hey guys welcome back to my lopment
channel so this is the first time that
I'm walking to my lopment plot since
planting out all of my pumpkins and
squashes oh look at that spiderweb what
do I do what do I
do why did they do that right in my path
they know I'm coming here they just know
this is the first time I'm walking here
since planting the out I'm absolutely
terrified that I'm going to find nothing
here oh gosh please be some pumpkins
left please please I think I can see
some
plants think I can see some
plants okay so the fact that these ones
are alive and they're not really that
protected is a good
sign these ones seem to be alive as well
but they are kind of hidden within a
load of weeds that was a secret plan
secret plan to hide them all within some
weeds so that the Slugs and snails got
confused I don't know if you can confuse
them fly on
me animals are just attracted to me I
don't know why I really don't know why
um right we're going to go over and see
if they're alive I film it through my
eyes here I am except that you you're
probably seeing is clearer cuz I haven't
got my glasses on so I have to get quite
close to see oh
yes yes it looks like they're alive
they're all alive oh my goodness they're
all alive not just alive I mean thriving
look at that he is happy happy happy
yeah all of them still alive it's only
been 2 days but I'm happy is it me or is
he looking a little bit yellowy I think
he's looking a bit yellowy I know his
new leaves are quite green I might feed
them then I might give them a good old
feed I think I'll give them their first
feed today cuz they have been cooped up
in those little pots for a very long
time are the sunflowers still alive I
can't believe it they're still alive
alive and thriving I want to say look
how big they are fantastic and then this
one is also still alive what is
happening what is going on there has
been a little bit of slug damage has
been a little bit but not enough I think
that the entire plant is dead yet I mean
to be honest I did sort of think a
couple might die um I think they're
still okay
I am shocked I'm in a State of Shock
right now I the amount of slugs that
we've had this year in snails and
everybody in the plot just moaning about
them and not moaning but you know being
upset about them as I am as well um I
really just thought they'd all be dead
but lo and behold they're all alive so I
did bring some more plants with me today
because I was feeling a little bit
confident after last time I came here um
I've got some beans and I got some more
sunflowers it's all alive I mean the
reason why how how you doing by the way
Hello nice to see you again I just sort
of got straight into it today cuz I was
just feeling so stressed and anxious
when I got here I really wanted to just
go straight to the pumpkins and but now
that I know they're okay how are you all
hope you're having a lovely gardening
week hope you have some nice plans for
the weekend um the weather is sort of
holding up a little bit it's not bright
Sunshine but um the temperature hasn't
really dropped so we're sort of in the
192° kind of level which is really nice
actually and also no rain over the last
few days which might have something to
do with why the pumpkins have survived
anyway the allotment is looking really
good today I think I've got a few jobs
so I've got some things to plant out um
I want to check on a few things do a
little bit weeding and then obviously
first job is to feed the pumpkins so
let's do that first
[Music]
right so I'm going to use a liquid
tomato feed I think liquid seaweed is
probably my favorite thing to put onto
pumpkins but I don't have any so I'm
going to have to get
some going to give a little Swig in
there I think this will do the job just
as well to be honest until I get some
more seaweed oh God
[Music]
right what have I what goodies have I
brought with me today in an M&S
bag I always bring like the most
craziest like carrier bag and nobody
ever comments on it but I wonder if
that's because everybody brings their
plants in just whatever sort of paper
bag you can find at
home right so I've got sunflowers in
here and these all been sewn from seed a
little while ago been sitting in my
little mini Botanical compact Greenhouse
thing at home and um these are like a um
a smaller variety so like a a miniature
variety I want to say I actually can't
remember what they are cuz didn't label
them but I did that on purpose I
actually did that on purpose this time
it was a conscious decision not to label
them because um I know that these are
the dwarf ones and they're all different
varieties so you can see this has got
darker leaves in the middle that's like
lighter so they are different but it's
like pick AIX sunflowers pick AIX
sunflowers that's my idea the thing is I
just want sunflowers I know they're all
a smaller variety so I was just going to
sort of dot them all together have like
a little yeah just a surprise basically
I also have got I planted these beans
these are the same beans that I planted
up this Archway they are the purple
french beans the climbing French beans
the purple ones but I've sewn them at
home in modules they were so heavy in in
like the whole the whole thing was too
heavy so what I've done is I've
just I've just sort of pulled them out
the module and brought them like that
they're so big they're so long so these
need to go out straight away also really
annoyingly they were doing so well they
were doing literally so well and they've
got their first bit of slug damage from
last night which is so annoying and it
was I thought it was like a sign to get
them out today um because it's the first
time they've been attacked by anything
by anything so let's get them uh in the
ground they're going to go on this Arch
Ray which is supposed to be my bean Arch
Ray this year but has sort of turned
into an accidental overspill of the
squash and pumpkin Archway unless I
planted cett there in which case it' be
a cette Archway which I don't think work
but hey
ho right
so you might think there's quite a lot
going up this Archway but um I am s
taking advice from that Amy on Instagram
who grows a lot up her archways like so
much and it doesn't seem to be a problem
so I'm just going to keep whacking as
much stuff on as I
can really
look how tall that one is already look I
just like brought a makeshift Archway
it's
amazing you probably won't be able to
see what I'm doing here but I'm just
sort of trying to push things out the
way just get another Bean
in let's get another one in the thing is
is Amy on her Instagram she has quite a
small garden so she sort of has to pack
