Today, we want to share a fresh start with you and this involves bringing the RV community together. But first, let's face it...we find RV life to be boring at times. Living full-time in an RV can give us cabin fever.
HappilyEverHanks are real people and have down days. We want to share with you our "secret sauce" for winning back the RV life we love to live!
We hear so many people ask, how can we find you?
We want to see you.
Well, we've got the answers.
But first, let's take you on a journey behind the scenes of RV living.
Join us as we uncover the secrets of dealing with those blah days
that we all feel in RV life, because, hey, let's face it, we're all human.
Today, our story starts in Palmer, Alaska,
during a typical and very average day in the Hanks household.
Well, here we are.
Just hanging out, just you and I contemplating,
what do we do on a wonderful, cloudy chance of rain day here in Alaska?
I'm just kind of sitting here waiting for Carl, a.k.a.
Kyle, to stop editing so that we can go possibly on a hike.
I don't know.
It's either go on a hike or go to Costco because we're currently in Palmer.
It's a great location you want to be if you're just not sure where to go
and you need some downtime, you want to chill because Anchorage is only 45
minutes to an hour away.
But then when you're in Palmer, there's just there's tons of stuff to still do.
Like bug your husband to stop working so you can go do something.
I know what you guys are saying.
Let Carl edit because, you know, we want to see more videos
and we want to see longer videos.
Well, you might be right.
I should probably let him edit.
You want to go to a hike today?
I think we should go do a hike.
I think it's good for our mental health to also get out of the RV.
Good, because mine's suffering.
You know, a lot of people we talk to that have done Alaska in their own RVs
and are thinking of doing it again will say,
oh, next time I'm going to rent an RV or next time I'll do it in a van
or, you know, something smaller, probably for the reason
that they don't want to bring their home up here and beat it down to death.
Have things fall apart.
You know, get that rental and put it to work.
But my thought is when you're up here the whole summer
and you have those days that you need to be inside and it's cold and it's rainy.
I don't know.
I feel like being in a smaller living situation would just.
Yeah. And you know what I'm saying?
All right, let's do it.
Let's do we even know where we're going?
Let's look at all trails and see, because I think we should go to Hatcher Pass.
Hatcher Pass.
I don't even know what that is, but let's go do it.
Let's just get out of this RV.
I'm going insane.
I can't do it anymore.
Any chance you can hand me my phone?
Got to do it. All my hands are full here and tied.
Thank you.
All right. Let's take a look here.
So a lot of people said you got to do Hatcher Pass,
which is a road that goes through like the Hatcher Mountain.
I don't know.
I'm pretty sure if you don't want to hike, you can just like do the drive
and then there's Independence Mine up there.
But we're in the mood to hike.
I'm saying we're looking for something like mild to moderate.
I would say at the most four miles.
You know, I feel like I'm ordering a sandwich at Subway.
I'm like, give me a little bit of like a waterfall on the side.
Hold the rain.
Oh, and by the way, I might need some new shorts
because these things, I've had these for about
seven years now, and every time I just kind of
slip my finger.
Oh, it's a little more so.
Oh, honey.
Also, I would bring a jacket.
I'm a big advocate for bringing a jacket because we are about to go
on top of a mountain.
You know, it's warm down here, but it might be cold up there.
What do you do?
What do I wear? What do I bring?
How much food, snacks?
Oh, that's OK, honey.
I already know you best.
We've been together for how long?
I'm just going to go hook up the RV and hook it up
because you're going to drag everything from the RV on the hike with you.
Look, I'm so flustered now.
I forgot to bring shoes.
I'm taking these with me.
It'd be so perfect if he could actually just hook up the RV.
He always jokes about it, but he never does it.
And I'm like, yes, please.
I love me saying this.
I completely forgot that the microwave is still our old microwave
and still in the back of the truck.
And we leave day after tomorrow.
So we got to figure out where we're going to put that.
I went to I had to call the landfill.
Let me call them now. Yeah.
Oh, all we want to do is take a hike.
But adult life comes in swinging hard and like, wake up, Hanks.
Well, they're probably wondering why we have a microwave in the back of our truck.
We can explain.
Microwave, an old microwave that's broken that I need to dispose of.
OK, you too. Bye bye.
They said just live with the microwave for the rest of your life.
I don't believe you.
What happened was our old microwave was blowing fuses left and right.
So what I believe happened was the door was misaligned from the unit,
which was causing a faulty whatever connection.
It was blowing fuses and got to the point
where we couldn't even plug in the unit without it immediately blowing the fuse.
Kind of dangerous.
Reach out to Grand Designs like we're in Alaska and we need some help
and we need it quickly.
