Hi I'm Chris and this is Jim and we're Midlife Travel Bug and today we are in
the beautiful mountainside town of Terramena.
Terramena is an hour north of Catania. We rented a car and we're going to be
driving around the island of Sicily for the next few weeks but
our first day trip today is to this beautiful
Terramena. If you haven't heard about Terramena in Sicily
my goodness if you ever get the opportunity to come to Sicily this is
probably so far the most beautiful town I've seen in a very long time.
It is a cliffside town so you are looking at
epic views of the Mediterranean Sea and Mount Etna the most active volcano in
the world right now is in the backdrop as well. There's a
theater as well. Just walk through this town it's just
like so pretty. It's just very pretty you have to see it to understand it.
Let's go check it out.
Sweetest birthday cake why can't it just stay this way
Mountain there is Mount Etna and that is the most active volcano in the world.
Just walking through the narrow streets here in Terramena and it is absolutely
just beautiful. I don't even know what to say it's just stunning you gotta come
see it.
Oh
Instead I'm thinking of strangers I'm thinking of haters I'm thinking of laying down for a nap
I'm thinking of payday worried I won't make it first I think of a delicate thing
Now we parked our vehicle at the main car park down the hill and we got
a free shuttle drove us up to the town here and we don't know how much the
parking is yet it might be two million dollars so there's a main walking street
that is lined with shops and restaurants little side streets full of restaurants
there's views everywhere there's flowers everywhere but take you from one end of
the town to the other and that's where basically all the little squares are as
well so you can stop and check the view of the Mediterranean there as well so
we just bought tickets to go into the ancient theater here in Terramena and it
is as old as a third century BC it is the largest theater with exception to
Syracuse in the not only in Sicily but the Italian Peninsula and the North
Peninsula of Africa so it is just a phenomenal discovery here and one of the best things to
see while you're in Terramena tickets cost 10 euro each to get in we did not get the audio guide
we're gonna go check that out let's go see it
you can see they still have active concerts that they hold here the volcano is smoking
crazy look at this this might be the best concert venue that I've ever seen so imagine paying for
the cheap seats up here and look at the view you get of Mount Etna and the Mediterranean Sea
how cool is that you just feel the energy being so old unbelievable you go up and this is where
the concessions would have been the view on the other side we'll check that out how beautiful is
that I don't know if you can see in the distance that piece of land there is the toe of Italy so
that's the mainland right up top there is the castle I don't know if we'll have time to get
there right now but pretty awesome and then this is just mind-blowing and then if I turn around
okay it's a second century 80
down the street so many times my feet know every brick and stone could wear a blindfold
no matter what I do I'm coming home to you I'm always feeling homesick
Terramena has some public gardens that you can walk through so I thought it'd be romantic and
down to the public gardens oh see look at romance
mind-blowing fact about Terramena that I just found out a lot of the movie The Godfather was
filmed here in Terramena instead of Corleone because they figured Corleone was too much of a
high crime rate so they filmed a lot of the scenes here in Terramena including the railway station
and a lot of other places so wow that just blew my mind the Bambar is where you get the brioche
with the gelato it's very famous here in Terramena this is the place to go so very lined up right
now we're not going to do it we just don't have the time today but if you are here in Terramena
stop by the Bambar and get the brioche with the gelato
just some ancient ruins there so we just arrived back at the car park so it is down the hill from
Terramena and there is a free shuttle to get back up so if you do have a car this is where you'll
want to park because you do not want to drive you can and you can drive up top a lot of people are
however not being experienced in Italy especially these little tiny hilltop towns are quite tight we
saw some people struggling to get around the corner so crazy yeah so we'll let you know how
much in the bottom how much this costs to stay for a few hours but what a beautiful city I think
definitely one of the prettiest cities like I said I've seen in a very long time I'm so glad we made
the day trip to come here and if you have the opportunity when you're in Sicily not enough time
though if budget allows try to stay here our budget did not allow so we're not staying here but
um you know we had three four hours not enough time mostly not so much budget it was just the
time like we had so much time in Sicily so we're trying to fit everything in and of course you can't
go everywhere but we're sure glad we came to this city and if you get the opportunity make sure you
come for sure because it's definitely the highlight of my day we would definitely come back
yes I'll come back we'll come back and hopefully stay next time so see you later guys thanks for
watching cheers you pay for parking before you go into the parkade to get your car uh we're here for
three hours and 35 minutes and it was seven euro for the parking and again the free shuttle gets
gonna stay in this moment gonna lay here on the grass