it all in but her archways are
incredible every year and the plants
they just kind of cope I don't know if
maybe the plants just kind of enjoy the
competition that they find themselves in
maybe it just gives them a bit of
excitement in their slightly dull lives
you know I don't I don't really know but
whatever the reason they do do quite
well definitely snap that one that's
really annoying cuz he's really tall
[Music]
so as I've been busy at this Archway
planting those in I have noticed there's
quite a bit of borage coming up now um
borage is a lovely flour you can buy the
seeds for it once you buy one pack of
seeds you'll never need to Reed it again
in your life because it self seeds
itself all around the garden um and
you're essentially what what I'm going
to do is dig the small plants up and
redistribute them where I want them to
grow cuz they are a bit weedy they do
kind of come up wherever they want um
and they do grow very very quickly when
they get going so that's that's why I
sort of see them as a little bit weedy
but fabulous plants pollinators love
borage um and you can eat it as well you
can actually eat the flowers for
instance this borage here right in the
middle isn't really going to do much
good there's another one there it's
going to get big they're big plants so I
need to sort of move them about I've got
another one here actually that one can
stay you can
stay um got one over there I think that
one can stay right so that's borage just
there what we going to
do dig him
up coming with me
mate it's a bit there too this is too
close to the archway so that's going to
have to come
up yeah
right so I just got to think about where
I'm going to put these sunflowers and I
think the borage should be nice around
them as well so should they go on the
new alotment feel like somewhere on my
old one would be
better what have I got growing over here
charred but it's
flowering so this won't last forever if
this is flowering then so maybe it
should go in this bed my Chard is
flowering I think a lot of people's
Chard is flowering this year because I
think it was just the temperatures and
stuff it's just not worked for chard um
very very beautiful crop and I really
like it but I reckon some sunflowers
along
[Music]
here this feels like a little bit of a
risk than going here I don't know why I
think maybe because of all the Slugs and
snails but then at the same time I think
the
Hedgehog is eating them
cuz they all seem to be empty
shells you know what we'll find out
[Music]
right let's stick the borage on my new
alotment plot because I don't think I
have any coming up naturally yet so if I
plant a little bit I reckon it'll just
come up every year I'm going to put it
in my little Wildlife Area over here
Wildlife like wild planted area um with
the tree stump and the apple tree just
in here I think so this is the apple
tree is there and then we got this
awkward sort of tree tree stump and then
I've got Salvia and the two um lavenders
growing there and lots of spring bulbs
are already under the ground in there
and I'm just going to start like trying
to plant things that look pretty so that
it doesn't just get covered in Weeds
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
right well it doesn't look very much
like right now maybe it won't become
very much ever but the point is it's in
there the Salvia is doing
absolutely beautifully it's just loving
life in here and I'm loving the colors
as well so I think I'm going to I'm
going to go for more perennial
sort of um what's it habous perennial
flowers and then the lavender is doing
really well it's loving life in here the
other lavender I moved and that's doing
really well now as well um but yeah I'm
going to build up lots of lovely flowers
here it's very much looking like it's
going to rain they did not say it would
rain today but it's it looks like it's
going to rain and that stresses me out
because rain equals slugs that's all
equals in my head now I would rather I
would rather have it really hot and
scorching sun and have to water twice a
day every day than to have rain right
now um when I've just planted out all
this new stuff so anyway there's one
more thing that I want to plant out
before I go spring onions I don't feel
like I've had much luck with them uh
this year and usually they're very easy
to grow um this is the red toga ones I'm
going to plant in between my onion sets
obviously the cauliflower I planted in
between here was all eaten it was a bit
of an experiment because somebody said
that slugs don't like um onions and so
planting things in between onions
disguises a smell blah blah blah
unfortunately they've eaten all the
onions as well so that's just really not
worked
[Music]
yeah it feels nice to keep getting stuff
in the ground and utilizing as much
space as I can before I go I just want
to say something to you so we're halfway
through the year now it's June can't
believe it myself I know insane but I
know that a lot of us have had so much
trouble this year with slugs and snails
and the terrible spring that we had in
the wet weather and the
cold and I just want to say hang in
there if you can um it might be that
your allotment is not going to thrive
the way that you thought it would in
your head this year you might not get
half the amount of crops that you
thought you were going to that you hoped
you would and you know what sometimes
that is just the way it is in my 5 years
of having an allotment plot this has
been the worst year um in terms of the
weather in terms of slugs and
snails so I feel your pain it's not
great year if it's your first year you
must be thinking oh my gosh this is so
hard like it's not normally this hard
and like just try not to give up on it
like if you've had entire beds that have
been destroyed by slugs and snails and
the whole crop's gone try whacking in
some main crop potatoes you know they
don't tend to go to th go for those
really um try some rhubarb put some um
fruit bushes in instead you know just
sort of change your plans be flexible
with it you can't control the weather
you can't control the Slugs and snails
you can't control if your crops are
going to live or die when you're not
here um and I hope that kind of helps
because I've had to change a lot of my
plans throughout the years to be more
flexible when when crops have just been
destroyed you know and that's the only
way I can get through it really but I
hope that's some advice that you can
take away from that just know that
you're not
alone I think it's just the main bullet
point of this uh this little chat you're
not alone we're all suffering this year
we're all suffering together
[Music]
