Would it be fair to say Arsenal in this upcoming transfer window need to sign a central midfielder?
Personally for me I believe we do and I believe Popeo in theory could be the perfect partner for
Declan Rice in the middle of the park for Arsenal Football Club and could be the keys to unlock
Declan Rice within that eight row. He's a cultural number six people and I think he's a multifunctional
all-action midfielder and I think he's worth having a look at. There's a reported bounty on
his head of 20 million so when you look at some of the targets Arsenal have been linked with
he wouldn't cost nearly as much. Now you would imagine Mikel Arteta being Spanish, being a central
midfielder obviously has his eyes and ears open to La Liga. Naturally you would imagine our
scouting department must have come across Popeo. He's been on the scene for a while, the six foot
one central midfielder but finally at 25 turning 26 he seems to have found his feet and been a
shining light in an inconsistent season for Valencia. They finished La Liga in the mid-table
but I imagine you have to put more respect on their name because they've got the youngest squad
in La Liga at 23 odd years of age. Now you can see naturally with Arsenal's quote-unquote young
squad how there's already some transferables that the six foot one cultural central midfielder could
bring to Arsenal Football Club. Initially he came through the youth system at Levante,
made a bit of a name for himself there. He has been across three loan spells during his time
contracted to Levante in Portugal, in Victoria, Tudela and obviously Hercules people. Last year
he joined Valencia in what was seen as a bit of a controversial switch as he joined from
cross-town rivals Levante on a five million euros deal and he signed a five-year contract at
Valencia and I think just a few years ago he actually signed a 10-year deal at Levante. So
as I said it was a controversial switch, it was a controversial arrival for him at Valencia last
July. Since then he has become a fundamental player under their current manager and obviously
for Valencia and I believe he's got the talent, I think he's got the multifunctionalness to thrive
in Valencia whilst making the step up to bigger Spanish clubs or even Arsenal Football Club.
Once again if his reported fee is 20 million euros then when you compare to some of the targets we've
he's significantly cheaper. Again I would describe him as a Spanish deep-lying playmaker or a number
six. Now again for British viewers he's not a conventional industrious all-action flying into
a million tackle sort of number six. He's a very cultured footballer, he's a thinker's man's
footballer. I think he's great at recovering balls people as well as providing progressive passes in
the opposition half. He's a good set piece taker so that could be something we could thrive on
from dead ball scenarios. He's well built, he's not the most physical of composing figure but
he's six foot one, he's well built, he's got long gangly legs. I think he's good at scanning,
I think he's good on the half turn, I think his body shape is great, I think he's fairly
press resistant. As I said he's the thinker's man's footballer and he will play the ball between
the lines which evidently the players which would be Declan Rice in the eight row and our players
that are further forward would thrive. We need to find a midfielder to partner Declan Rice and
complete that trio of Odegaard Rice and a new central midfielder if we're to have any chance
in my opinion of getting Arsenal Football Club to where we need to be. As stated I believe he's a
multi-functional player, he's ever present for Valencia people, he's practically played all the
games across the last season. He played 36 of the 37 matches and he also got 3,215 minutes people
which again there's no player at Valencia with more minutes and starts in La Liga this season.
He also made the most passes in the team people with 1,913 and had the most recoveries with 46
and he was also the second highest scorer of the squad in La Liga with seven goals. Now
I don't think goals are a strong point of him, I'm just painting a picture that he's an industrial
cultured thinker's man's footballer that is capable of doing multiple sort of things in
the team people. He can win the ball back, he can break lines, he can offer a passing lane,
he can look to Fred defence to midfield to attack. He's very much a good footballer and again he's
been on the scene for a while, he's hitting peak ages and it seems like the penny has finally
dropped in that regards people. On the topic of interceptions and all of those kind of things,
he actually achieved a record when they played Athletic Club people versus Athletic Club Bilbao.
He played one of his best games considering it from a statistical avenue people. He covered 11,229
metres people in that game and he participated in 86 actions and won four aerial duels. So it just
shows he can do the ugly parts of the game and he recovers the ball in the engine room people.
He's accumulated 134 recoveries which equates to about an average of 6.38 per game people.
The average for the players in La Liga is at 4.62 so he's quite good at that and that's precisely
in this aspect in which he broke a record against Athletic Club when he recovered the ball 12 times
in the midfield. No other player has done so across any game this season people which is absolutely
ridiculous if I'm completely honest and he's also the only player in the current season in the
national competition in that regards that has anything close people. He's an important player
in overcoming the offensive lines people. He is the second player who makes the more forward passes
per game with 34.4 and with a high percentage of successful passes standing at 78.6. It just shows
how he is essentially a heartbeat of a young Valencia side. He was also the player with the
most crosses you know after Gaya people which I won't get too much into that. He was also third
tied with the fullback Gaya in terms of average percentage of successful dribbles which again
shows how good he is people. Again he's shining in a young Valencia side. Their average age is 23.8
so again these are for obvious reasons with their project and our project there's a lot of transferables.
At 25 years of age he seems like he's finally found his own way. He's had some trials and tribulations
he's been on loans he's dealt with a cross rival switch you know he was someone that's been known
about since 18-19 and you lot know in the present day and age if you're projected to be a player at
18-19 and you're not world class by 20 you're seen as damaged goods. So it appears that he's
finding his feet and making his own mark which obviously has a lot of hallmarks so very different
but Kai Havertz and obviously Martin Odegaard and a few players that have been in the Arsenal
team and system under Mikel Arteta. This is technically only his second season in the Spanish
top flight he has 66 appearances in La Liga to his game. At 25 that could be something to watch
out for but nonetheless people regular Valencia and La Liga watchers will agree he has been decent
this season and again as stated earlier in theory he's surely cheaper than a lot of the Arsenal
reported targets whether that's Zoubamedie, Bruno Gomarez, Onana etc etc. By the time this video is
finished there's probably about 20 other players people. For someone who has only made 29 appearances
for Valencia he sure left his mark people and we do need another centre mid who is constantly
looking to break lines when he is receiving the ball in the sixth base. His body shape as well
is directed to whoever is in position so again as mentioned earlier his body positioning, his ball
manipulation, his footballing IQ surely shows him as a thinker's man footballer. One underrated aspect
of playing in central midfield is wide areas people and if the ball is in wide areas he'll
his body under half turn so obviously that can allow the ball to roll across his body
and you can swivel. I'm not comparing him to Busquets but he's almost like a Busquets in that
Valencia team but very different to paint a picture people. Like I said people he's a very good
footballer, he's a cultured footballer, he's got aspects of being tenacious but I would not describe
him as a tenacious midfielder. He's a cultured thinker's man, conventional Spanish central
midfielder. He's described this as his best season ever. He's got hopes of making the Spain Euro squad.
Once again rumours suggest he is available for 20 million euros so who knows people but I do
like the look of him. I do like what in theory he could offer to Arsenal. I do think he's got
the intelligence to adapt to the system. Whether Valencia want to let him go, whether he's attainable,
whether he actually has been scouted by Arsenal, whether Mikel Arteta necessarily rates him I don't
know. I'm not saying he's the only option. I'm not saying he's the be-all and end-all. He's just
a player that I've been watching in La Liga this season. A player that I like him. I thought
ultimately why not make a video for you lot people. So on that note if you do watch him let me know
your thoughts in relation to the player. Let me know your thoughts in relation to the video.
