Current time 20:30 This is Takamatsu Station in Kagawa Prefecture
Today I was sightseeing around Takamatsu City.
Tonight I will take the sleeper train and return to Tokyo. This is my first time riding a train.
The inside of Takamatsu Station looks like a local city station. I feel a little relieved. The number of passengers per day is around 10,000 people, and it seems to be the largest in Shikoku.Takamatsu
Station has a platform for 9 lines connecting Ehime, Kochi, Tokushima, and Okayama (Honshu). This
time I will board the 21:26 train. It's Sunrise Seto. The boarding area is Platform 9 on the northernmost side.Currently it's
20:54.The train arrived more than 30 minutes ago.It was helpful to be able to rest in the room early. This
time, I was on one of the highest-grade trains on this train called "Single Deluxe". I chose a private room for the train.Actually, I would have preferred a non-smoking seat, but I lost the reservation battle and ended up with a smoking seat. There
are only 6 rooms per car in one train, so I'm sure the battle will be fierce during the busy season.Sunrise
Seto In this case, the A berth is in car number 11. This time, it is seat 24.
This is the accommodation we will be staying at tonight. It looks like a business hotel.
This seems to be air conditioned, but it is showing its age.
Sunrise The Seto-Izumo line began operating in 1998, and is now in its 26th year as the only overnight sleeper train in Japan with regular service. The
rooms are already stocked with disposable slippers, cups, loungewear, etc. After entering the room, the conductor handed me an amenity pouch containing various small items. I
tried sleeping on the bed.
It was a compact single bed similar to the bed on the ferry. I'm 180cm tall, but it's fine for people over 185cm.
It 's almost time for the train to hit the wall.It
leaves Takamatsu Station on time at 21:26 and arrives at the final stop, Tokyo Station, at 07:08 the next morning. It's a journey of 9 hours and 42 minutes, and a distance of 804.7 km
. Takamatsu] -> Sakaide -> Kojima -> Okayama -> Himeji -> Sannomiya -> Osaka -> Shizuoka -> Fuji -> Numazu -> Atami -> Yokohama -> [Tokyo] is the stopping station.This is my
first time riding a sleeper train, and it's a strange feeling. It's sideways amidst the shaking that is typical of trains. By the way
, this part is very noisy. Is it the heating? I also saw information about this, but if anyone knows, please let me know. The
night view of factories along the coast is flowing
by.21:50 It's dark and you can't see clearly, but the train runs over Seto Ohashi Bridge and heads towards Honshu. I'm going to cross. It
's a smoking seat, so there's an ashtray provided, but the room smells more like a mixture of various things than cigarettes.I
finished dinner at Takamatsu Station, so I'll have a light meal
. The ticket was ¥11,650, the express ticket and the A-sleeper ticket were ¥17,080, for a total of ¥28,730.If you
use conventional lines and the Shinkansen, you can get there in just under 20,000 yen and 4 and a half hours. I think it's a valuable experience to have. There
is only one outlet in the room at this location. It can be used up to 1500W, but if you want to use it in bed, you will need an extension cord. After
a while after getting on the train, the conductor will take you to your room and take your ticket. When I come to check it out, I am given an amenity pouch exclusively for single deluxe guests. It contains
towels, shoe polish paper, sanitary bags, tissues, shower caps, shaving foam, shavers, hair ties, cotton swabs, gauze, toothbrushes, Bar soap, shampoo, conditioner, face wash, hair conditioner, lotion,
and a shower card required when using the shower These are exclusive items for A sleeper passengers.I
brought the tools I usually use when sleeping in my car. I didn't
use anything other than a towel and took it home.I put the Listerine I always use in an alcohol-friendly bottle from Daiso, which was very convenient for a multi-day road trip.Although
there is a sink in the room, the water that comes out is It doesn't seem to be for drinking purposes. There is a vending machine in the car, but it seems better to bring water in advance.I'm
going to take a shower.The
key to the room is a 4-digit pin code. There is
a shared vending machine next door. There is a lounge like this, one for each
washbasin and toilet , but no one was there at the time. The
vending machines are small and expensive for water, tea, coffee, carbonated drinks, etc. This
is a shower card vending machine. , Normally you can't use the shower unless you buy a ticket here, and in addition, the number of sales seems to be very small due to the tank capacity. This
time I will be using the A berth, so it is good to have a shower card prepared in advance, but that There would be a fierce competition for everyone else. The
shower was in use, so I waited in the lounge for a while...
It seemed like it was finally empty. There is one shower room for each formation, but it is separate for A sleeper passengers. This is a private room. The
door opens to the changing room, and the inside is quite small. As is the case when using the shower, you need to be careful as it shakes quite a bit.The
changing room is particularly small, but the shower space inside is normal. Body soap and rinse-in shampoo are also always available. If you
insert your card here and read it, you can use the shower for 6 minutes. The
water pressure was quite low, but it was a refreshing shower at a hot spring facility. There are some places where the water pressure is weak to save water, but it's even weaker than that.In addition
, the airflow from the hair dryer is very weak, so women with long hair may have a hard time. When
you're done, press the button here to clean the shower room.
Even though it was a private shower room for A sleeper passengers, it took a while to wait in line.It was 12:30 a.m. right now.Since
this is the A sleeper, the normal B sleeper somehow managed to get a shower card . Even if I put it in, I think I'll have to wait even longer.I
put the changed underwear in a ziplock bag and let the air out. This way, the smell won't leak out. It's
almost 1 a.m.I'm going to go to sleep.5
in the morning. :50 I was able to sleep for 3-4 hours.
I kept the air conditioner on maximum, but it was still hot in the room. I was tired and fell asleep surprisingly quickly. It's nice to be able to lie down completely. I went
on a ferry recently. Maybe I've gotten used to it a bit, so I didn't really notice the shaking while I was sleeping. It's
past 6 o'clock now, and I'm currently driving around Ninomiya-cho, Kanagawa Prefecture, and I'm scheduled to arrive at my final stop, Tokyo Station, in about an hour.
My impressions after staying one night were that it was quite comfortable overall. The smell from the smoking area got used to it after a few hours, so it didn't really bother me.Although
the bed wasn't very thick, it was comfortable. I have back pain, but when I woke up in the morning, I didn't have any particular pain in my back. The
large windows gave me an amazing feeling of openness. It felt so open that I couldn't help but close it every time I stopped at a station
. It was very noisy, but I was able to sleep using earplugs.By
the way, there were no buttons to adjust the volume of the in-car announcement, so I was worried, but I felt that consideration was taken as it was interrupted at night. 07:08
Arrived at the last stop, Tokyo Station. It
was a 800 km trip overnight.Of course, you can travel long distances door to door, so it's very easy.Thank you for
taking care of me overnight.After
this, I walked around Tokyo Station for a while. I'm going to take a walk and go home.If
I have another chance, I'd like to ride the Izumo train.See
you then.
