We back with another podcast episode.
And today, man, we gotta jump on some of these topics, man.
We gotta find out what players will be on the move,
what players are staying.
Obviously, we have our predictions.
And we try to, again,
we try to keep our predictions a bit more realistic.
Not just looking at the fan side of things
as far as what fans and players might want,
but we also have to look at the business side
of things as well, because at the end of the day,
a lot of the decisions that these teams will be making
with regards to players and player movements
and looking forward towards the future,
it's all gonna be based on money, finances.
Do you wanna pay certain guys?
Are guys gonna command a high salary?
Are you willing to pay those salaries?
So those are some of the things
that we're gonna have to be looking into today
as we evaluate all of the players
that are potentially on the trade block.
Before we get started today,
make sure you guys like, comment, and subscribe.
Hit the notification bell to the video
if you haven't done so already.
Again, closer and closer to 20K.
I'm hoping to edge towards 20K
going into Super Bowl weekend.
That would be the perfect time to hit 20K.
As we get closer to 20K,
when we get to about 19,900 subscribers,
we're just gonna go live.
We're gonna stay live until we hit that 20K threshold.
That's just the best way to do it.
So hopefully that's around Super Bowl weekend.
If it's not, we still gonna keep the same plan,
the same attitude, the same mindset.
Just grinding and growing this channel,
putting content out there daily for you guys,
going live daily.
I know we have a few NBA film study videos
that we haven't put out yet.
Those videos are still coming.
We're still getting those edited,
so I do apologize for the tardiness on those videos.
But today we gotta talk about buying or selling
on the latest NBA trade rumors.
And we just gonna go ahead and start with it.
We're gonna start with the first player.
Again, this is a player
that's just kind of been floating around, Lonzo Ball.
And we have to talk about Lonzo Ball,
but he declined an extension offer by the Pelicans.
He said that this would be his bounce back season,
potentially most improved.
And we're not necessarily seeing that.
Now he just recently had a great 27 point performance
against the Milwaukee Bucks in a win there.
But overall, this team is just not trending
in the right direction.
Now, again, I think a lot of the problems
that this Pelican team has,
one player on that team, and that's Brandon Ingram.
All right, it doesn't favor your young guards,
Anika Alexander Walker.
It doesn't do Lonzo Ball.
The business of the NBA simply mandates
that they don't trade him.
With him declining his deal,
his trade to any team is gonna be based
on his willingness to re-sign with that team.
A lot of teams are not gonna wanna take him on
if he's not willing to commit to them.
How many teams are willing to take that risk?
How many teams are willing to take that risk
on a player who may be disgruntled?
He will be a restricted free agent.
So if he is traded to a team,
that team will have his rights
and they have the opportunity to match any contract
that's offered to him, but will he want to stay?
Does he wanna be a part of the organization?
And when we're talking about Alonzo Ball,
we know that he's a very sensitive player
in the sense that so many factors affect his game,
because he's so high and low.
But when he's high, the highs are really high,
but when he's low, the lows are extremely low.
And I don't think a team wants to trade for him
and then he's stuck low because he doesn't wanna be there.
So that's something that teams
are gonna have to think about
if they're looking to trade for Alonzo Ball.
A lot of teams are inquiring about him,
but a lot of teams are gonna inquire,
but the primary gist of those inquiries
is gonna be about, is this young guy
looking to re-sign with our franchise
and be a long-term piece?
You know, when you talk about Chicago,
LeVar Ball says it all the time, Alonzo's from Cali.
He doesn't wanna be in a cold weather state.
Will he be happy in Chicago?
I don't know.
Are they building towards the future?
No, it looks like they're in a rebuild right now.
With the Knicks, same issue.
I mean, although they look way better defensively
with Tom Thibodeau at the helm,
will Alonzo immediately be able to jump in
and have an instant impact?
I think Alonzo's skillsets best fit
a contending team like the Clippers,
but even when we talk about a team like the Clippers,
do they have the pieces to trade for Alonzo Ball?
Do they have what the Pelicans want?
I don't think they have any pieces or draft picks
that are attractive to the Pelicans,
and we know the Pelicans will potentially
be looking for draft picks.
So there are a lot of questions, I think,
with his situation.
It's easy to say trade, trade, trade,
but I think it's a little bit more complicated
because of the financial situations.
If I had to take my guess,
I would say that Alonzo Ball stays with the Pelicans
throughout the duration of this season,
and he's potentially gonna be traded
in a signing trade over the summer.
All right, next player up.
Next player up is JJ Redick, teammate.
