Having last week confirmed they were competing in Continental Football for the very first time,
Brest tried to ensure it would be in the Champions League,
as they knocked it in Saturday's final clash.
An extraordinary 5-4 win against Rennes last time out kept them one point above Lille,
with the Hunting Dogs game not taking place until Monday,
the Pirates with the opportunity to head for open water.
As for the visitors, they remained in a relegation fight with just three points separating them from the bottom three,
so perhaps not a surprise to see Brest start the Brighter.
The threat at first is Bradley Locco, who drew a good save,
but humble Lafont with the drive from distance.
The hosts continue to push as the rain lashed down,
and the front crosses into the box were dealt with by Lafont.
As they're riding the storm, both literally and metaphorically,
Nantes almost opened the scoring against the run of play.
Matty Sabli charging in on goal, brilliant work in the build-up,
with a finish not up to scratch.
The left foot would have been the better option,
scooped wide at the goal.
The 21-year-old would have another massive chance before half-time,
this time played in, rounding the keeper,
but again not keeping his head.
Instead, head in hands.
It would be goalless at the halfway point.
The start of the second half was ill-tempered,
with some mistimed tackles.
Stoppages preventing either side from building momentum.
Brest tried the ultimate route one,
Bizotte all the way through to Matias Pereira-Large.
It wasn't too far away.
Nantes, on the other hand, seemed intent on building more patiently.
Cambuari's triple change almost paid off.
Safa Mohamed finding space on the right-hand side.
Both defenders near him vacated their post,
putting the ball in.
Martino-Cadaueri unable to make the most of the chance,
stretching, but in truth rather fluffing his lines.
That would be that.
Pirates come away having only plundered a single point
and hoping Nantes wouldn't take advantage,
snatch away their podium spot.
Meanwhile, a single point could prove to be crucial for Nantes
as they extend their lead over the drop zone.
