The Australian singer and #songwriter Luke O’Shea is a sixteen-times winner of the Golden Guitar award. This video was taken on 29 April 2024, when he performed The Seekers 1987 hit I am, you are, we are Australians at The Meeting of Two Cultures at #Kurnell, New South Wales. The Meeting of Two Cultures is an annual event organised by the Sutherland Shire Council to acknowledge the impact of the arrival of #Captain James #Cook’s ship Endeavour at Botany Bay in 1770 on the Goorawal and Gweagal people who lived at Kurnell at the time of the arrival. Local descendants of these original inhabitants who witnessed the arrival gave an #Aboriginal perspective of the significance of the 8-day visit, along with a range of demonstrations of Aboriginal cultural rituals. During Cook’s stay in #Botany Bay, his crew collected fresh water as well as Aboriginal artifacts including spears. While the Endeavour was at anchor, one of Cook’s crew died on board from tuberculosis and was ordered by Cook to be buried ashore. This crewman, Forby Sutherland subsequently gave his name to Sutherland Shire. Forby’s grave is marked with a memorial plaque and is acknowledged every year as part of The Meeting of Two Cultures.
It's different sounds and it's different stories of how the bottom line is and we're all Australian.
So join in when you know it.
And for 40,000 years I am Australian
Well I came upon the prison ships bound down by iron chains
I fought the land, I endured the lash and waited on the rains
Well I'm a settler, I'm a farmer's wife on a dry and dusty road
I'm a convict, then a free man, I became Australian
Well I'm the daughter of a digger who sought the mother load
Then the girl became the woman on the dry and dusty road
I'm a child of the depression, I'm the good times when they come
I'm a battler, I'm a digger, I became Australian
Cause we are one, yet we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come, we'll share a dream
And sing with one voice, I am, you are, we are Australian
Well I'm the teller of the stories, I'm the singer of the songs
I am Albert Namajira with a painting of ghostly ghosts
I am Clancy on his horse, I am Ned Kelly on the run
I am the one who walks Matilda, I am Australian
Well I am the hot wind of the desert, I'm the blacks of plains
I'm the mountains, I'm the valleys, I'm the drought and flooding rains
I'm the rock, I'm the sky, I'm the rivers when they run
I am the spirit of this great land, I am Australian
Cause we are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come, we'll share a dream
And sing with one voice, I am, you are, we are Australian
Cause we are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come, we'll share a dream
And sing with one voice, I am, you are, we are Australian
Yes well I am, you are, we are Australian