Teammate Alonzo Ball, just so you know,
and we know he's a knockdown sniper,
knockdown shooter, but everyone knows,
everyone knows that his talents are more well-suited,
especially right now at his stage in his career,
for him to be on a competing team.
I mean, the Lakers are looking for
another knockdown shooter.
I think he could help there.
The Clippers obviously could use more floor spacing
if they can find a way to get their shooters to ball more.
There are a lot of teams that can use a knockdown shooter.
I know the Bucs could definitely use
some more floor spacing, any floor spacing
to help Giannis Antetokounmpo out.
So there are a number of contending teams
that are gonna be in the market for JJ Redick.
Again, it's gonna be about the asking price for JJ Redick.
I would assume that the asking price for JJ Redick
is gonna cost draft picks.
It's gonna cost draft picks.
Now, with the Pelicans being under the cap,
maybe they can take on somebody's expiring contract.
Maybe they can take on an expiring contract
and bring in a haul of draft picks
and then dump JJ Redick's contract.
Maybe also Eric Bledsoe's contract.
Come in and where he would be best suited
is a team that he recently played for.
And that's gonna be the Philadelphia 76ers.
If the Sixers can find a way to go deep into the playoffs.
So you keep an eye on JJ Redick.
Again, I definitely did not think he's gonna be
with this team throughout the year,
but only time will tell.
And we'll just kind of have to see where he lands
after the March 25th trade deadline.
All right, next player up is P.J. Tucker for the Rockets.
P.J. Tucker for the Rockets.
It's just a, you know, it's been a little, you know,
this is not a secret that the Rockets
are shopping P.J. Tucker.
But I think they're asking prices too.
They're asking for a first round draft pick.
But really the only teams that are gonna be in the market
for a P.J. Tucker are going to be contending teams.
All right, now P.J. Tucker
is a knockdown corner three point shooter.
And he's a great defender,
can guard multiple positions from the three, four to five.
Sometimes the two, depending on who you have at the two.
He's a great pick and roll defender as well.
I think P.J. Tucker would be perfect on the Brooklyn Nets.
Problem is the Brooklyn Nets
did not have any draft picks to trade.
They have absolutely zero draft picks to trade.
So they have no assets that they could,
I think they would have,
the Brooklyn Nets would have done well
to maybe package a deal
to bring both of these guys over there.
So I don't see him landing in Brooklyn,
but what other teams could use a player of his caliber?
Again, when you're talking about his skill sets
and where they fit most, all right,
we know the Lakers are struggling
at the five, to guard the five position.
They could use a little bit more defense there.
P.J. Tucker would thrive.
LeBron James loves dumping the ball
off the corner three-point shooters.
I think P.J. Tucker would fit in seamlessly with the Lakers.
When you're looking at other teams
where he could potentially fit, maybe the Clippers.
Zubak isn't as dynamic defensively.
He really hasn't been as great
or developed at the rate that we would have hoped.
Serge Ibaka, he's solid,
but I think the Clippers could use a little bit more depth.
Again, it's just gonna be about who's willing
to ante up and pay out the money to bring him in.
And you can't just bring a guy like P.J. Tucker in
and not play him.
So you have to have an immediate need or instant impact.
So again, this is another spot right here
where I'm curious to see what team is willing
to pay a first round draft pick
or two second round draft picks to bring him in.
Because he's a specialist.
He's the type of player,
he's only going to fit in certain systems and situations.
All right, when you're talking about a team
like Golden State, maybe they're interested.
James Wiseman just went down with a broken wrist.
That could happen.
They could use a defensive buffer in there,
but then you'll be stuck with two tweener sized bigs
with Draymond Green and P.J. Tucker in the post.
I think they would still be stopped defensively,
but you still lack size.
So again, questions can be thrown all around
when you talk about these players.
With regards to the money with P.J. Tucker,
his contract is not too astronomically high,
but you would still have to either match salaries
if you're a contending team,
or if you're not a contending team,
you would have to be willing to absorb his salary.
But you can take on his salary
with some additional draft picks that you can recoup.
So he's in a precarious situation.
I don't know if they'll let him,
I don't know if they'll trade him.
They're not in a rush to make this move
because the Rockets are playing great right now.
So they can kind of sit on this trade
and really survey all of the options that they have
because there is no pressing or dire need
for them to make this immediate trade.
They're playing great basketball right now.
They unloaded James Harden's contract.
John Walls is looking solid.
DeMarcus Cousins is surprisingly playing far better
than I expected.
We know Christian Woods is looking like
the most improved player of the year.
