Explored Crater Lake National Park and hiked down to the lake inside the Crater. Toured on a Trolley and saw a 500-year-old tree and a Phantom Ship! Wow!
Crater Lake National Park, really spectacular, had a great time. I think it does, I think it
squeaks in maybe to number 10. Yes, yes I think it squeaks in. So just just so you know we spent
right before we started filming this we spent the last probably 45 minutes to an hour
talking about what our favorite national parks were and why. There were some national parks that
probably wouldn't have made the top 20 but they did not only because of the beauty but just
because of the experience that we had there. So our experience here at Crater Lake, we had a lot
of fun, a lot of fun, a lot of different things to do there too. So we did the the boat thingy,
phantom ship, phantom ship, that was pretty cool. It was a rock formation and it was kind of foggy
foggy and looking at the edge and you have to hike there. Yes and it was a pretty easy hike.
It was really easy. Yeah and there was a waterfall along the way so that was neat.
Here at Crater Lake, I think it's leaking. Yeah. Yeah and it's a little chilly but I think it's
leaking a lot. Yeah. Let's get out of the rain. Now because of the time of year that we went,
some of the roads are still closed or a section of the road is still closed because of snow.
So we couldn't actually circumnavigate the entire lake. And we didn't try to bushwhack around it.
We do know a park ranger there and if we had tried that we would have gotten in some big
trouble because he knows we knew better. So you'd be proud of us Miles. So we did the phantom and
then the next day we came back and we did the trolley ride. We're gonna take a trolley ride
around Crater Lake. Should be a lot of fun, a couple hours. It won't be a three-hour tour,
just a two-hour tour and we're not gonna leave land.
We're gonna get on and see what it looks like around Rim Drive.
Perspective of Crater Lake.
It set a record for the clearest water in the world. I think it was like a 40. 43.
So I mean yeah it was really pretty because and we like to do it early on. It kind of gives you a big
overview of that area that you're going to. Like when we did San Diego we did the trolley right
there and so we did the trolley right here. Unfortunately this was not a hop-on hop-off.
So we were kind of stuck with the narrator, the ranger that we got. He was informative. He was.
It really gave us a good opportunity to sort of lay out the next few days. Yes. Activities.
Yes. Which was really neat. So we decided to even though the boat wasn't operating. Exactly.
We hiked down to the dock. Down. Down. Down. It was steep. Wasn't so bad going down
but coming back up it was challenging. When we got to the parking lot there was a rescue team there.
Uh-oh. That can't be good. That can't be good. I hope this isn't an end of the difficulty of this
trail. We decided we're gonna walk down to the lake. Check it out. Mile down about 700 feet.
Will be interesting. So the boat's not operating but we just want to touch the water.
So we're gonna head down 700 feet and we should hit something that's wet and blue. Yes. We hope.
Okay I guess we can't cut in line. Can't cut. Gotta take the long way. All right. Well the trails
are in amazing shape. The trail is in really nice shape. We've set the record world record here for
water clarity at 143 feet. 147. Yeah and hopefully you can kind of see this
here on the shore where the colors have changed. That's the different depths
and it is just clear. I mean it'd be cool to go diving in that. That'd be really neat. Wouldn't
see a lot. It'd be really cold. We got down to the bottom by the dock then there was a
rescue team standing around waiting and apparently I guess someone slipped and fell.
Yeah they'd hurt themselves and they think they might have hurt their backs. Yeah down near the
water discussing for about an hour or so how to move them up to the trail because some rocks were
so slippery and not stable. Like big boulders. Yeah. So I hope that person's okay. I just hate
to see that. But we got down to the water's edge and peered down into it. Got a neat perspective.
The behind the scenes of Billy Goat walking down the cliff to get a picture.
Fortunately the rescue team is already here so I guess I feel a little bit better.
Really pretty view here. David found his way down. Well it's cold but you know the river
really well this is July. Because it's springtime in the summer the pollen had all it was dropped
on the water and the wind was kind of blowing it and to see that really pretty yellow green
pollen against that deep blue I mean the colors were just gorgeous. Gorgeous gorgeous. And the
pattern that it was making with the wind and creating a little bit of a current so to speak
because of the wind was really neat. It was changing and very very cool looking. I think
I took a couple thousand pictures just trying to capture it and the picture just couldn't capture
it. It was just it was amazing and then so yeah we did that and we took a little meadow hike
in a wet sort of wetlands and where there's supposed to be a lot of wildflowers and it was
just starting. Not quite. They weren't out yet but it was it was they were close. About probably
about a week to two weeks away from blooming. Yeah but you could tell it was going to be really
really pretty. Yeah and there was a lot of water on the trail. A lot of mosquitoes too. Oh man I
think we hiked that thing pretty fast. Just finished our hike down the crater the bottom
of the crater and now we're going to take an easy hike and maybe see some flowers on
the wildflower trail. This should be a wild time. Yeah but it was a beautiful area really
really nice. Yeah. Very peaceful but yeah the flowers weren't quite in bloom. No so
and then the views I mean not only the views into the crater but the views outside and beyond the
crater. You see a lot of mountains part of the you know part of the cascade mountains. Yeah.
And they were all really pretty. It was gorgeous. We went up to a flounce rock.
So we're gonna keep going down this road just for a little bit see what else we can find.
So
yeah the reservoir down below and then off in the distance a lot of the cascade mountain
range. Oh man that's huge. You should blow on it. Oh okay.
I guess I don't have enough hot air. Yeah that's not happening.
Oh I'm dizzy now. You need to work out more. Oh man oh I'm dizzy.
I think redwoods come from that. Possibly yeah. That thing's huge.
Yeah this is the view and look at all the wildflowers. Flowers!
Oh there's a marker. It's a lizard. Don't scare him away. Where is he? Right there on the rock.
Oh yeah wildlife.
Three miles down this dirt road David asked what does the piece of paper say
on the name of Top of the World and that viewpoint and I've read it wrong. It says
flounce not Florence. So it is and just to think I'm the navigator.
Saw the views from up there. Really pretty neat area. Good cell coverage up there. The best.
So we're on top of Flounce Rock. It's a beautiful view up here
and there's also great cell service. Can you hear me now? I mean you got a little bit of everything
on top of this mountain including great views. I think that's the best cell coverage we had
because we didn't have any down at the campground. Yeah exactly. So yeah so that that was a lot of
fun to see the views there too. I really enjoyed it. But overall what a neat area and surprising
there was as much to do there as there was. We really enjoyed it and had a great time.
