Good morning and welcome to Tainan. So we have officially made it to the west coast of Taiwan.
Tainan is the oldest city here in Taiwan and it's actually it was the capital city before
the capital city moved to Taipei and it's also considered by many to be the food capital of
Taiwan which makes me very very excited. So today the plan is to go explore some historical sites,
go see some temples and of course eat lots of food.
Are you the owner? Yeah. Oh you are? Yeah. Okay. You're the master. How do you know that?
Yesterday when I saw you I was like oh she might be the owner. Really? Yeah. What's your name?
Monica. Monica. Yeah. Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you. It's Tommy and my wife Sammy. Oh
Very beautiful. Yes she is. Yes she is. Very beautiful.
I can never do that. How long did it take you to learn?
Three, two or three months. Very good. Thank you. Wow so much construction today.
Was it not like this yesterday? It was not like this yesterday. Tommy said I have this really
really cool coffee shop I want to bring you to. You can sit and just watch the street life go by.
There's literally like a crane.
So Tainan known for its cafe culture and I found this little coffee shop yesterday called Carpenter
Coffee and it has a specialty coffee that's just amazing. So I had to bring Sammy to try it out.
Cheers. The owner's so sweet. The girl's working here and they are so professional. Like look at
that design. Isn't that good? Yum. Yummy. I got the brown sugar latte and they don't serve anything
other. Well they serve coffee and then they serve two treats like a lemon pound cake and a biscuit.
We read online that biscuits are very delicious too. Oh yeah that's pretty. Found this place. Cheers.
Are you sure? Yeah. Okay. What are you doing right now? She wants me to put our channel
name on the wall. I didn't want to mess up her walls. I got nervous. I didn't know if I was right.
She asked me to ride it first. I was like oh no. Sammy won. That would be bad. Tommy is like chicken's
crotch. Thank you so much. See you tomorrow. Bye bye. So besides the delicious coffee another great
thing about that coffee shop is it opens at 8 a.m. We found it very difficult to find any cafes
open early here in Taiwan. Ready for some beef soup? Let's do it.
So this is Tainan beef not sorry not beef noodle beef soup because there's no noodles. So this is a
typical breakfast soup here in Tainan. It's basically like thinly sliced beef that is in
this very light broth and we got it with a side of white rice. Okay we're going for a bite. And the
owners are super sweet too. I was like getting shots he's like no wait wait I want to show you
one thing in particular which was like a vegetable dish that smelled so good so we ordered that too.
Yeah oh we have that coming? Oh cool. Oh yeah. Good find. This is great. Simple yet so delicious.
Great thing here in Taiwan is it took some getting used to. Oh thank you. Thank you. The thing we had
to get used to was you actually order and pay for your food right when you order instead of
afterwards but we've like learned to love it because when you're done with your meal you
don't have to call the waiter over and get the pension to pay you can just get up and leave
because you're already paid so I feel like everybody should adopt that. So convenient. Yeah. I actually
love it so much. Oh okay okay okay. Thank you. It's like garlicky. Wow. This was 110 Taiwanese dollars
per bowl and then 130 for the vegetables and beef. Yeah. So about three dollars and 50 cents a plate.
I think that's very reasonable. Thank you very much. Thank you.
So we just made it to the Anping district here in Tainan which is the historical area so there's
lots of like places of interest so we're gonna walk around. The first stop that we're here at
is the Grand Mazu or Grand Matsu Temple. It's spelled a couple different ways so I'm not really
sure how you say it but we're gonna go check out the temple. The temples here in Taiwan are so
colorful with so many intricate details and the incense burning is like very peaceful but there's
this really crazy loud music that's on the street right now that just takes away the experience like
just slightly. So we just got into Anping Old Fort and it was 70 a person to get in? Yeah 70 a person
to get in. So this place was formerly known as Fort Zealandia and it was built by the Dutch.
So they didn't have cement back in the day so the bricks were laid with a mixture of oyster
sauce, glutinous rice, and syrup. Wow. I'm gonna lick it. Try it see if it's still good.
This is so cool. So you saw how pretty these tickets are? Look. I was like looking at these
tickets and I was like wow that's a pretty like nice intricate ticket entrance ticket and then
you look closely you can see it says Tainan 400 and I forgot that I read online this year is
Tainan's 400th birthday so we must have got special birthday tickets. 400 years. Happy birthday. That's
Oh my gosh the noise. So our next stop we're going to a tree house which should be pretty fun. So it's
pretty cool everywhere around the city they have so many banyan trees. I think that's where the
tree house is built into as well. Can you make that jump? Nice. The ticket offices are so awkward
because the screen is like um shadowed out so you just you're talking to a reflection of yourself
but they're like I don't know it's just weird. So it was another 70 to get in here per person
looks like it's more than just tree house though there's like a sky bridge a water wheel
and a little cafe as well. It's like a whole ecological pond. Oh okay. Whole little area.
