 26 degrees.
It is very, very nice, however, to have ditched my bike packing equipment.
Once I tell you at Bukit Tunku attack, that's where you attack and try to get the comm.
If the climb is about one and a half KM, about 8%, 10%, then you get a comm.
Your name will be engraved on Strava, man.
Getting right here.
Yep.
We're getting serious, guys.
I'm giving my camera to, to Francis.
Hello.
Can you get some shots of, uh.
You coming fast?
Uh, 12.
You're crazy.
This is amazing.
Some view up here, Francis.
Just did a full gas effort and then was met by all of these people at the top.
This must be the viewing point in, uh, Kuala Lumpur.
But look over, take me away.
It's an e-bike, right?
What kind of bike is that?
What's that?
What bike is that from?
Who?
It's a track.
Track, uh, e-bike, hidden e-bike.
So that prime minister was ruling the country for almost, I think, 40, 50 years.
Yeah.
He built that twin tower.
Yeah.
Then he took over by another prime minister who ruled the reign for about 10 years.
He built that tower there.
Yeah.
So he's the one, he was the one with the 1MDB scandal.
Wow.
Beautiful Malaysia.
There you go.
Stunning.
More climbs?
There are plenty of climbs.
Uh, we're going to the Royal Palace.
Let's go, la.
When Francis said the 6.30 alarm, I wasn't so keen.
It's worthwhile now.
I set a six o'clock alarm and then I went, snooze for half an hour.
Saw all your little mates on the ground.
When we leave on Monday.
Yeah.
We should get up early like this.
So we don't have to ride in the heat?
Not the heat.
I think it's the traffic.
Yeah, true.
What if we end up like two hours of leaving Kuala Lumpur?
I'm still alive, still alive.
That's a very steep climb later for you as well.
Yeah.
Another one.
I'm top now.
How good, mate?
Very good.
Has to have a tour guide, doesn't it?
Oh, he's so cool.
He's such a nice guy.
He seems to know everyone as well.
Yeah.
I'm guessing the cycling community here is pretty tight, isn't it?
Wow.
Wonder what this is?
Country's Palace.
It's the palace of Malaysian kind of Buckingham Palace.
Oh, okay, okay.
Is that the house we came from?
Yeah, he did.
Yeah.
What's up, mate?
Why you do this to me?
My goodness, 10%, 8%.
Okay, I want to tell you something.
I actually invited Francis and his friends for dim sum.
That's the only thing I want.
And then he said, no, we have to go for a ride.
I need to vlog this ride.
And then, no, Lawrence want to hit some comms.
All comms, comms.
Oh, my goodness.
Let's go for breakfast.
Let us go for dinner.
Yeah, let's go for lunch.
I want to buy food, man.
Not ride.
We can get breakfast soon.
Afterwards, yeah.
The things we do.
The floor is much more comfortable.
My wife say male cyclists take more photos than female cyclists.
Fair one.
Impressive.
On a fold-up bike.
Very steep hill.
So 30K into this morning's ride.
We are headed back into the center of town now.
Feels nice to have done most of the ride by nine o'clock in the morning.
It is also the weekend.
It's a Saturday, which means there's lots and lots of cyclists.
And the roads are actually quite a lot quieter than we've been used to as well.
It's called Dataran Merdeka, which means what?
Freedom Square.
Okay.
Where I think if I'm not wrong, my friends might be wrong.
When we got our independence, this is where they dropped the Union Jack flag.
Okay, okay.
Turn left, turn left.
Ginger sugar.
Yeah.
Brown.
Anticipation, you take so slow.
And it's warm.
It looks like creme brulee.
I'm glad we've done this because I feel as if we would, like,
we would ride past, go, oh, what's that?
And then be too scared to order it.
Oh, for sure.
Thank you so much.
Still, please, four and a half star.
Make it real.
It's toasted bread, toasted light bread with butter and kaya.
Kaya is a coconut jam.
Coconut jam.
Mate, I think you'll like that.
Yeah, it's like a cake.
Crispy cake, crispy cake.
You ate the pandan cake, right?
That's the pandan cake?
Yeah.
It's like what in Canada or Ontario, they have their tower.
Yeah, it's this kind of tower.
It's a radio tower?
Yeah.
Radio tower.
Up there, there was a revolving restaurant.
Yeah?
Yeah.
It closed down.
No.
Bad business, bad food.
Really?
Have you tried durian?
Not yet.
A long time ago, yes.
I can't remember what it was like.
We're reloading the update.
It is deja vu, mate.
Less cars.
Yeah, a lot less cars.
It's crazy.
It's the weekend, isn't it?
We must have come in at a weird time, yeah.
And there you go, just like that.
Back into where we're staying tonight.
Massive shout out for these guys for joining us,
giving up their Saturday morning to show us around town.
Brought you back safely.
You're safe.
You're in one piece.
Almost in one piece.
I don't need to talk to your mom if anything happens.
I'm all good, all good.
My mom would be pretty upset.
That was amazing.
What a tour guide.
Oh man, it was so good.
Thank you so much, mate.
Anytime, Rose.
4.5 out of 5 on TripAdvisor.
You like this, right?
He's just driven all the way back.
You like this, right?
Oh my goodness, I love that so much.
This is pineapple tart.
I mean, you all came all the way here, it's the least I can do.
Do you know, he was sat on the sofa going, I'm hungry.
Yeah, he was like, let's go to the shop when we get there.
Tell me how is it, okay?
I will.
Thank you so much, mate.
No, no, small, so such a small matter.
You guys came all the way down here.
Thank you so much, thank you so much.
Great to meet you.
Oh, I love that.
I love that.
And I didn't...
Now we have lots of things to keep safe.
What are we going to do with all that?
I have panniers, which means I have to carry it.
I don't have any space for anything.
And then you can push me.
Now that's rain.
Oh my God.
To be fair, we timed this trip to miss the monsoon season,
but we've just caught the end of it.
So far, we've been very lucky.
It might be quite nice, it cooled you down.
It says it's dry and sunny.
You want to go out in that?
It says dry and sunny.
I'm still getting wet.
Oh, guys.
It's a river here.
Francis, you ready to get back to it tomorrow?
You sure you want to leave?
Joking aside, yeah.
I really want to be back on the road again.
I think we spent one too many days here.
Yeah.
Even though it's great, awesome city,
I came here to ride my bike.
And I like riding it with bags on.
Big day tomorrow.
I thought it was 120K, it's not, it's 150K.
And then we have to do 100K,
and then it's like 70, 70 or 70, 60 or something.
Tomorrow's going to be big.
But we're going to leave as soon as the sun comes up,
so we can get out of the city, not get stuck in traffic,
and then we'll have a great day.
Catch you then, guys.
