Hi, my name's Lisa from Pilates by Lisa, and today we're going to be doing face exercises
that focus on lifting, firming, and sculpting through the jaw and neck area. Now, not only
will we be toning, lifting, defining, and releasing the muscles through this area,
but we're also focusing on the anatomy of the jaw with an exercise called mewing. We're focusing
on teeth, tongue, and jaw positioning so that you can not only get extra results, but also breathe
easier, sleep better, and really tone through the jaw. Now, let's get started. We're going to start
with an exercise called the jowl lifter. Take the heels of your hands, press them into the sides of
your face, and open your mouth into a wide O shape. You should be pressing your hands into the
area between the very back of your upper and lower jaw. This strengthens the masseter muscle,
the muscles that allow you to chew and have a large impact on the shape of your jawline.
The pressure from your hands adds that extra bit of resistance to the exercise, helping you to lift,
sculpt, and define the entire jaw area. Now, moving on to the cheek sculptor. So, take your hands
behind your temples and very gently lift your face. Maintain this as you make an O shape with
the mouth, feeling like you're pulling the insides of your cheeks towards one another.
This is a fantastic exercise that focuses on the buccinator muscles, which play an integral role in
your facial anatomy. This will not only help you to define this area, but also really lift,
firm, and sculpt through the cheeks. Maintain that position right throughout. Well done.
We're now moving on to our nasolabial line eraser. So, once again, you're going to take
your hands just behind your temples and very gently lift your face, and then open your mouth
slightly and wrap your upper and lower lips over your teeth. Now, this exercise works the
orbicularis oris muscle. This muscle is attached to the perimeter of the upper and lower lip,
and I've found strengthening this area really helps to not only eliminate the nasolabial lines,
but also lift the border of the lips. We're now going to repeat those three exercises once more.
So, starting with our jaw lifter, take the heels of your hands once again and press them into the
sides of your face between the back end of your upper and lower jaw. Open your mouth into that
wide O-shape and really work on that masseter muscle. Make sure you're applying a nice firm
pressure to really get that resistance working for you. You should be really starting to feel
this by now. And once again, moving on to the cheek sculptor. So, take your hands behind your
temples, very gently lift your face. Maintain this as you make an O-shape with the mouth,
opening nice and wide and pulling those cheeks in towards one another,
defining, lifting and firming through the lower part of the face and also recreating structure
for the cheeks, lifting and firming through that area. Just like the muscles of our body,
the muscles of our face benefit from this strength work. And once again, with our nasolabial line
eraser. So, take your hands just behind your temples and lift your face and then open your
mouth slightly and wrap your upper and lower lips over your teeth. Working that muscle that
surrounds the perimeter of the mouth, lifting the border of the lips and erasing those lines
between the nose and the mouth. Lifting from behind the temple helps to smooth out the face
and eliminate lines as you perform the exercise. We're now moving on to our neck area with the
neck firmer exercise. So, place your bottom teeth in front of your top teeth creating underbite.
Lift your chin towards the ceiling and when you reach the end of your range, pretend you're
kissing the ceiling making a round O-shape. Think about making a duckbill rather than puckering to
smooth out the perimeter of the lip. Repeat that once again and then once you lower down,
you come back to your normal position. Always creating that underbite and then kissing the
ceiling, lengthening through the front of the neck and then lowering back down. Keep that going.
This exercise not only strengthens the more superficial muscles of the neck like the sternocleidomastoid
muscles but also the deeper and more intrinsic layers that will lift and firm under the chin.
Now, moving on to our lateral neck firmer. Place your right fingertips under your left
collarbone and pull down slightly. Turn your head to the right and create that underbite as you lift
your chin to the ceiling. When you reach the end of your range, make that duckbill towards the
ceiling. Keep that going, just repeating it as many times as you can at a nice slow controlled
pace following my speed. This exercise really focuses on strengthening and stretching the
scalene muscles and also the trapezius. Come back to the center and repeat that on the other side.
Place your left fingertips under your right collarbone and pull down slightly. Turn your head
to the left and create that underbite. Then lift your chin to the ceiling and when you reach the
end of your range, make that duckbill. So this is great for not only toning the neck but also
aiding in eliminating tech neck as well. Now to answer previous questions about how to make the
O shape, think about making that duckbill rather than puckering to smooth out the perimeter of the
lip. We're now coming into our lymphatic massage. So bend your middle and index fingers and run them
right along the edge of your jaw and then down the sternocleidomastoid muscles. So this releases
all of the muscles we've been working and also assists in lymphatic drainage. We're moving the
fluid and the toxins towards the drainage points located at the clavicle. This will really help you
to really define the jaw and reveal all that hard work that we've been doing.
Now moving on to mewing, our final exercise. Now to perform mewing, we want to place the
tongue, jaw, everything in the correct position. So we're going to say the letter N out loud and
notice that the tip of your tongue is positioned on your gums right above your teeth. Now make a
letter G sound like this. And notice the middle of your tongue goes up against the hard palate
on the roof of your mouth. Finally say the word ring and notice how the very back of your tongue
now lifts up against the soft palate at the back of your mouth. Now you want your tongue to maintain
all three of these positions. So the tongue is essentially resting along the entire roof of the
mouth. To do this comfortably, swallow until you've created enough suction. The tongue rests comfortably
along the roof of the mouth without too much effort. Make sure your back teeth are gently
touching and the front teeth are slightly in front of the bottom teeth without touching.
Now this is the ideal posture for your jaw. You should maintain this as much as possible
to really get a multitude of benefits including better facial structure, breathing easier and
sleeping better. Thank you so much for watching this video. If you liked it, make sure that you