So again, if I were the Rockets,
I would just sit, wait till the 11th hour
to see what my best offer is.
If I have a solid offer, I take it.
If I don't, well, it's not gonna really hurt you
to hold on to him.
So PJ Tucker's on the trade block.
My prediction here at FYF Sports
is my prediction is that he does get traded.
It would probably have to be a three-way trade,
but I think he lands on a contending team
with the Rockets giving up a draft pick
to also move him as well,
or taking in the Rockets accepting some draft picks
from a lower team.
All right, next player up,
we have Zach Levine for the Chicago Bulls.
Very peculiar situation that the Bulls have here.
And I've stated this multiple times.
I just don't know the direction of the Bulls.
Are they looking to win now,
maybe eat their way into the playoffs?
Are they looking to develop their young guys?
I don't know.
They have a combination of older veteran guys
with a whole bunch of youthful guys that they have to play.
They're holding on to Thomas Sadoransky.
They're holding on to Zach Levine and Thaddeus Young.
They're holding on to these older guys
as if they're looking to build around these guys
and contend, but then you also have Colby White
and a host of other young guys like Patrick Williams,
Laurie Markkman, that you're also trying to develop.
You can't do both in this NBA.
It does you no good to be around
that eight to 11 seed in the NBA.
You'll just be stuck with a very poor draft pick.
So you can't really get better out the draft
and you're stuck with the same team.
So I think they're gonna have to make a decision quickly
on Zach Levine.
I keep hearing rumors of him finding his way
to Golden State.
I just don't see that happening.
I think Golden State's just kinda set with what they have,
plus they have their two guard of the future
in Klay Thompson.
Klay Thompson's only gonna be out for a year.
He'll be back next year.
I don't see the Warriors trading Klay Thompson.
So I don't see them making a desperation move,
bringing in another temporary two guard
just to fill in Klay Thompson's shoes while he's injured.
I think the Warriors are just gonna ride this wave
and just kinda deal with the ebbs and flows
of these injury bug that they're still trying
to recover from.
But when it comes to the Chicago Bulls,
there are a number of teams where Zach Levine
would fit great with.
When you talk about Dallas,
with Luca being the full-time point guard,
I know Dallas has been dealing with that headache over there
and Tim Hardaway Jr. and his inconsistent play.
They would love to have Zach Levine.
Obviously, the Warriors, in a perfect world,
would love to have him.
I just don't think that's realistic.
The Clippers don't need him.
They have their two and their three.
We know the Hawks were desperately seeking a dynamic wing,
a dynamic two.
Can they maybe put together a package of young guys
to get Zach Levine?
I don't know.
But there are teams out there.
Even when you look at the Hornets,
we know that Terry Rozier could potentially be on the move.
But if you bring in a Terry Rozier,
you're not opening up a starting spot for LaMelo Ball.
So that makes no sense there.
Plus, the Hornets have more pressing needs
at the center spot and forward spot
that they need to shore up as well.
So again, Zach Levine is just a curious case right now.
This is why I say it's just hard to predict
where he may fall.
If I had to make my prediction on Zach Levine,
I'd say that he stays with the Bulls.
I just don't see a trade scenario for most teams,
unless he's going to like a bottom feeder team
like the Knicks.
I just don't see a scenario where teams are going
to mortgage everything that they have to bring him in
at a very critical position, a very critical position.
So again, much love to the Chicago Bulls.
I just wish they would be more point forward
with the direction that they're trying to take this team.
I think with the way they're doing things now,
it's gonna stifle the growth of Kobe White.
We see it stifling the growth of Lloyd Markkman.
It's definitely gonna hurt the growth of Patrick Williams.
All right, and then you'll have disgruntled veterans.
You'll end up having disgruntled veterans
that being disgruntled alone is not gonna do
the young guys any positives as well.
So I think the Bulls really need to make decisions
and come up with some type of structured format
as to how they want to build towards the future.
But as it stands now,
looks like they're going nowhere fast.
But Zach Levine, our prediction
is that he stays with the Bulls.
All right, next up we got Kelly Oubre
for the Golden State Warriors.
Kelly Oubre, aspiring contract.
I mean, ultimately when you really look at it,
the Warriors didn't give up a lot to bring in Kelly Oubre.
They didn't give up too much, all right?
And so to lose him wouldn't necessarily,
or to allow him to finish this season
and walk on his expiring contract
would not necessarily be the worst thing in the world.
Now, because of Kelly Oubre's ability to play defense
and his dynamic style of play,
there are gonna be a lot of teams
looking to bring this guy in,
whether it's through trade
or just potentially signing him
as an off season as a free agent, all right?
