In this video I'm going to be visiting the Lofoten Islands
in Norway. We recently took the 2000 mile journey
from the UK to far north Sweden in my 20 year old Land Rover Discovery
which was an awesome experience. Stay along for the ride
as we travel to some of the most beautiful places in Scandinavia
but first the Lofoten Islands which is highly renowned for its beauty.
I was very intrigued to find out what all the hype was about.
After our journey to Karuna which is the most far north
town in Sweden, we stayed there for a little while, did the Far Eamon Classic event
which was insane and we are now on the road to the Lofoten Islands and we're
going to be driving and touring around here for the next
week or so until the bad weather comes and it's
absolutely beautiful. It's so dramatic the landscape is
insane and it's so quiet so I'm really really excited for the next
week here that we have traveling around the Lofoten
Islands. So the big draw for coming here to the
Lofoten Islands was mainly because of a few certain
things one being the scenery as you've already seen
the massive dramatic mountains here and also that we're right on the sea so
you've got the mountains, you've got the sea, you've got all these beautiful little
fishing villages dotted along the shores with all the
colorful red buildings and also there's a really cool viking
museum that we're hoping to have a look at
which has got all old viking artifacts and things like that.
So overall it's just really beautiful it's diverse it's got a bit of everything
and there's also a really cool cycle route that actually runs from
England to here up to Cape Scott which is the top of Norway
and it's a cycle route on the road but it runs through here
but yeah if you like the outdoors this is definitely a place to come and
explore. Lofoten is an archipelago in Norway which
is a group of multiple islands interconnected. It's known for
its dramatic landscape, beautiful fishing villages, deep fords
and pristine sandy beaches.
That was chilly.
Good morning. Today is the first morning in the Lofoten islands and it is a
beautiful day. Mountains surrounding us. Percy is ready
to go. Gonna check his levels this morning.
Usual routine, had a coffee, packed the tent away,
breakfast, washed up everything, try to sort it out in the back as best as we
can. I'm gonna check Percy's levels see how
they're doing as we've recently had a coolant problem
with a split hose but that's all been repaired now with good old black tape
and cable ties and I'm gonna check the level see how
they're doing and then we are going to be driving
over an hour to this beautiful spot where
I'm going to do a really cool hike up on the mountains.
Gonna see how that goes. It's a beautiful day though
and Percy's loving it. I'm loving it. The Lofoten islands are beautiful and I
am very very pleased with coming here. I'm
not disappointed in the slightest. So we've just been in
Ica, Ica Superstore to head on to the Lofoten
islands and we've got a severe problem. Coolant is completely empty. We've just
come back to quite a big puddle on the floor.
So yeah, this really wasn't what I was hoping for.
The whole coolant reservoir was empty due to a split hose that had been resting
on the steering column for however long. Was this the end of
our arctic trip as we knew it and how are we getting home? These were
the questions that were running through my mind.
So after a while of looking, Jake has found where the leak is coming from.
So this is the first major problem I've had with Percy since owning him.
It's a little bit worrying. It's gonna get sorted. It's just been
a long time coming I think. But yeah, what a simple mistake.
Out comes the coolant tank. I've got a better view of getting to this
pipe here. So the current situation is getting
another bottle of coolant because it literally did one
whole bottle in about 10 minutes. The leak is really severe.
Maybe try find a hose, a new hose replacement or even order one.
But that just means we've got to be stuck in one place waiting around for a
part. So I'm just going to see how this
repair goes with the tape and the cable ties.
Thanks to Jake's amazing mechanical skills, he figured out the problem
and fixed it and even taught me a few skills in the process. I say fixed it, it
was a very semi-permanent fixture of just cable
ties and black tape until we got home and were able to order the parts when we
got there instead of waiting around for it to be
shipped. Even the locals were kind enough to give us a helping hand.
Anyway, back to present day. The fixture held up perfectly and got us to the
We kept an eye on the temperature gauge and regular level checks.
I'm just so glad it didn't ruin the rest of our trip.
Right, so we're now setting off for Fredvang where we're going to be doing a
little bit of a mountain walk. Today is beautiful, we're going to have
some stunning views and hopefully it stays like this.
I know it's been a long time since you heard from me
I'm still kicking around here in Tennessee
I heard you got a new place, I heard you got a new job
I heard you got a haircut and it looks real nice
Are you ever lonely? Do you ever think of me?
I heard you got a new name, I hope it treats you right
And before you toss this letter away, there's something...
Good morning, yes it is another morning. We went to do
the hike yesterday that we had planned and it was basically
up a mountain and onto a beach. We're going to do a beach camp, that was the
plan. I was really looking forward to it but
unfortunately it's quite busy when it comes to
tourists here. All the trailhead car parks were full up
and it was really hard to get space and we thought sod it
let's not go to a beach that's going to look like
just a normal campsite. It's going to be so busy we thought.