So basically this was a salt warehouse during the Japanese period and then now it's just
overgrown with banyan trees. Nice. Looks very pretty. So this reminds me a little bit of anchor walk.
Creepy hands. It's pretty cool with the nice walkways give you a view. Yeah and it's like
breezy and shaded up here but this is it makes you almost feel like you're like in the tree.
It's like a fish zombie like they just all come up to you and go
so they definitely know that's what happens when you buy the food because look.
Sammy couldn't wait to get over here and feed the fish.
How much is it? Ten dollars which ten dollars is like 30 cents.
The combination of what to me seems like millions of little fish
and the smell of this fish food which smells like dog food.
It's kind of gross to me at all but it's like oddly entertaining.
We're such bird nerds. Look at that guy. Switching lenses just for the bird.
Okay after those awesome sights we're gonna head to Anping old street which is supposed to be the
oldest street here in Taiwan and so great place to go to get some snacks. I'm a little hungry again.
Boba brown sugar please.
This is much needed. It is sweltering. Cool us down. So we got some
boba teas. I got the brown sugar milk tea. These are so good here you guys. So good. Just for a
few bucks. Oh cool you down and I love the little what are they called pieces of boba? Yeah the
tapioca pearls. Yeah the tapioca is good. I'm being careful though. I stopped getting them in
mine because I felt like I was choking every time I would drink it. They kind of sneak up on you
when you drink them. Danger. Hazard. Beautiful. Thank you guys. It's so good. We're trying out his
fresh fruit and they're so pretty too. It's a piece of fresh fruit in a jelly ball. I'm so
into it. It's so colorful. The color told me. Sauce. What is the sauce? Honey orange juice. Yeah.
Okay I'm gonna try the mango first. There's a little piece of fruit inside it actually every time.
I'm jellying my drinks. Jellying snacks. It's like the same as those tapioca pearls. It kind of
like slips back and gets you. Yeah it scares me a little bit. Oh these are fun. Okay I'm gonna try
the dragon fruit. Look the grape one has a whole grape in it. That's a dang hazard.
Did you just swallow them whole?
What was your name sir? My name is Davey. Davey. Nice to meet you.
Pork coffin toast. Deep fried seafood stuffed toast. Kind of a scary name. Coffin toast. I know.
Somebody walking by was like oh it's like a chicken pot pie. It doesn't look like a bread
pot pie but like seafood. It's so crispy. Oh is it? Oh yeah. It's so good. It's like it is like a
breaded cream soup with bread but the bread is like the crust like a pot pie. This is awesome.
It's really good. Nice. I think this area is also known for some dried fruit so I just popped into
this dried fruit shop. We're gonna try some dried fruits. Oh that smells really nice.
That was too big of a bite. Ginger is so strong.
Wow. Such great prices. Only 50 for that whole thing of dried mango. That seems super affordable.
Yeah about a dollar fifty. They make these shrimp crackers on this street. It was funny
because I walked by one earlier and that machine just like pops them out of there. Scared me.
That scared me.
How are they? Like a like a rice cracker. Not shrimpy at all. These are good. I did not think
I was gonna like this. It's like styrofoam. The texture is so satisfying. I like it.
Well that was really fun trying all those snacks. Now it's time to go back to our hotel,
have a little break, get out of the heat for a little bit before we explore more tonight.
So I wanted to show you guys where we've been staying at. It's called the Stable Hotel. I love
that it is centrally located. We're directly like in the heart of Tainan so if you go like 12 minutes
in one direction you get like the historical Anping district and if you go like 12 minutes
in the other direction you get like the Shenong street area which we still have to go explore
tonight. But yeah let's show you the hotel. So right as you walk into the hotel you have my
favorite spot which there's a cafe right here in the lobby where you can enjoy some delicious coffee.
And this is the beautiful room that we've been staying at while we're here at the Stable Hotel.
So all of the rooms have different themes. We're staying in the indulge room. It's very nice and
spacious. It comes with a king-size bed that's very comfortable. They have like a sitting area
over here, a desk which is always nice to have a workspace, and the bathroom is very sleek and
modern. It even comes with like little Aveda products which I thought was really nice. We
have been loving our stay here at Stable Hotel so if you guys want to check it out
if you're in Tainan we're going to leave a link in the description box below.