But the longer the Warriors hold on to him,
especially with the way he's playing,
he's just losing value.
I do not see the Pelicans pulling a trade.
I don't see the Pelicans pulling a trade for Kelly Oubre.
That made no sense from Kelly Oubre's perspective
or for the Pelicans' perspective
because he'll be a free agent next year.
That means they give away Lonzo
for essentially nothing if Oubre walks, all right?
And so that trade concept,
I knew that was just fake news from the jump
because there were so many different pieces
from both sides that didn't match up,
on top of the fact that Steve Kerr came out and said
that was also fake news.
So Kelly Oubre to the Pelicans just doesn't make sense
business-wise and basketball-wise,
but there are teams out there
that could feel in that position.
And then I think it's Kelly Oubre's versatility
that helps him as well.
So his movement, similar to Lonzo Ball's movement,
is gonna be predicated on if he wants to be
with that particular team.
He's going to be a free agent next year.
Teams are not going to sign off on any trade
for Kelly Oubre if they don't have some type
of handshake deal that he's gonna resign in the summer,
all right, because you'll be giving up something
for nothing if you don't.
So he's in a peculiar situation.
My guess with Kelly Oubre is that he finishes the season out
as a Golden State Warrior.
The Golden State Warriors are known for resigning players
with hometown discounts if they do right by you.
So, I mean, let's just kind of play it by ear
and see what happens with Kelly Oubre.
He can fit in with a lot of teams.
I just think that the Golden State Warriors
are done making moves.
I think they went and been making trades.
They traded for Wiggins and traded for Oubre.
I don't think they're gonna keep having guys on the move,
putting confusion to this roster, no consistency.
I mean, they do have Damian Lee on this bench,
but putting Damian Lee in the starting lineup
doesn't really help the team
because now you have a humongous hole on your bench
that you need to fill as well.
So I don't think he gets traded.
I think if he does get traded,
it would just have to be,
it would have to be for a player that makes sense,
contract-wise and business-wise,
because business-wise,
the business of basketball is telling me right now
that it just doesn't make sense for them to move this guy,
unless they're just trying to save on luxury tax.
But that's Kelly Oubre staying with the Golden State Warriors
as our prediction.
All right, next up, we got Bradley Beal
for the Washington Wizards.
I think this is just a trade that fans wanna see.
I think this just makes good for good fan talk.
Bradley Beal's came out multiple times
and said he wants to be in Washington.
I mean, that's all you really need to say.
When you have a player of that caliber,
he said he wants to be somewhere, then you keep him there.
It does not benefit the Washington Wizards at all
to trade this man.
They get nothing out of it.
There's no, again,
just the same as we saw with the James Harden trade,
unless you're looking to make a trade
addition by subtraction,
then you don't trade a Bradley Beal.
You're not gonna get equal compensation for this man,
on top of the fact that he's stated multiple times
he wants to be in Washington.
Now, fans will say, or you'll have other news outlets
potentially make up fake stories
and say that Bradley Beal's gonna get traded to the Lakers
or the Clippers or all of these teams.
But I want you guys,
when you hear these fake trades and the fake stories,
I want you to go look up these players' salaries.
I want you to go look up the teams
that they say these players may go to.
You know, if you're using the Lakers as an example,
how can the Lakers trade for Bradley Beal
and get equal compensation back?
Are they gonna get Kuzma?
Let's say they take Kuzma and KCP.
Kuzma, KCP, and some draft picks.
Is that worth a Bradley Beal?
No.
Does that do Washington any justice
to make that type of trade?
No.
Do they get better?
No.
Does it set them up better for the future?
No.
When you look at all of these trade scenarios,
you have to look at how it affects both teams.
You know, to run out, run around,
and say, oh, LeBron's gonna make this trade happen.
Well, at the end of the day,
the business of basketball
determines what trades happen or don't happen, not players.
And that's just the truth about this situation right here.
Bradley Beal wants to be in Washington.
He's a superstar in this league, in his own right,
and that he's probably gonna stay in Washington.
To trade him would be a disservice to Washington
and to Bradley Beal.
Just makes no sense, so yeah.
Make sure, and again, when you hear people
come out with these fake news titles
and topics on these players, call them out.
It's easy to call them out when you had a fax.
Facts of the matter is that Bradley Beal
wants to be in Washington.
All right, he's committed long-term,
he's out there playing hard every night.
I think he's leading the league in scoring right now.
All right, he's not showing you any signs of dissent.
He's showing frustration
that the team has got better defensively.
