This time, I made a little customization to the Atray.I
had been thinking about it for a long time, but the only reason I was worried was about the price, so I decided to do it.That
is this RV window.I replaced a part of the rear of the driver's seat. As the name suggests
, this is an acrylic double window that is often used in RVs.It is a special product that can be installed with an atrai. The
surrounding area is FRP.Based on this, a window is fitted in the center.
Although the outer base part sticks out a little, it doesn't look very noticeable when you actually look at it.However, it
doesn't protrude beyond the width of the car, so there is no problem with vehicle inspection. The
FRP base part has a gel coat finish with black on the outside and white on the inside. The texture looks pretty good.
By removing the two handles, you can open and close the window in two stages. This improves the ventilation capacity, which was a problem with conventional pop-up windows. The
handle also has a locking mechanism.
There is no smoke applied to the window, but the acrylic itself is a little gray, so sunlight is somewhat reduced. Also
, it can be opened to ventilate even in a moderate amount of rain.Conventional windows can be closed even in light rain. There is a screen door on the bottom
and a blackout shade on the top. This is a familiar sight on RVs, but I'm impressed that it can be used on a light vehicle.Of
course, it doesn't interfere with the sliding door at all. There is no problem with opening and closing with the windows open. The
main benefits are improved ventilation and insulation, and simplification of setup and removal, but in my case there were two other good
things.1 The first thing is that until now it was basically black in all directions, making the inside of the car feel very dark.Manufacturer-optional curtains are mostly black,
but just changing to white in one area makes it feel much brighter. It's a modest part, but personally it was a big benefit.
Another thing that made it easier to go in and out during my stay was
that I had to cover my eyes with curtains, so I had to crouch down to go in and out of the room. So this was a bit of a burden.Having to take
the curtains off each time to go in and out was a pain. When viewed from the side, it was behaving a bit suspiciously, which was a source of trouble, but I
replaced it with this one. Now I can go in and out normally even while blindfolded. It's okay if it's a one-day or two-day process, but if it becomes a weekly process, it's a different story.I'm
very satisfied with the conversion.By
the way, this time I went to Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture. We asked a shop called "Stage21", which manufactures and sells aero parts and RVs, to install it for us.With
special permission, we were able to take pictures of the installation process.Easy installation I'll show you how it looks.
First, remove the existing pop-up window. No holes are drilled into the car body. This is the
window itself. At the back, it took three workers to install the FRP base part.
The window that was removed
is usually delivered in simple packaging to take home, but if you don't need it, you can ask us to dispose of it.There
is some gasket left on the window frame, so remove that as well.Because it is coated with butyl. Carefully wipe it clean.Apply
sea carbon bond to the window body.Adhesive
masking to the outside FRP base part was done well, giving a very careful impression overall.Se
carbon bond was applied to the base as well, and it was finally time to attach it to the car body.
All that was left to do was to crimp it from the inside and outside, then secure it with screws from the inside.Everyone
worked with experienced hands, and the installation itself took less than an hour. After that, we waited about an hour for the adhesive to dry to a certain extent before handing it over. The
price is ¥154,000 for the unit + ¥16,500 for labor, for a total of ¥170,500.It is not a mass-produced product, so it costs more, but I think the labor is cheap. To be
honest, at first I thought it was expensive when I looked at the price alone. However, when I saw the actual product and the work done, I felt that the price was completely acceptable, and I thought that the shop was trustworthy.Even
if just one place had a window like this, the level of comfort increased considerably. However, I am currently looking to see if I can replace the rear window with something similar. In
fact, I found one store, but due to supply issues, they refused to allow me to bring in the work. If you have any information, I would appreciate it if you could let me know.First
of all, I'm glad that I was able to install acrylic windows this time. Now I'm looking forward to traveling to various places again in the future.See you then
.
