These places are found on Harvest Host
It is windy though. It's very windy. Oh one's running. One's running. Oh man.
Oh my gosh. A junkyard brewing. Okay. Fresh air. Look at you.
Good morning. Good morning. So we are here just waking up at this beautiful alpaca farm called
Windrush Alpacas in New Mexico and it's a great place to stop. It's a harvest host.
Great place to stop here after a 10-hour driving day from Texas. So we have a really cool plan
today except I don't really know much about it. I know Dave has said oh it's a really fun surprise
and it's a really fun surprise but I'm not sure exactly what that means. I am looking forward to
it because I like surprises but I'm not sure what we're getting into. But this morning we're gonna
hang out here just for a few minutes. I got some alpaca snacks from the host Rosemary who's a
wonderful wonderful woman. We're gonna meet some of the animals right now so we should go
have a look. Dave and I should eat some alpacas. Check out the lovely horse and a bunch of other
cute little animals that they have here. All right enough talk. Let's get to feeding. We've got the
snacks. We got the food. Look at them all and these are these are the guys. This is the guys
section here. So they kind of separated them. They're about 12 years old right now and that's
I forget some of the names but look how cute they are. These have all had their shavings so
all the little shavings. They're resting in the sun. Beautiful breeze. Dave got the introduction.
You've got to cup your hand. They'll eat right out of it. Right there like that. Don't worry
they have no time. They'll just take it. Don't worry. There's one thing. Yay. All right there
you go. Look at them giving little snacky to them. There you go. Yeah. Oh there you go buddy.
All right yeah. Look at that. Very cool. All right. Tiny you got the food.
They don't have top teeth. It is windy though. Very windy. Right yeah. Fun driving day that's
for sure. I'm all curious. They're all watching like ah. I think they're all pretty well fed.
They are. They look like they may have very healthy. And of course they've been sheared a
number of them already. That one's a little aggressive coming in. You guys over here all
need to be sheared. So this is the this is the non-sheared pin. Oh one's running. One's running.
Oh man. Here it comes. Breakfast is a very important meal of the day. Exactly. Right.
All right time to hit the road. Time to pack up and hit the road. Yeah let's do it.
I think they're here to say goodbye to us. Yeah. They want to see us off. You guys are all here to
see us off. Well thank you for being gracious hosts. We really appreciate it. Take care of each other.
Oh you are so lovely. Bye babies. Check out not too far from Fort Sumner's place is Villa
the Kid here in New Mexico. Villa the Kid's grave and uh that's where we're at right now.
What an interesting name Villa the Kid. Now don't know much about him but we do know that he was an
outlaw and he died pretty young. So I think he was orphaned outlawed and outlawed things. If you're
outlawed yeah I mean you do those terrible things usually you don't live that long. So I don't know
how old he was but I know he was pretty young maybe in his 20s. Oh hi Devo. Yeah so he was a
apparently did a lot of cattle wrestling. Oh cattle wrestling. No not wrestling, rustling.
Sounds like maybe rustling. I'm thinking maybe I don't know if he's like stealing cattle or something
but he was definitely an outlaw and he actually came down here to seeking refuge
and they kind of got wind that he and his posse were down here. The authorities came on down
killed some of his posse but then captured him. He was brought to trial. He was sentenced to be
hanged for the murder of Sheriff William Brady and judge actually no after the murder of Sheriff
William Brady. He was sentenced to be hanged but then he escaped one last time. Escaped one last time.
And then what happened next? He came down here to Fort Sumner again but then he happened to walk
into I think a bar or something where some uh sheriff was looking for him and that sheriff
Wow. That's the end of the story. You know what? It's really interesting you know. These outlaws
they tend to go into bars and that's where it ends for them or what's the other guy's name?
He was in the bar yeah. Shot in the back of the head. Yeah up in Deadwood. Yeah it's the hand.
Give me a second we'll be right back. And we're back. Wild Bill Hickok. Yes.
So I think right around this corner here is the grave inside of Billy the Kid or supposed
grave. The post cemetery here in Fort Sumner. So let's go take a look. So just gotta pass
the welcome center and right on in to the Fort Sumner. Oh it looks like the one that's
off in the distance. Right there.
Welcome to Billy the Kid's grave right here behind me. I mean look at this it's still
in prison. Exactly. Not able to escape but it's interesting we were just reading a plaque that
said that Billy the Kid's grave was stolen three times between 1950s and 1980s and wow
and then eventually at some point right off here they had a shack. It looks like it's just
locked down. Billy the Kid's grave was locked down. Is that right Dave?
Yeah that's right. It was at one time recovered all the way in Huntington
Beach California. California. Isn't that crazy? And then of course these are some of his compadres
right here that fought alongside Billy the Kid. They have Charlie Beaudry who was an unlucky
friend to Billy the Kid and you have Tom O'Foleyard who was another you know outlaw fighting with
Billy the Kid. It's pretty sad I mean he actually died I think in his early 20s. It's pretty uh
you know not not a very long life but a wild ride for sure. Exactly. But take a look at this
and have a look people are actually throwing like coins inside there. Put some coins down.
The Kid. Billy the Kid. Yep. Born 1860. Died 1881. He was 21. 21 years old. Oh boy. Oh hold on
correction. It was only two times. That second time was the time that they found it in Huntington
California. Thank you Black Baby. Thank you. That thank you. All the information right there. I
should have read that first. Welcome home babe. What do you mean? Welcome home for the night.
