Wow man it's already uphill immediately and the wind is cold and it's cutting.
Man it's beating me up quite a bit. It's beautiful though. The moon is just still up over there.
Yeah I think two more kilometers until the top. Looking forward to the view.
Welcome to our new adventure where we attempt to cycle the ultrafasur bikepacking route
created by Logan Watts. We decided to start in Valencia and ride the route in the opposite
direction to the famous port city of Cadiz in the southwest of Spain where 85% of unpaved tracks,
loads of mountainous terrain, picturesque villages and about 1300 kilometers in length
is going to be incredibly scenic but also one of the toughest rides we have ever done.
Headwind. Yeah. Our luck. All right. Hi guys we are here at the beautiful location
for our first camp spot but it's a little bit spiny here but it's always a choice to make.
Do you want to stay in an area like this and we have another option onwards. And here you have
this green blob that Eric was talking about in this huge desolate area. Yeah let's hope it pans out.
It's not super ideal but there is not a lot of spines here so that's
that's kind of perfect. Not too shabby at all. Let's do it. Let's get into it.
First camp spot. Our tent is up. Always a little bit anxious the first night for a big tour.
Yeah. And yeah. You just don't know what kind of place you're in. You always have to feel out the
place and the first night camping is always a little bit exciting. But yeah. What are we going to eat?
We're gonna eat some wine. Wine? We're gonna eat some wine. Do I have a bottle of wine?
What's in your mind? Maybe I have a bottle of wine somewhere hidden.
It would be great. It would be great yeah. Yeah we're gonna make it simple tonight
and have a good night's sleep. Yes. And see you guys tomorrow. See you tomorrow. Yeah. Bye.
If you know us it is still morning. You know what we're looking forward to.
And we're going down to it right now. A beautiful village over there
in between the mountains. And I can already taste it. So let's do it.
Is there also a cafe here? Yes, upstairs in the square. Upstairs?
Of course.
You also need it as much as I do. I think you need it more. I need it so much.
It's ridiculous. To smooth out our love. Yeah, it's necessary love.
What do you think of this place? It's promising to be pretty challenging.
Look at the view guys. It's incredible. It's a little bit of work, quite some headwind,
quite some climbing. But the views really pay off. And I'm so happy to be out in February.
Check the weather. It's just incredible. It's like summer for us. We came from the north
and it was sunny but it was pretty cold. And it's just maximum enjoying. All right, back at it again.
The first days of an extended tour are always about adjusting to the new rhythms.
Finding a place to sleep and sourcing groceries and water with new horizons to greet. Giving that
familiar feeling of a slight fatigue combined with a sense of anticipation of what the road
might has to offer. It's a special experience that never seems to grow old. It's a privilege
to be out enjoying what we love to do most. The freedom to explore and discover the world
at our own pace. All right, we're now here in this beautiful almond orchard. It smells like
honey over there. There are some honey boxes for the bees. They collect the honey right now this
time of year. We're just gonna put up the tent right there. I'm gonna show you guys in the morning
and we're gonna enjoy the evening here. So, see you guys later. Morning. Yeah, good morning.
Morning. Just wanted to show you a little bit here of the beautiful almond trees.
It's just really really gorgeous. Ah, explosion of flavor. Nice to meet the man of the almond field
that we slept next to. He was a very nice guy and it's so nice now that I can speak the language
a little bit. So, we can have a nice conversation. Man, we keep on stopping to check out the area
because it's just so incredibly beautiful here. It really stands out how few people there are.
Actually, everywhere it's just sparsely populated and they take a break in the middle of the day.
So, all the shops close. People are going home, have some lunch, sleep a little bit before they
go to work again. For us that means we have to make the supermarket here before they close
because in some villages they don't even open up anymore in the evening. So,
let's head on and let's find some stuff.
There's a car coming now to open the supermarket for us. We're so happy because this was the only
option actually. Vamos, let's get some groceries. So, we bought some groceries. Luckily this man
he opened the shop for us. It's a bit expensive but we need some food for the coming days.
Yeah, it's with some carrots, some beans, some artichokes, some cauliflower.
We're making our dinner here. We're cutting the onions. We have some lentils and some of those
frozen vegetables we showed you earlier. Man, what a day! Fantastic cycling and we met some
lovely people who helped us out. The landscape is incredible. So, we are really starting our
adventure. Super nice. All right, our dinner is ready and here it is. It's the lentils with the
gherkins and we've got some corn in there and we put some curry spices. That's what we love. So,
I would say let's eat.
Yeah, it's nice. Like a dinner that we kind of threw in a bucket. It's pretty damn good.
Oh yeah, tomorrow. You have to wait till tomorrow because
on the map it looks like a pretty epic place to ride. So, check it out. Thank you for joining
our new adventure. If you want to help us out, don't forget to like, subscribe and hit the bell
and join us next time where things literally crumble down.