So in the end we left and that was yesterday
and today we've looked at a different route that we're going to do
and I'm really looking forward to it. It's another mountain walk and
it's just going to be like Munro bagging really and just getting a nice walk
whilst we're in the Lofton Islands because we will be leaving it in the
next couple of days. So the weather's nice, I'm going to get a
coffee on, start the day like we mean to go on
and I'm looking forward to it, it's going to be ace.
Right so like I mentioned before we are heading
north now up through the Lofton Islands. We reach quite far south
of the Lofton Islands. Right at the bottom of the islands is a town called
A or however you pronounce it and we didn't quite get there but we got
just before there at Fredvang and we were going to walk to
this beautiful beach but obviously that didn't happen.
The coolant issue seems to be okay now thanks to good old black tape and cable
ties. Bodge jobbed it. Setup's really great. I think it does
make it really difficult with two of us in such a small vehicle
with so much kit because we've brought hiking backpacks, bike
packing bags, my bike, bushcraft stuff so it is quite
challenging at points trying to organise everything especially when it's
wet and it's raining. But it is beautiful, it's a lovely
country. It's so so lovely. I don't know what I
was expecting to see here. I don't think I had any expectations.
I've had such a beautiful year, seen some amazing places.
Obviously started off in Scotland in my Land Rover
when it was literally basic. It was literally just living out the
back of it. I didn't have all the stuff I have on now, all the
external stuff. Especially the roof tent, that's a
lifesaver. So I was inside a lot of the time
and it was hard especially with the snow and the cold.
So I was there and then I did the Badger Divide route.
That was early in the spring in Scotland. Then I've obviously been to Canada
and now here. So I've had such an amazing year, seen some beautiful places.
Obviously the trip's not done yet here. We want to head over to Sweden again.
I feel like Sweden had a real wild feel that the Lofton Islands here are missing.
So we wanted to head back there. I wasn't massively expecting much from
Lofoten. Although multiple people said it's a must visit.
I was a little let down with how touristy the place was.
Don't get me wrong, it's insanely beautiful.
But it wasn't wild if you know what I mean.
Hello you beautiful people. We have now set off on the hike to do the
mountain Memora. It is very very warm now.
There's a nice sort of trodden path with some rocks and stuff to walk over.
So it's a nice maintained path up to the mountain which is
always nice. Yeah looking forward to getting to the top. Hopefully having
some nice views over the Lofton Islands. That will be
insane if we're lucky. We are now in complete whiteout. It is
pretty crazy. And we're just making a scramble up
to the summit and then head ourselves back down.
And here we are. We made it to the summit of this beautiful mountain.
We can't see much views but you just see the sea
right down there shimmering through a little bit of an opening.
So we are all set up now as you can see. The roof tents up, the awning's out and
we have got sweet potato mash and these little
Norwegian meatball things that we bought yesterday
from one of the stores locally. It's the most beautiful park up.
It's down this little track and then into this sort of sand dune sort of area.
There is chance of the northern lights tonight. I've got an app on my phone and
alerts come on when there's a big chance of seeing the
northern lights in the area. We both had such a beautiful day and it
was a lovely mountain to climb. But I think we're going to stay here
for the next couple of nights because it is such a beautiful park up.
We did a few more days in Norway before heading back to Sweden.
The winter was creeping ever closer and the beautiful
autumn colours revealed themselves. Lofoten was gorgeous but I was truly
excited to explore these tracks that lead deep into the wilderness
in Sweden. So as you can probably now tell we have left
the Loften Islands and we are back in Sweden, far north Sweden.
We came back about two nights ago just for a change of pace, a change of scenery
and because we were really drawn to Sweden and Sweden's wilderness and
how I think it's more accepting to go sort of on gravel tracks away from the
main road and there's park ups and it's just more
set up for wild campers I feel like and for trucks and
things like that. So we've come back and we've been greeted by the northern
lights last night which was insane, amazing. We had it on our bucket list
to come and do that whilst we were here and then we've had this beautiful
sunset. The bugs are in full swing, they're rife.
Considering it was three degrees last night I'm surprised there are still bugs
out because the temperature has just plummeted
and the trees are starting to turn yellow all around us.
But anyway we've arrived at our park up, we're gonna get some food on, potentially
a fire and enjoy this beautiful evening that
we've been given. Well we have come to the end of another
video. I really really hope you enjoyed this
one. Thank you so so much for watching and thank you to all my
Patreons for making this possible who are listed in the description below.
Please stay tuned for the rest of the series, I will see you next time.
Take care.