Finally, UPS delivered our microwave here to Alaska.
We installed it.
Everything's a OK.
We went two weeks without a microwave and it sucked.
You know what?
Not having a microwave has prepared us for, though,
is when we're going to be boondocking shortly.
Yes, that's right.
We're finally going to be doing some boondocking.
So you're going to need to stay tuned.
Not having the microwave made us learn to use the oven and do skillet recipes
because even though we can use the microwave with our 2000 watt inverter,
it'll just take them batteries and.
So where exactly are we going?
Do you have it mapped there?
Do you know the directions, how long it's going to take to get there?
And I'm talking about the dump, not the hike.
Yes, when we get I have it mapped to the dump.
It's about a nine minute drive, 4.6 miles.
When we get to the dump, we're going to do a loop trail around the dump.
Get some beautiful footage of scrap metal, some recyclable materials,
maybe some old mattresses, and then we're going to call it a day.
Boy, baby, I feel like this is our first date.
Goodness brings back the memories.
Wow. What a day you get to hang with the Hanks in all their glory.
That's exciting.
Isn't that just adulthood in a nutshell?
When, you know, you kids that may be watching us and you're like,
oh, my gosh, it looks so fun being an adult.
Well, just know that when you're excited to go on a hike
and explore some new areas, you have to make a pit stop at the dump
to get rid of an old microwave.
So take that information, put it in your back pocket and go with it.
I personally feel like we're always so backed up on footage,
and I feel like it's so unfair to you guys, because when you guys are watching it,
you're probably sitting there thinking, where are the Hanks?
Well, we're alive.
I assure you of that.
I can't tell you where we are because I hardly know where I'm at myself.
And that got me thinking with these whole lithium batteries
that we had installed like months ago, we barely used them.
Like we used them one time.
We're going to try to push ourselves outside that comfort zone.
You know, the one that the Hanks always find themselves in.
We're going to push the bar a little bit and keep you guys posted
on how they actually do and perform.
I know we're getting there.
Continue to be patient with us.
I feel like if I follow this guy, he's going to take us to the right place.
Goodness, being at the dump reminds me of like childhood days,
hanging out with dad, cleaning up the yard and taking it to dump.
It always smelled so bad.
There was always all those seagulls that hung out the dump.
And I'm talking northern California here.
We're not on the beach.
This is in the valley.
Just had that weird vibe.
But it was so cool because I was hanging out with dad enjoying life.
That's what it's all about.
Oh, it's my turn.
It's my turn. Here we go.
I'm so nervous.
It's like the border crossing.
Whoa. Hey there.
I have I have an old microwave to get rid of.
That's all.
Throw it in the scrap metal pile.
The big shiny mountain over there.
The big shiny. OK.
Pay me on the other side.
Thank you.
Oh, I think we're at the right place.
Scrap metal disposal area.
Look, we can get a washer and dryer for the RV.
Look at that.
That's amazing.
And a new bicycle.
Beautiful day at the dump.
There's piles for tires.
They got vehicles.
There's an RV over there, if anyone's interested.
I don't know how much they're selling it for.
You get your pickings.
You come here, you drop off, you pick up whatever you want.
Sorry, is this your first time at a dump?
Look at the views.
You can get nice mountain views at the dump here in Alaska.
See, I told you.
Any final words you want to say to this?
Good riddance.
You know, you can never finish a job unless you do that.
Just want to let you know that's the final calling for every man out there
in the world.
Actually, I did that too early.
Hold on.
Here we go.
I guess they're like they're going to charge us by weight
because we were on a scale and then she's like,
you're going to come back on the scale quick, like throw up or something
so we can be less weight.
No, that means they charge us more.
Oh, my gosh. Quick, eat something quick.
Go get a burger.
It seems like a great place to wait that truck in the RV if we're ever towing.
Just stop here instead of a cat scale.
Show up at the dump and be like, you know what?
We changed our mind.
Thank you so much for accommodating us.
We're just going to head on out and just get a free way.
No way, nay, nay, which means exactly what it says.
Don't weigh me.
I'm so nervous.
It is like the motor checkpoint.
We just got rid of a microwave.
OK, two dollars.
How much? Two dollars.
That's all?
Oh, nice.
That was seriously only two dollars.
Wow, that was not pricey at all.
I guess they didn't weigh us.
They were just like, oh, take your word for it.
You dropped off the microwave.
OK, I wonder how much a bike costs, like 25 cents.
How much would Dexter weigh?
Like or how much would he cost to dispose?
A lot.
You know how many cans of Fancy Feast he has in his belly right now?
Too many to count.
So being up here, you are going to come up into a lot of elevation.