Yes. Oh my gosh. Yeah we're staying in a junkyard. A junkyard. It looks really homey. Oh man I'm
excited. Oh my goodness. Have you stayed in a junkyard before? I've never. You never told me.
No. Maybe you have and that's why we're here.
Oh my goodness gracious. Okay it looks like we can find a nice level spot if we could.
Wow. Oh my gosh. A junkyard brewing.
Oh it's kind of windy you guys. Okay can I just say how my husband is. Once again he's come through
camp here. But you know us. We like weird. Now this is so cool. Dave this is really cool. I
figure we can uh camp and also we can shop for your new car. Okay you just lost 20 cool points
on that one. Lost 20 cool points on that one. You know you could. I got I got your car for you.
It really is cool. It's like two parts here. Yeah what a cool spot. Live action goes on over here.
Right look at that. And they use the pistons for the taps. Oh no way. That is cool.
That is so cool. That is awesome. Wow. And they brew quite a bit here. Look at this one. That's
for real. They have wrestling going on this weekend. Yeah. So normally it's a bar. There's
like you know there's two cars. Corvette sitting here. The older car. There's a live band just
recently. They got the little foosball. Foosball. Foosball table. Foosball. All right.
Oh almost got it in. Come on Red. Come on. Oh oh Dave don't jump.
Trying to be mean to me. Oh there we go. My turn. Uh oh he's about to score y'all. He's
right in the middle of it. I'm stuck. Oh. Oh one more. One more down. One more down.
It's a little revenge from that sling a puck. Sling a puck. Exactly. There it is. Foosball.
Hey. So we ordered. What did we order? The two junkyard junkyards. Junkyard. Yeah junkyard
lager and junkyard like sandwich. Nice. Like a brisket sandwich or something. Nice. So we're
gonna be uh feeling pretty good. Feeling pretty good. I'm excited. How's the beer babe? This is
my kind of beer. Light and wimpy. Right. First for me. Oh and cold. Nice and cold. Right.
Oh yeah. Yeah the junkyard uh it's like pork and brisket sandwich I guess.
It's gonna be good. Oh yeah. It's gonna look like a beast. Here we go.
That's some good stuff. You're gonna love it. Oh yeah. Nice smoky stuff. Nice flavor.
That's good. Oh yeah. Best sandwich. That's really good. That's a really good sandwich.
It's the kind of brisket that will sit in here for a couple days
and take like a week to get out of your system. That's very good.
A lot of flavor. You can definitely taste the post oak in that coming through. The sauce.
Good flavor. All right I'm diving in.
Good morning from the junkyard on 66 brewery. I will say it was a lot of fun
last night meeting with several other RVers that are using the Harvest Host to camp here.
The brewery was a lot of fun. They have great selection of beer. Small selection but a great
selection and I love that they have like entertainment as well. So it's really neat.
You saw like a schoolie back there. There's an old almost looks like breaking bad RV back there
and there's a lot of different little pockets of just junk. So it was a lot of fun. Everybody you
see right now is already gone. Taken off. Off to the next adventure and so are we. We're heading
on the road to check out another really cool. I think it's a dispersed camping spot. I never know.
Dave's the planner. I'm just along for the ride. So but I'm driving right now so time to hit the
road. Pack up. Off to the next one. So we went from the junkyard to this beautiful national forest
area in like sort of upper Flagstaff. Sort of northern Arizona really and it's uh Cocalino. I
think it's Cocalino National Forest and right now we're just driving past Lake Mary and it has such
a familiar vibe. This is like your first van lifing. It was crazy. I just it still brings
back memories and I can remember like it was yesterday right? And of our first trip in a van.
First trip. And it's just bringing back so many fun memories and the air is so beautiful and so
crisp right now. Coconino. I think that is how we pronounce it. Please let us know in the
description box below. Say Coconino. Coconino baby. Coconino. That's how we're saying it.
So we're kind of also winging it you guys too. So we just came up here and we're thinking wow
we can just there's a couple of dispersed spots we can check out but there's also a cool campground
that's right on Lake Mary. Right around Lake Mary and we're going to check it out to see if we can
nab a spot for a couple nights. Really just soaking all this beauty. Go for a bike ride. Just
breathing that fresh air. Fresh air. Good morning. Good morning. So we nabbed a perfect spot here
at our Coconino National Forest and we're here at Ashurst Lake. So right behind me is Desert Snow.
Dave is actually getting the bikes ready. We're having coffee. We saw the sunset here at sunrise
sorry and it was one of those wow you could hear the crashing of the lake against the rocks here.
The ospreys were in full effect. There's a lot of folks out here now fishing which is kind of
getting to that fishing season here. We're about 8,000 feet up and it's just gorgeous. So we were
gonna just do like a one-day dispersed camping but it is so beautiful and so relaxing we decided to
just kind of chill. We're gonna stay here and we're actually going to relax for one day. One day only.
So we're gonna bike ride, finish our coffee. Dave should be down in just a second and let me show
you this view you guys. This is our view. Sunrise is right at that point right over there. It is
absolutely gorgeous. I can't wait to do it again tomorrow. You have lots of folks all along sort of
the bank and they're all fishing. Actually they just a couple days ago they just stocked this
with trout but you'll see like the ospreys flying through the sky. The boats are in full effect.
The fishing boat. I like small little boats. Got the sun on your face now. Oh yeah. Feels good.
But with a sunblock. With a sunblock. Yeah. So are we ready to rock on the bikes? We are.
I think it's a beautiful spot to bike ride. Yeah so are we going to explore
all around the lake? I think we should. Are you up for it? I'm up for it. All right let's do it.
It's all about the views baby.
