This building. What is this building? I can go look. I can see. Okay. Wow. What's going on here?
Oh, look what we got here. What is it? Am I in trouble? All right. One, two, three.
Thank you. Welcome to Beer Street.
Oh, we got fruit coming through. Oh, did I get him in trouble?
I'm gonna try to walk into one of these joints. You're gonna eat in Hanoi. This is where you
want to eat. Or at least even just take a walk down this street. Check it out.
Looks like a Vietnamese pizza right there.
And in a lot of this city, the sidewalks are reserved for scooters.
So you're gonna have to walk in this street. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, that is a sidewalk.
Just beyond this gate, it's so much quieter back here.
And I'm getting yelled at by the local here. So, okay. I just want to take a picture. Thank you.
You got to make him earn his keep. What's your name? Jen. Johnny? Jen. Jen.
Yeah, I didn't think it was Johnny. Barefoot vlogger. You're on YouTube.
Oh, watch out for those boxes. They're a doozy. They're not called tuk-tuks here. Oh, we got
people, ladies and gentlemen. We got people. And we got scooters. We got traffic. We know we're in
Hanoi now. Be careful. Oh, he's holding something. Is it money? Money? Whoa, he fell into a hole.
Fell into a hole. Will he get me out? Or will I be stuck in a hole? We're out, ladies and gentlemen.
He did it. My faithful driver, Jen. Jenny. Got a comfortable resting spot for my feet. We got some
kind of patrol vehicle going by. Hello. Police. Uh-oh. We got the water, man. We got the four
bags of whatever. All right. I only get five minutes with my good friend, but he did a great
job. I told him I didn't want to go that far. I just wanted to take a load off. So, mission
accomplished. Massage? Yeah. I could use one of those. Oh, look. It's all got the nice Vietnamese
patterns here above me. Just in case it rains, I'll be safe. And I had a beautiful, beautiful ride
from my good friend. Come and visit when you come to Hanoi. See my friend, Jen. Jen. Jen.
Come see my friend, Jen. Gentlemen, Jen.
Whoa. Watch it. All right. All right. Let me let this guy go. Hello. How are you?
Okay. Okay. No problem. What is it? Oh, yeah. It's good. Okay. Okay. No more. That's fine.
All right. He did a good job. He did a good job. Let me see if I can tip this guy something.
Look at all the tuk-tuks. Everybody's lazy today. Everybody's taking a tuk-tuk.
So, guys, I haven't even shown this to you yet, and it's still early. This place doesn't really
get happening until at night, but there it is. You see the sign for Ta Khen. Old Ta Khen. This is
Dieu Street.
You can see it's exceptionally quiet now, but when this place gets going,
this entire street will be filled with bodies trying to go one way or the other.
But I wanted to show you specifically in the daytime these incredible buildings that are here.
Hey, how are you? I'm good. I got my friend here. He speaks good English,
and he's filling me in on what exactly this Ha Tien Dieu Street is all about. So
is it going to be open? Because the weather's been bad. I heard that sometimes they don't
open it. Is that true? Or what do you think? If I come tonight, it's going to be busy here?
Yeah, tonight. It'll be busy. Yeah, okay. So what? All of this will be filled with people, huh?
That's a yes. I know. I'm not mad. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'll see you here tonight, my friend.
Thank you.
Some of the stuff they have here, guys, in some of these antique shops are pretty incredible.
Probably even relics from the war. Is that stuff original? What's that from?
Is it from the war? It's from the war? The Vietnam War? No, Soviet Russian watches.
No, not the watches. The flashlight. What is that? And the bullet. That's Russian? Really?
How much is it? Something like that. How much for the flashlight? How much?
Look at this thing, guys. Unbelievable. But what's it from? What's it from? War? From war?
Russian war? No. What's it from?
I used Google Translate, guys, to ask him if it was from the Vietnam American War. He said it is,
but he said that it's Russian. So the Russians and the Chinese both supplied arms to the North
Vietnamese as America supplied not only troops but also weaponry to the South Vietnamese.
How much? How much?
Not for sale. Oh, it's not for sale? It's not for sale. Okay, thank you.
Well, I ventured down the alleyways of Saigon. Dare I do it here in Hanoi? Let's take a shot.
Hello. I will get lost here if I wander too far.
It's amazing, though, how misleading they are from the front. You don't realize how far and deep
they go back here. That's not a business, though. That's somebody's house right there,
so I certainly don't want to disturb them. This is all very residential back here.
Anyway, at least we could say we ventured into a Hanoi alley, and it's hard to get lost, really.
All you have to do is listen to the street getting louder or lower if you're walking
further away from it. Here's another one that looks more promising. Let's venture down it
carefully. There are businesses here. Here's a nail place,
spa, restaurant. Smells good in there. Hello. Cheers, my friend. Thank you.
This is to you. It's good?
