My name is...
I was like in the zone and I was so upset!
Um...
Can you repeat the question?
I stand by that still.
There are some answers I would change,
but I still stand by this one.
Oh, Vicky!
Welcome back!
This is part four of our recap series.
So Vicky, can you say your name,
where you're from,
and what do you do?
Should I start with 大家好 or no?
Okay.
Vicky,
Did you notice how your voice changed?
Yes!
Vicky!
Vicky!
They're so cute!
You're what, 20?
So cute.
21 now.
21 now, congrats!
Yeah, I was like,
oh, I have two points!
Oh, you wrote it down?
I checked the, like, outline.
Not outline, like, bullet point.
I didn't even know!
Wait, you're so prepared.
With my four guns.
So good.
But then I realized when I say this,
it's, like, more coming from my own perspective.
Because I saw some other interviews with other girls,
they were talking about how they are,
like, everyone,
like, I feel like they are focusing more on the whole pageant.
Yeah, the whole pageant,
they are treating...
No, no, no, say it, say it, say it.
Yeah, I feel like they are more,
like, they are considering for others.
They're saying, like, oh, we are a whole,
so every one of us coming together to make this pageant happen,
to make it good, to make it, yeah, unique.
But, like, now I'm reflecting back,
I'm more talking about, like, in my point of view,
I want to be, like, I want to step out of my comfort zone.
I want to improve myself.
Like, so that's the thing I think I can learn from others.
Yeah, like, to think for other people,
to think for this, the whole mission,
instead of thinking for yourself.
Yeah, I mean, I think that's a good point.
Like, whenever you're applying in the first place,
the application process itself
is all about detailing, like, your own journey, right?
And so, like, once you enter in pageant week
and you have, like, all of these experiences with the other girls,
I think it does give you that broader perspective
and see how the pieces fit in together.
Because we saw earlier with, like, the dance,
with all the composers, with the artists.
So I think that's a really good point about being there
and doing, like, your best for the community
and for the project that you're working towards, right?
That destination of, like, the beauty pageant, right?
Do you think that was something that you realized,
like, right after the pageant ended?
Or that's something that happened over time?
I think it was during the pageant, actually.
Because as we are doing, like, these interviews,
these, like, trainings, there are, like, reports coming out.
You remember?
There's, like, media articles, right? Yeah.
Because there's questions asking them, like,
why did you participate?
What's your understanding of beauty?
And then I read it and, like, wow, I should learn from them.
Instead of thinking, like, oh, I can improve on whatever.
Yeah, yeah.
Just having, like, your own head in a box.
It's, like, coming out.
And what's one word that can describe you as a person?
Personality?
Or...
Oh, just, like, one word that can describe you.
That's a good question.
I never thought about that.
That's a good question!
You weren't prepared for this one, right?
Nope.
I don't have one word to describe me.
I don't have! I don't have!
I think that's accurate, though.
I think that's accurate.
Because you travel so much for dance, right?
Yeah, we do.
What was...
Like, our little circus.
Yeah, you travel, like, every single weekend or something?
Like...
Especially in the spring.
If it's busy, like, every two weeks or so, on average, yeah.
We went to, like, recently we went to Philadelphia.
Not the one, but, like, the up there, Philadelphia, New York.
If you're in New York, come watch Vicky perform.
Yes.
It's something else entirely, really.
Her and her little circus.
Yes.
Yeah, so I see why you say you're more active after joining dance.
Because before, you were more reserved.
Yeah.
As a student, you were more, like, calm, quiet, reserved.
And I think especially in China.
Because there's one thing we, um, this, like, the past April,
so we went to Philadelphia to give out a, like, a workshop plus performance.
And then there were actually, like, little kids, like, elementary school kids.
And then we were teaching them some, like, classical Chinese dance movements,
some ethnical dance movements.
Yeah, and then one thing I noticed, like, when I'm...
Because I'm the presenter, right?
When I'm asking them, like, are you guys ready?
Or, um, do you know the question of this?
Do you know the answer of this question?
And they were, like, oh, they were, like...
So excited.
Yeah, so excited, so proactive.
But when you ask them to answer your question, they don't actually know.
They're, like, um, uh...
They're just, like...
Yeah, yeah, they will say that.
They were just excited to participate.
They were happy to be there.
Yeah, but from that, I fell back to my childhood.
Like, if I don't know the answer, or I'm not...
Or even I know the answer, but I'm not sure about it,
I won't be there to, you know, to raise my hand.
Oh, and participate like those kids did.
In the shell.
Yeah, it's more like that.
Yeah, so it's really give me...
I think it's also about the education of Eastern and Western.
Yeah, I feel like Western culture is more open, heart on the sleeve, kind of.
Yeah, like, encourage students.
Yeah, the culture is definitely different.
Yeah, so dance made you break out of your little shell.
I guess.
And now you're reborn.
Yeah.
It's so cute.
What would that mean?
What are you eating?
It's so cute.
So active.
I can't.
Tell me when this is done.