You know, I think Bradley Beal
would like to stay in Washington.
I think him and Russell Westbrook
would both love to see a new coach leading that team,
as would many other fans.
Those are the things you have to really think about
when you're looking at these potential trade scenarios.
And again, there are a few other players on the trade block,
but these were the primary guys
that I felt could potentially get moved.
All of these guys that we talked about
could have impacts on either these teams immediately
or going forward into the future.
You know, if somehow we say the Clippers
are able to finesse a trade and bring in Alonzo Ball,
that will have an instant impact
on the greatness of that team this year.
I would dare say makes them
the overall title favorite to win it all
if they can get that system to work
with Pat Beverly being hurt,
with Reggie Jackson not playing up to par,
making terrible decisions in late game.
The Clippers desperately need
a defensive-minded point guard
that can play-make at a high level.
Pat Beverly's not gonna do that.
Reggie Jackson's not gonna do that.
But the real questions in a lot of these trade scenarios,
it makes sense for the Clippers,
but can the Clippers make it make sense for the Pelicans?
Again, that's the real question.
You know, we can talk about where we would love
to see Bradley Beal play,
but they're gonna have to make it make sense
for the Wizards as well,
along with any other trade that you come with.
So you guys always see when we go live,
make sure you go to TradeNet.com.
TradeNet.com is a great website
that allows you to kind of put trade packages
together yourself based on the business of the NBA.
All right, it'll reject certain trades
because of the money.
And then you can get a slightly more realistic perspective
on what trades will work.
And not just what trades will work,
but how will it benefit each team?
Because that website also does a great job of telling you,
okay, if you trade this player,
this team just got 14 games worse.
So that's what I mean by saying,
make it make sense both ways.
And that's usually the only way trades get done.
It has to make sense both ways.
Hey, but like I said, it's been FYF Sportsman.
It's been another great podcast episode.
Today's episode, again,
buying and selling on the latest trade buzz.
Make sure when we go live,
let us know your thoughts
on what trades should or shouldn't happen.
All right, if you got some more rumors
floating around out there,
let us know at FYF Sports.
We can always chop it up on the live stream panel,
talk about it, and we can get to the root of it.
Is it accurate or is it not?
All right, make sure you're not falling for the fake news.
All right, don't go for the entertainment news.
Go for the real news.
All right.
Other than that, on Super Bowl Sunday,
on Super Bowl Sunday, we're gonna be going live as well.
We're gonna be doing some trivia questions,
trivia questions for prizes.
I mean, we got a multitude of prizes to give away,
like this tile right here.
If you lose your keys,
if you lose your keys or wallet or anything,
you can use gadgets like this tile right here
to locate it on your phone and GPS it.
So again, we're gonna be giving away a lot of prizes
during Super Bowl.
Instant winners.
Once you win, you just provide your mailing address.
We'll ship these prizes out to you.
But that's what we're gonna be doing here too.
But so make sure you come tune in
to our live stream during Super Bowl.
We're gonna be having trivia throughout the entire game
and whoever gets this trivia right is gonna win prizes.
So again, it's just another way for us to give back.
We also got a few mystery box surprises.
We're also gonna be doing a raffle, all right?
Sunday, make sure you guys tune in
because we're gonna be doing a live raffle.
We're gonna be giving prizes away during the live raffle.
But one of the reasons why we're having this raffle
is because we really need to,
we really need to gather the donations
for the FYF Sports Community basketball event.
All right, if we're looking to do this event the right way,
all right, we gotta secure the venue.
All right, we gotta be able to secure the venue
so we can proceed on to other things.
We can't proceed on to jerseys and making T-shirts
or even posters or digital promotions for the event
if we don't have a venue and a certain date locked in.
So as I told y'all, February 18th is the deadline.
We have to have the venue secured.
It's gonna take a $5,000 deposit.
So again, make sure you guys are hitting the Cash App,
donating towards that.
But we are gonna have that raffle.
All right, we're gonna be,
we're still trying to determine what prizes
we're gonna be giving away in that raffle,
but you'll be able to earn raffle tickets.
All right, you can either buy raffle tickets for the drawings
or you can earn raffle tickets
with some of the trivia questions.
So make sure you're tuning in Super Bowl Sunday.
It's gonna be a long live stream,
but we're gonna stick around.
We're gonna go at it.
And hopefully we hit 20K subscribers that day as well.
Hey, but it's FYF Sports, man.
It's been another great podcast episode.
See you guys in tonight's live stream
or whenever we go live again.
But until then, it's FYF Sports.