All right. Thank you. Thank you. I found the people here throughout Vietnam to be very friendly,
even though there is a language barrier. They'll still try their best to talk to you or
show their politeness and their gratitude for you visiting their country and appreciating it.
yourself here, though, guys. It's skinny, and there's a lot of traffic. In between the scooters
coming and going, there's a nice little quiet that settles over until they come running through
again. There's some chicken feet for you. Oh, hello. Just showing everybody your beautiful food.
Thank you. Oh, I mean, yes, I take video. You know, I'm walking down streets that are thin
and very well-traveled, but there's more accidents in this country
when it comes to traffic-related accidents, particularly scooter and pedestrian
accidents, and particularly scooter and pedestrian accidents.
Hey, how are you? Welcome. Nice to see you. Hello from America.
I meet my new friends here. Now she got all shy on me.
This is a beautiful family. They stopped me, and they chatted with me. Mom and dad? Mom and dad.
Great family. Hey, how are you? And the people here are lovely, but, you know,
it's kind of like New York or any other big city where there's people rushing about to get from
place to place, so you have to really watch yourself, especially if you're not familiar
with the area. You have to pay that much more attention. Let me get out of their way here.
Whoa. I don't know if you saw me. I stepped down there to make sure. See what I mean?
Look at this traffic, guys. It's just non-stop on both sides. It's interesting how they have their
scooters parked inside. I've come to the end. That was interesting. Let's find another one.
Guys, you've been giving me a lot of grief over the years about not wearing a helmet
when I'm riding my e-bikes. Well, guess what? Not only did I buy a helmet,
I bought an authentic helmet here in Vietnam, Hanoi to be specific, and I have my new friends
home and home, and this is their store. And guys, look at this helmet that I bought.
I'm going to demonstrate for you now. If anybody knows about helmets, it's the good people of
Vietnam because they basically invented the thing. So I hope you guys like it, and I hope that when
you're in Hanoi, you'll come and visit their store. What's the name of your store? The name
of the store? No, no. Hold on. I'll show you guys. Let me show everybody. Right here, it's called
I'm sure I'm not pronouncing it correctly, but I'm all set with a helmet. Thanks for my good
friend. Hold on. Hold on. So guys, come and get your helmets. I'll see you here.
He's a perfect example, guys, of the French colonial architecture that still remains here
in Hanoi. Hello, my friend. I'm a YouTuber from America. My name is Terry, Barefoot Vlogger on
YouTube. Do you speak any English? A little English? No. This building. What is this building?
I can go look. I can see. Okay. Wow. Thank you. Oh, well, it looks like they're getting ready to
retile the place. Cambo Chien Se Dai Doi 6. French colonial. French colonial. Yeah.
Very nice. Can I can I go look? No, no, no. Go just here. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Just look here. Okay.
No problem. No problem. You could still see the balcony there. At one time, this must have been all
beautiful place. I don't know if it was a hotel, maybe back in the day. So hello. Okay. Come on.
Thank you so much. What's going on here? An outdoors park party. I love it.
How are you guys? Nice to see you. Oh, look what we got here. What is it? Am I in trouble?
Oh, it's just uh...
What do we say? Yo?
I have no clue what this is, but I'm sure these guys wouldn't let me down.
Yo, yo, yo, yo, Adrian. It's me, Rocky.
Oh, I drank too fast? Wow.
Oh, yeah, baby. I can taste the steak in it already. Very good. Very good.
I'm in trouble. Here we go. You know what it tastes like? It tastes like
gasoline. No, it's good. It's good. Ready? One, two, three.
USA. Vietnam.
I'm in trouble now. I asked for it. Yeah. Here's some beautiful ladies.
Yeah.
Beautiful. Thank you, guys. Thank you. What is this? Oh, my God.
Okay.
Thank you. Come on.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you so much. So kind. All right. All right. Let's go. You come
home with me. No, no, no. Hey, hey, hey. You put it in there. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you so
much. So kind. That was fun, guys. You see what I mean? You see how they opened their hearts to me
and poured that rat gut down my throat? Wow. Actually, it was pretty good. It was similar to
the raki that I had in Greece. This might actually taste a little better.
We're having fun on a rainy night in Hanoi. So this young lady, this is her bar, right? This
is your bar. She works. Are you the owner or are you working? She's the owner of this bar,
guys, on Beer Street. She asked me if I was American. Of course, I am. And you've been to
America. Where? California. California. Arizona. Arizona. So the west coast of
USA. Did you like it? Of course. I'm happy. Yeah. Of course. Good. And I like Vietnam,
of course. What is your name? My name is Vy. Vy? Yeah. Very easy to remember. Guys,
come see Vy here. What's the name of your bar? Babylon, yes. Babylon. Yeah. Okay. Vy,
explain to me Beer Street. How does it work? Where does it start, really, at that corner?
Yeah, first night time, yes. So I think it's 6 p.m., after 6 p.m., yes. Ah, okay. We're gonna
come back here. We're gonna visit Vy and we're gonna have a beer right here on authentic Beer
Street. Okay, guys. Night has fallen on Hanoi. I am braving this cold weather. I'm also braving
these speeders and traffic. I'm making my way over here to Hà Tiên to see it at night in full
I much prefer this. Even though it's more crowded, I think it's pretty cool.