So make sure you pack a jacket.
I'm glad they made me bring this.
It's warm down here, but it might be cold up there.
This is really neat.
I think that's the abandoned mine over there.
The one that they had back in like the 30s or 40s
when they were searching for the gold.
Have I ever done gold panning before?
No. Have you guys?
It seems like a cool thing to do.
Maybe make a little money on the side.
I don't know. It's probably too good to be true.
Let's go check out these views.
Holy moly. This is awesome.
We found the trailhead.
It's hiding by all these bushes here, as you can see.
But we found it. It's exciting.
Look at us hiking and doing stuff.
Here we go.
Hmm. That smells good.
Fresh air.
I don't know about you, but I feel a lot of shape here.
We're only like a minute in.
We're like, all right, where's the truck?
You think we're adventurous?
Our lungs say otherwise.
Yeah, you can definitely tell Alaska's gotten some rain.
Alaska doesn't stop raining.
Huachico's muddy trails.
Muddy trails means we're rugged and we're doing it.
But I love that.
What are you doing?
This YouTube stuff, don't mind me.
I love how earlier we were like, let's do a simple 1.5 mile hike.
It's no big deal.
How the turntables.
Yeah, I think you're right.
All I can say, that's Alaska, baby.
I feel so tiny here.
I'm little.
Listen, the views are great, but this trail is not safe.
Some family just passed us and a young lady was carrying a baby.
And I don't know how she did it because this is so slick.
And I don't know how we're going to be able to walk down this without falling.
I didn't bring my helmet.
Got to find a way to protect my noggin.
We got to walk down that, by the way.
Do you know someone with a helicopter?
Because I don't.
Do you notice how quiet it got?
Because we're like over the like that.
We're not in the valley anymore.
Like, it's just so quiet up here.
Do you want to stick your feet in the water?
I want to stick my whole face in the water.
I'm just kidding.
What do you think that is, a dog print right there?
Yes. Dang it.
I thought I was on National Geographic for a second, but, you know, it's fine.
What are you doing?
I'm going in the water. I'm taking a bath.
What are you doing?
Oh, what is it called?
She's so warm.
OK, it's so clear that you think it's more shallow than it is.
I just put my foot here thinking it was only going to go up to my ankle
and it's like going up to my thigh or my calf.
OK, I'm done.
You got to do it, Carl.
How cold was that?
It's not as bad as you think, probably because it's cold out here, too.
I don't know if I believe you.
Hey, you look good.
Thanks.
Oh, yeah, that's
cold.
Get out there.
Do a lap.
I'm going to go for a quick swim.
I'll be right back.
You want to catch a fish for dinner?
I'm ready.
You're fishy, fishy.
I can't move anymore.
I'm stuck.
Call for a helicopter.
I'll be out here swinging.
You've never appeared more attractive than you walking like that.
Stop it.
You mean that?
There you are with the hand clap again, like you just did something.
See? Job well done.
Wow, this is awesome out here.
I really like how when you look up like the clouds
just kind of seep over the mountaintops.
Reminds me of those like eerie, scary movies.
Yeah, I really like the raindrops hitting the water.
So game plan tonight, we are heading to Anchorage.
About a 40 minute drive.
Ain't nothing but a thing.
We're going to the meetup.
It was a little bit of a last minute decision on the Hank's end.
I take full responsibility for that.
Nate and I were sitting here thinking, well, we're up here in Alaska.
Let's go meet some folks.
I feel like we are always seeing you guys in passing,
and we want to take that to another more personable level.
We're going to go to a brewery.
We got our own room rented, got our own little bartender there.
It's going to be a nice little environment for a couple of hours
just to hang out with our peeps.
Of course, you know what that means.
Dexter, he's always a party pooper.
He's hanging out at home.
Crowds are not his thing, especially the bar scene.
He just can't hang.
All right. I know enough jibber jabber, Carl.
Let's get to it. All right.
Well, fair enough.
We'll see you folks there.
We love connecting with our peeps on the road
and hearing your incredible stories.
That's why we've started hosting these events, giving us more time
with the beautiful faces behind the camera tonight.
Secretly, we do that a lot.
So if anyone if there's somebody that doesn't want to be on camera,
you called off work and you don't need to get up.
Our Alaska hangout was incredible
and we're planning more exciting events in the future.
If you're wondering what the hey, Hanks, how was I not informed of this?
Well, it's because you're not on our weekly email list
or maybe you are and just need a little reminder to check that inbox.
Every Thursday, we send out an email with our latest video release
and exclusive access to event information.
Visit our website to get set up.
That is if you're ready to hang with the Hanks.
We'll see you out there.
