It is the highest energy area, with the highest activity, both from a physical and chemical point of view.
It is the area in which the epicenters of earthquakes, of the current seismic phase, are concentrated.
What can be verified are very violent well explosions,
immediately written to the vertices of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology,
denouncing the risks associated with this type of activity.
In particular, the risk, obviously, of explosions, because we are in an area with very high energy,
the risk that the fumarole field would spread and therefore that the air would come out out of control,
given the very high temperatures.
The site was suspended by the mayor of Pozzuoli, Figlioria.
Then there was an intervention by the Vesuvian Observatory,
which detected the chemical composition and the characteristics of this perforation,
which was part of a project for the exploitation of thermal energy, the GeoGrid project.
As soon as I heard about this conference of services, I wrote a document to the INGV,
where I listed all the criticisms.
We are in that area, which is located between the Solfatara and the Oasis VVF of the Astronomers,
the Agnano plain.
It is the area with the highest energy, with the highest activity,
both from a physical and a clinical point of view.
It is the area where the epicenters of earthquakes are concentrated,
of the current seismic phase, those that frequently alert the population.
It is the area with the most probable opening of eruptive pits,
based on all the studies that have been carried out in recent years.
And above all, it has been the area with the most violent eruptions in the last thousands of years,
potentially strongly perturbed by activities of this kind,
from drilling and the exploitation of geothermal energy,
and then these fractures that can actually lead to the propagation of the geothermal field,
as well as recognized by the INGV.
Could there be, continuing to dig at that point, even more serious consequences?
I don't know that they could also affect the seismic phenomena
that we have been witnessing in recent months.
We don't know.
These natural systems are intrinsically unpredictable systems,
because they are complex systems in which there is no proportionality
between the perturbation that we create in the subsurface and the effects that can occur.
On a global level, small perforations have led to great disasters.
Are we wrong if we say that, in doubt, it is better not to go and get involved?
Absolutely not.
In fact, this is the principle of precaution,
to avoid any intervention, any modification of the system,
which tells us that if we are not able to predict the effects of our actions,
we must avoid doing them.
Natural systems, such as the volcanic system,
have deep and substantial unpredictability characteristics.