It's more crowded also because there's more people in less area.
To Saigon, you have yet to see Walking Street because, to me, this is like more camaraderie.
It's less of the dancing, disco-y, go-go girl kind of thing. Loud music blaring. There is
definitely loud music here. It's less chaotic to me and more festive, you know. I definitely
prefer the vibe here to the Walking Street in Saigon. Oh, wow, that food looks good. You can
eat out here, too. Look at that. That looks great. I got to do my video. I come back, okay.
Oh, this guy's really, really hands-on, man. What you got?
There's my man. Oh, yeah? All right. Remember him.
You heard it here first from him. All right, my friend. Thank you. Yes, yes. I'm going to walk
back and forth. I'm going to walk back and forth. Thank you. So they have their hawkers out here
That's good stuff, huh? All right. Yeah, you can see people eating here in a pretty active spot.
The food looks great. By the way, I had one of those yesterday. It was really good.
Good food here. Good vibes. Ice-cold beer. And it's still early, guys. This will fill up.
Oh, remember me? I remember you from earlier. I'm taking the video now. I'm taking the video.
We got balloons, ladies and gentlemen. We got balloons. Hey, there they are.
Where are you guys from? England. Oh, they speak my language. They speak my language.
UK in the house. Well, guess what? I'm from America, as if you couldn't tell.
And the name of my town that I grew up in is Brighton. Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, New York.
Named after Brighton, England. Cheers to that. I know. I gotta get a beer. So,
thank you for being so kind and chatting. Have fun, ladies. Be careful. Thank you.
Oh, we got fruit coming through. The fruit cart. Make way. Good stuff, huh?
It's packed in. So crowded here. Between both sides. You know, not much bigger than an alleyway.
So, you basically have to walk through here at its busiest point, single file.
Yes, I said. There they are. There's my guys. Oh, here comes the fruit again.
And you know what it reminds me of, actually, is Train Street. It's kind of like that. It's not
much, it's not much wider than Train Street. So, this is the end here, guys.
I'm gonna turn the camera off now and just do some walking around here on my own.
And give it some time and see if it fills up even more and walk back,
all right? Let's see if it gets even more crowded on my walk back.
Guys, I tell you what. I am not used to the cold weather anymore. I am so chilled to the bone
that I literally, you know I'm not a coffee guy, I came into this little cafe and coffee ain't
exactly that easy to find in this town. Not hot coffee, anyway. So, I decided to come in here
and they have latte. So, I'm gonna get myself a latte.
You didn't think you'd see me cheersing you with coffee, did you? Look at this brownie I got.
Oh, there goes the waistline, barefoot.
Need sugar. Okay, guys. I ended up circling around. I had coffee. So, I ended up circling
around. So, I came back to where I started. So, I'm not gonna start from where I ended.
We're gonna see it again. It's definitely filling up here. You know, what's going on? What do we got?
We got some friends here, ladies and gentlemen. Say hello to YouTube in America.
Who we got? What's your name?
Yeah, and you like Beer Street?
Oh, yeah? That's the way to go. Oh, really? Boston? Boston, Massachusetts? Really? Go Bruins.
I don't know about those Patriots, though. What's he? Hold on. He's showing me exactly.
Oh, that's your place? Oh, really? Are these guys hawkers? They're trying to...
Oh, look at that. We got famous people here. Oh, did I get them in trouble?
All right. I'll see you guys over there.
There it is.
Everybody's filing in. See what I said before, guys, about it being single file.
People just keep coming. It's like a human chain here.
This is fun, guys. And at least, you know what? It's chilly,
but it's not raining. It's clear, so it's perfect.
Oh, break out the hookahs. Look at this. People are gonna sit here, and I'm bent over.
I got yelled at for taking videos. I don't know if it's a go-go bar.
I don't think so. It's much more tame.
Well, have you been to Saigon's Walking Street? It's tame. Trust me.
It's tame. It's great, actually. I like the vibe. Have fun, ladies.
Thank you.
It's a sausage fest. Honestly, guys, this is pretty fun.
I could do this walk back and forth for a while.
Oh, my God. They get real pushy.
It's too damn cold for beer. Give me some hot cocoa, man.
Speaking of sausage fest.
A lot of guys at that bar.
In a little bit.
What's this place? Hold on. I'm gonna try to walk in here.
Don't get hit by a table or fruit.
They're slinging everything around here.
Guys, that's Beer Street. This has been Hanoi. This has been Vietnam.
And this has been an epic Southeast Asian adventure.
I hope you enjoyed my travels throughout Thailand and Vietnam.
I want to thank all of the people of these two great countries.
And I want to thank all of you for watching, especially all of my Patreons
for the contributions that helped make this possible.
Till next time, from Beer Street in Hanoi with my new friend in Vietnam.
This is the Bear from Flavia saying stay well, stay tuned, and remember,
life is all about the experiences.
What are you waiting for? Go out and get yours.
Take care, guys. I'll see you in Boca.
What's your name?
You come to America with me? Come on, we go to America.
Let's go.
