This off-road training targets advanced riders who have done a few advanced trainings with the Enduro Action Team already. Join me for my very first "Pro" training with the Enduro Action Team and my very first off-road day after more than 6 months of hardly riding at all.
Oh wow!
Oh wow, you have no idea how good that feels.
Wow, I'm so happy I got to do this.
This is awesome.
I'm with the enduro action team in a one day training, it's the professional training
and I will take you along on the ride, give you a bit of impressions about what we're
doing today.
So guys, stay tuned.
So guys, here it is.
That's going to be the bike for me today.
The brand new 2021 1290 Super Adventure R.
What's up my biker friends and welcome back to another video.
I'm back at the enduro action team.
It's a one day training, the professional training.
So they start with beginners training, advanced training and the third tier of training they
offer is the professional training.
Now this is just a one day training.
Most of the things that I've done here were two day events.
Actually, it was pretty good that it was just a one day event because with all the restrictions
that we still have, they were just starting to do events again last weekend.
I mean, there's still a lot of restrictions on accommodation, so you can't find a bread
and breakfast anywhere close to here.
So I had to get here in the morning.
It's a two hour drive and I have to drive back home again so I can participate here.
I thought a lot of participants would actually drop out, but they have six groups today.
There's a lot of people that filled in.
So I'm glad these events are starting off and it is freezing.
It's six degrees and I'm definitely not dressed warm enough and my hands are freezing too.
Anyway, I'm sitting on the brand new 2021 KTM 1290 Super Adventure R.
I'm so psyched to finally get to ride this bike.
And to ride it in its natural habitat, the off-road environment.
So I'm really, really stoked about that.
But, whoa, it is cold.
So anyway, I'm just kind of getting used to the bike.
It does feel a little bit at home.
The suspension feels a lot more plush.
Anyway, we're about to enter the park.
And, ah, traction control is in.
That's annoying.
So, yeah, this is the entry to the park.
So now we're close to the base camp up here in the enduro park.
This is it.
And we'll do a little warm-up and introduction round with five of us here today, plus instructor.
Oh, my hands are cold.
So, guys, we're about to go.
I really love the suspension of this.
It's nice, nice.
So as you can see, it's been pretty dry here.
Very dusty, kind of like it was for most of last year when we were here.
Yeah, I'm a bit rusty, I have to say.
It's going to take a little while to get used to being on loose ground again.
But, you know, these are the first few minutes of a day.
So this exercise is shifting while standing up.
I mean, you can see a lot of this stuff is very, very basic that you start with.
And that's good because most of us, this is the first thing that we did and doing in
the season.
And I think all the trainings, they just start slow so you can get back into your groove
again.
And it combines balancing, slalom and shifting while standing up.
So that's the idea.
And of course, you need to use the friction zone, the three cones, the one cone means
first gear, two cones.
Second gear and three cones means shift into third gear and then down again from two to
one.
That's the idea.
Yeah, and just through that, just kind of warm up to the riding again.
Balance point is awesome on this bike, it really is good.
So upshift.
He told me to put my knees a bit closer to the tank.
I have to remember that.
It's good advice to be a bit closer to the bike.
It's the stuff you forget and it's great when you come here that these guys, you know, someone
actually, you wouldn't notice yourself, you know, and someone just takes a look at it
and just gives you these small little tips.
And I can tell when I'm doing it, it's actually, it's a lot easier to control the bike.
It's a lot more stable that way.
Just kind of push your knee into the tank on these small sort of radius, small speed
turns.
Really good.
Yeah, also the basic stuff like body position, making sure your elbows are out.
Oh, what happened here?
I guess, I guess he bailed.
Happens, happens.
As long as no one gets hurt, it's all good.
Oh, I really have to like, I like this.
I like this 2021 1290 Super Adventure R.
So maybe one of these days I'll get to own one.
But for now, okay, we are at the end of the first sort of section and we're just going
to cruise through the sort of single tracks and then we'll make our way back to the base
camp, get a sip of water.
Oh, it looks like they got a, this is new, the sand pit.
I would assume this is where they do the sand training, which is new for this season.
They offer this.
I suppose after every, all these people after the Adventure Ride competition, there was
the sand pit and a lot of people who are struggling, including me.
It's actually really cool training that they offer.
It gets you a bit more familiar with sand riding, because I'm, I'm certainly not.
So this is kind of what you do here.
You do a few exercises and train and then you just kind of, you know, ride around in
the park a little bit, loosen up, try to apply what you've learned.
And also you get to see this part a little bit.
And it's big.
I mean, they've got 120 hectares, I think.
Oh, this is cool.
We're going to go over there.
Oh, cool.
Guys, now it's going to get interesting.
We're going to do the teeter-totter thing, that snake thing.
I don't know what's going to happen over there and over that bar.