Much appreciated.
I went to give Tommy the money and this change is weighing down my purse. I was like oh here
you can pay with this and he was like you could go pay with that. I ain't touching that money.
Okay I'm gonna go pay. I'm blushing. Okay so we got a couple of typical dishes here to try.
This one, what is it called? Miguel? Miguel? I have an audience. I'm a little Miguel.
White sticky rice with slow-cooked pork on top and this is served with I think fish floss.
I've never tried fish floss. Fish flush before. So anyway rice and pork. I mean
that sounds pretty good to me. Oh like juicy. Oh that's very fatty. That's not my favorite.
So this dish is a Tainan specialty. It's been passed down to different generations.
Sammy was not a fan. Let's see how I like it. Very fatty. You're right. It like melts in your
mouth. You're gonna have to chew it. Sammy's not a fan of the texture but the flavors are great.
Floss is the only thing I don't like but both of these bowls were only two dollars.
Can't beat that. So this is like a nice snack. They have guava juice and you can mix it with
different flavors. I think I'm gonna get the guava orange. Look at this. This little to-go bag. He's
like put your fingers right in here. All this deliciousness for only 40. This next spot I'm
very excited for. We've already had it twice while we're here. So delicious. Can't wait to go back
and have it again. It's closed. It's not. No. What we're supposed to have. So this place serves soft
serve ice cream. They only serve one flavor a day and every day it's a surprise flavor. We've
actually been here twice already. We haven't really walked around this area at all. We just
like come and got the ice cream and left. The first time we came here the flavor was toffee
and then the second time we came here the flavor was green tea. Oh yeah. I wanted it to be a tea
flavor so badly. And we're like oh my gosh can't wait to go back tomorrow. We're gonna film and
film the whole area and get the ice cream of the day and it's closed. That's a bummer. I know.
The best meal today is no more. Best meal? The dessert.
So we weren't able to have any ice cream but the next best thing
we're at a brewery here to try some craft beers.
Cheers. Green tea citrate. The guy working said it was his favorite one and I wanted to try it
because I've been on such a tea kick lately. I don't think we've ever had green tea in beer before
Wow that's actually pretty good. That's tasty. It is good. It has like the green tea is more
on like the aftertaste but I was gonna say besides in Taipei when you had that one beer
we haven't had a single other drink in Taiwan. Not acceptable. No but just this whole year we
really haven't drank at all this year. Not acceptable. That's all I gotta say. I really
missed this. Having a good micro brew at a little cool bar. Yeah. We haven't done it in such a long
time. We almost didn't and we weren't gonna come here but Seth and Pete they're also YouTubers
probably YouTubers and they're in Taiwan right now. Seth messaged me and she was like you guys
have to go to this little brewery so. Thank you guys for the recommendation. Thanks for the tip.
Because it's so good. Yeah. Nice to be back. Cheers. And I got their only true IPA. Very delicious.
The guy who owns this brews all them himself which is so cool.
It's a mural of start to finish rice farming. I think. I don't know.
Thank you guys so much. Appreciate it. So what a great street to end our time here in Tainan.
If you love food like we do this is a must-see when you guys come to Taiwan.
Isn't this street so pretty? Yeah. I love all the lanterns. They are so pretty and everyone's just
enjoying and taking pictures. The food here has been so great and all the snacks too. All we did
today was eat. Bunch of food. Oh shucks. Thank you guys for watching though. Hope you guys enjoyed
the video. We love all y'all. We love all y'all. Oh we love y'all and we'll see you in the next one.
Okay so the ice cream place is open. We literally have all of our stuff in an Uber but we came to
grab an ice cream really quick before we leave. And there are two flavors. Two flavors. Yeah two
flavors. This one is a kind of oolong tea. Another one is a traditional Taiwanese
dessert. Okay so they usually have one or two flavors a day. So an oolong tea which was the
flavor I really wanted to try and then roasted wheat flour. You got what you wanted. Should we
do one of each? Just one oolong tea. One oolong tea please. Okay. I feel like so nervous because
our Uber is waiting for us. $100. Thank you. Thank you. Oh it's so pretty. It's such a pretty
I can't believe we came to get one before our train leaves. Perfect timing. Yeah the one you
wanted. Oh my gosh. It's so good. I've been on such a tea kick lately and had the jasmine green tea
and then we had the toffee one and this is the oolong tea. It's I was like like literally I told
Tommy last night I was like I hope they have oolong tea. It's so good. It's the spot? Perfect.
All right let's go.
