An interactive cultural attraction in northwest China's Xian City has transported some two million visitors back in time since opening last year. Named after a hit Chinese TV series, "The Longest Day in Changan" is a cluster of restaurants, shops, and markets inside a 24,000 square meter abandoned factory, built to resemble the Tang Dynasty. Role-playing actors mingle with the tourists, many of whom rent traditional Hanfu clothing and get their hair and make-up done for social media.

has transported some two million visitors back in time since opening last year.
Named after a hit Chinese TV series, The Longest Day in Chang'an is a cluster of restaurants,
shops and markets inside a 24,000 square meter abandoned factory built to resemble the Tang
dynasty. Role-playing actors mingle with the tourists, many of whom rent traditional Hanfu
clothing and get their hair and makeup done for social media worthy photos.
At this time, the tourists are the leading actors, our NPCs are the supporting actors
and the employees are the extras. It is a kind of immersion into the play.
The Datang Everbright City, another pedestrian mall, is also attracting guests. Theater
productions like Tang Dynasty's Secret Box are staged here, with audience members invited to
participate. Xi'an City's efforts to transform its cultural resources into fashionable tourist
destinations have inspired other cities in the country to do the same.