I haven't done any of these things, so it should be interesting.
Stay tuned.
Oh, these things too.
Just kind of going over the bumps.
Okay, this is how, oh, you have to go full circle and then back out again.
Oh, that's going to be interesting.
That wasn't very good.
Oh, this is hard.
Always gets me on the last bit.
It's really annoying.
First time to drop the bike, guys.
This is it.
So, I was saying, the turning radius is bigger.
That was my impression too.
There's no excuse, of course.
You can absolutely make it on a bike like this.
I just have to practice a bit more.
Oh, man.
The better balancing helps, but I still don't get it right.
I don't get why that is.
Oh, I hit my balls.
Ouch.
Oh, that's crazy.
You hit your balls.
Oh, yes.
Oh, man.
Oh, thank you.
Ouch.
I would never have gotten around that.
And then I wanted to jump off, but then the pallets were in the way.
Ouch.
Oh, this pain.
Thank you.
Oh, crazy.
That's good.
Let's see.
It will work out.
But first, it's nice when the pain subsides.
So, guys, I just bailed in those boxes trying to do a tight turn.
I didn't quite make it.
I was trying to jump off the bike.
I hit my private parts.
Actually, just on the bench.
I was trying to get away from the bike, which is probably smart.
You don't want to get crushed between the boxes and the bike.
But that pain.
It's crazy.
So, things aren't going as smoothly as they should.
I've got to practice more.
Okay, guys, teeter-totter time.
It's a bit scary, I have to say.
Okay, it wasn't that bad.
So, teeter-totter, second time.
Easy peasy.
Guys, we're gonna go into drifting now a little bit.
So, power drifting, brake drifting, putting it all together.
Tight corners is actually an important basic,
which I was struggling a little bit.
Also, the circle I was struggling.
I was too much on the brake.
It was too jerky.
I didn't give it enough gas.
So, let's see how I do here.
What?
So, we're about to hit the lunch break.
Last thing we did was try to do the power drift, the brake drifting.
And I'm ready for lunch, guys.
The motocross track that we're doing now.
And it's a lot looser, the sand, than last time,
because it was really hard packed.
Wow, the suspension is such a difference to my bike.
This is amazing.
It's really, really good.
Yes.
Now, it's back to the park.
Single tracks to warm up.
And I think we'll do some hill climbing.
So, we're gonna stay on the single trails here.
Sort of build in some of the hills that they have up and down.
Just gave a quick sort of reminder of what to do.
Body position.
And it's really good that they do this.
You know, you could just go ahead and just go up and down the hill.
But it's good that they give you a reminder,
because chances are, maybe there's a couple things you didn't think of.
I don't know how many times I stalled the bike today.
Probably a lot.
Guys, now it's gonna be cool.
We're gonna hit the field now.
Wow, check this out.
Oh, wow, wow, wow.
Riding in soft conditions, that's gonna be a challenge.
But I think he's gonna give us some instructions on how to do this.
This is, wow, this is a first for me.
I'm a bit scared.
So we can use the entire field, also the green stuff.
And I'm a little scared, I have to say.
It's definitely backwards.
It's a lot easier than I thought it would be.
I'm not sure about the full distance, but the short bit here.
I'm kind of shredding through field like this.
This is so weird.
You don't ever get to do that, legally at least.
But here you can, it's really cool.
And I am a little scared, I have to say.
It feels a little funny when you do it the first time.
It is, you know, I have such a respect for sand.
Let's do it.
Yeehaw!
Oh, wow.
Oh, you have no idea how good that feels.
Wow.
I'm so happy I got to do this.
This is awesome.
Yes, yes, yes, yes.
Yes, yes, yes, the final ride through the field.
How cool is this, guys?
This is, this is the end of the training, almost.
We have maybe one more track left, but this is it.
And we get to ride through the field like this.
Kind of weird, because you can't really see where you're going.
Oh, yeah, thank you very much.
Wow, this is so cool.
Wow.
Wow, I'm through here.
Oh, wow.
Guys, we're making our way back to the base camp.
What an awesome day, what an awesome day.
Guys, we're very close to the end of an amazing day.
This is my first day of off-road riding this year, and I had such a blast.
And the professional training, even though it's just a one-day training,
you get to do a lot of stuff.
There's a lot of riding involved.
You know, and some of the stuff is actually, it's not that easy.
So you, I was definitely pushed to my limits.
The sand part in the very end, that was so awesome, because I'm still,
I am still scared of sand, but this is a huge confidence build to go through the field.
I'm so awesome that they have this good relationship with the farmers,
very close to the enduro action team parks, that they let them do this.
I don't know what to say.
I had an amazing time.
I can't wait to come back here.
Hopefully, it's going to be sometime next month that I get to ride the fear event,
maybe even earlier.
I don't know.
